    Nick Foles anybody??

Under contract with the Eagles. Too valuable as a backup to trade away. If Philly wins the SB, not a chance.

think he shows at camp for 4M with 3M roster bonus? That's McCown money..

  • Talk on the radio this morning about some QBs that may be trade bait:

Andy Dalton.....If McCarron isn't granted Free Agency....it may be open competition for starter in Cinci....to the point that the Kitties may want to trade Dalton.

Brian Hoyer....while expected to continue to back up Brady....he is not in any long term plans...and could be traded.

Landry Jones.....the Pitts may consider Josh Dobbs and their new backup QB behind BR, making Jones expendable.

    Foles.  Discussed above....not likely.

Ryan Tannehill.   It is possible that the Dolphins may be past him.   They may me in the market for Cousins.

And, oh, hey....a couple of names still out there perhaps:

    1.  Tyrod Taylor.    Bills do not see a future with him.  Not sure of his status...is a FA or not.  If yes....signing him could be considered. If not....could be tradeable.

    2.  Colin Kaepernik.   If we are listing FA QBs....he is on the list  (with about as good a track record as anyone.)  Signing him would take the heat off Hue Jackson....because everyone would have something else to talk about other than his suckage.

    3.  Like the Vikings...it is possible that all 3 of the Denver QBs could be in play:  Osweiler...though they may keep him as a veteran backup. Siemian. Clearly not seen as the QBOTF for them.   Same for Paxton Lynch. (not that the Browns would or should have any interest in him.  We have our own version of him)

Some more info here:  Tony Grossi's QB Tracker:

  • Taylor is under contract thru 2018 with $8,5mm in dead money... so the Bills will be motivated sellers if they are moving on.

Hoyer is under contract thru 2019 at a bargain price. Odds are they draft a kid Day 2. I doubt the Pats move Hoyer until their kid proves himself and that's not likely to be this year.

Wasn't sure about Taylor.  I know that Hoyer was signed...which is why I said they could be trade bait.

On the other hand....Buffalo appears clearly done with Taylor.  Though unlikely...I suppose they could just cut him.    Teams have cut QBs to whom they owed a lot more than the figure you mention.   (can you say Browns/B.O.)

Though...I suspect they could get some....even if meager, trade value out of Taylor.

  • Thus the term "motivated sellers."

Best job in the world now, agent for any good or nearly good NFL quarterback with any experience at all......even better than selling used cars! 😎

  • I think it’s obvious we make a deal with the Pats to get Brian Hoyer.

My choice ALL ALONG...contact the Jets and offer a 5th or 6th rounder for Josh McCown! He is a great option AND your QB coach when he retires!!!

    GO BROWNS!!!

Except...per the Walter Football link....he is a free agent...and it would not cost any draft picks.   You just sign him.

Is Walter wrong...or did he leave something out?

Why would the agent's job be better than the QBs job.  Agents only get 10-15% or so.  The QB keeps the rest.

Best job...besides being a left hand relief pitcher, may be backup QB.   Hold the clipboard, no risk of injury....get a few million bucks.   Not bad work if you can get it.

  • I will say this repeatedly but if you take Cousins and surround him with the talent we can secure with cap and picks you have a playoff team IMMEDIATELY. I cannot fathom how anyone cannot see that. Cousins, Gordon, J. Landry, Njoku, S. Barkley and Duke is F'ing magic waiting to happen.

Having looked closer at him.....It would not bother me to have him on this team....

But...with what he wants....even though the Browns have a lot of money to spend....I think it possible that you could get yourself into a Joe Flacco situation....where you have so much money wrapped up in your QB...that you cannot afford to field a decent team around him.

Also...again...given "Cousins situation....where HE controls where he goes....I am still certain that he will want to go to a team far more "ready" to contend than the Browns seem to be.

While you are wishing for schidt that will never happen, why not put in a request for a new Breitling Chrono 44 for yourself. Cousins will voluntariyl have his nuts cut off before he would play in Cleveland. Don't be an idiot, dude. Nobody of any veteran skill level is coming to Cleveland.

Do you bother to read what you respond to Bludcart?    I said that he ain't coming here...for the reason that he wants to win now.

There is no reason we can't convince Cousins he can come here and win now. You tell him you have our O line to protect you and Gordon, J Landry, Saquon Barkley, Duke and Njoku as weapons and BAM ?. That's 2 free agents signings and an entire draft to build a defense to support a top 5 O. Easy peezy we just need to get that Sheet done.

He doesn't really have the beat of options. My guess is Denver if they have the $$$. Otherwise, he's picking amongst teams that need him to be the "savior"

He's about as good at rum as he is at football. I'll attest Ag's Diplomatico Riserva is better.  $38 retail- if you can find it in Ohio.

LOL, you good at hypnosis? When Smith laughed at 1-31? The only reason Cousins would even give that a second thought is if we offer him $20 million more guaranteed than the next highest bidder- and even that might not be enough  Captain Kirk is guiding the Starship, and he's already got enough loot to be set for life.

  • Actually, Cousins had a better statistical season in 2016 as opposed to 2017.  He WAS in the Top 5 in a number of statistical categories in 2016:

And in 2015...he was actually a bit worse statistically then than he was in 2017.   He only occasionally appeared in the Top Ten of stats.  (major exception...he did lead the league in pass completion Pct.....about his only Top 5 appearance:

Don't overthink the Cousins thing.  Washington didn't want to commit to him long term; before they signed Alex Smith to a 94 million $ contract (71 million of it guaranteed). What do the Cousins fans know that that the team that drafted him couldn't possibly understand?

His team's record did NOT improve each of the last 3 years - it got worse each year regardless of the countless excuses I keep reading.   If people thought he didn't have anyone to throw to in Washington - have they even SEEN our WR Corps?

The ONLY thing that's going to reward this guy is a disappointing supply of veteran QBs for the demand.   Let the Buck Tooth Basssterd in Denver sign him to compete with his Paxton Lynch and Brock Osweiler.

Not worth the $ or the cap space., even for a team so desperate for a competent QB to bridge a rookie.

Yes, I personally am not one that is in the "bring in Cousins" corner.      I see the Browns future QB as having to come via the draft.....its just that I don't have a better for feeling for any of the potential draftees than I do for Cousins.   Nevertheless...as the thread title says....we are looking for a potential Bridge guy.

And I see those top candidates as being   Bradford,  McCown, or Fitzpatrick.

  • I could not let this thread go any further without putting the title song on here:

  • Interestingly....the lyrics to the song  have considerable relevance to the subject at hand:

When you're weary, feeling small  (Browns fans certainly)
When tears are in your eyes, I'll dry them all (all)
I'm on your side, oh, when times get rough  (who is having a rougher time?)
And friends just can't be found  (who is befriending the Browns?  no one)
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will lay me down
(we all agree that this "Bridge QB" must sacrifice himself for the greater good of the Browns, fair to say?)
    When you're down and out
    When you're on the street
    When evening falls so hard
(fits Browns fans to a T)
    I will comfort you (ooo)
I'll take your part, oh, when darkness comes
(just what we need:  comfort...and someone to take our side in these dark times)
    And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
    I will lay me down
