The Best Bargain Basement QB Picks

Heath Shuler didn't make the list? David Carr had a much better career IMO. He even lost to Nancy Pelosi, to add insult to injury.

I only went back to the year 2000 Heath Shuler was before that but you're welcome to go back even further say to like 1950 if you wantI only went back to the year 2000 Heath Shuler was before that but you're welcome to go back even further say to like 1950 if you want

This is just as likely to be a Luke Falk or a Mike white thread. Or Nick Stevens or some other lower rated quarterback that actually becomes very productive in his career

Yep. Rudolph thread

That's a double negative, right? So it's sufficient?

Didn't pay attention to the parameters....my bad.

I'm not going to elaborate on names but since 2000, there have been 41 QBs drafted in the first round. Around 14 outright busts, 9 that underperformed (quality backups to spot starters), 10 that were quality starters, and 8 outright studs. Eli, Rodgers, Ryan, BR, Rivers....
So league wide, better than 50\50 odds you're not going to draft an outright bum qb in the first round. The Browns hit the trifecta with Quinn, Weeden, and Manziel.
-
This guy could wind up being one of the steals in the draft. I hadn't seen much of him until recently, and he's damn fun to watch. He makes plenty of big time throws and is a next level type of athlete.

I don't know about no double negative.
I just know that you never seem to say anything on here above the intelligence level of third grader. Perhaps you could try to work to improve on that...if you are able.

But it is also 50/50 that you ARE going to draft an outright bum in the first round. But yes...the Browns skew the average.

I said the odds are better than 50% you're not going to draft an outright bum qb in the first round.
Since I have the time, and you want to argue- 2000 on first round qbs- Da Bums: Dave Carr (injury bust), Joey Harrington, JP Losman, Vince Young, Matt Leinart, Jamarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, Tim Tebow (should never have been drafted in the 1st), Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, Chris Ponder, (note the previous three may still be on a roster somewhere, I'm not gonna look) Griffin (partial injury bust), Brandon We-done, Johnny Manziel, Paxton Lynch (pending bust). That's 15\41.
Then you have guys who started for a few years, or wound up as quality backups- that isn't a total bust in my mind. Chad Pennington, Brian Leftwich, Jason Campbell, Jay Cutler, Mark Sanchez, Josh Freeman, Sam Bradford (would be in the next tier if he could stay healthy), Ryan Tannehill, EJ Manuel (if you want to say bust there, OK). 9\41
So that's 58% that either busted, or under performed. Only 36% flat-out busts though. (about the historical rate of fist round busts, all positions)
Now- the guys that earn "franchise QB" in my book: Michael Vick, Carson Palmer, Eli Manning, Phillip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger, Alex Smith, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Matt Stafford, Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, Blake Bortels (iffy), Jamis Winston, Marcus Marriotta, Jared Goff, Carson Wentz. too early to say on 2017. 17\41 = 41%
So the odds of getting a stud- or at least a quality backup QB in the first round are historically better than flipping a coin.

Boo Fagley says that both Vick and Winston are busts. I don't agree with that.
So let me revise my comment: Your chances seem better than 50/50 to get an underachiever in round one. Is that better language?
Of course, past round one....you could say that there is no such thing as "underachievement" because no QB taken past round one should be considered to be of "franchise QB" status.
Fair to say?

I'm tired of basement bargain QB's or any position.. I want the real McCoy.. Not to be confused with McFry!

Hell... the way the Browns draft.... I’ll pay the Nordstrom price for Walmart value.... it’s better than when we pay Nordstrom price and get the Kmart blue light special bull sh it.

Hoping for Darnold/Rosen #1 and Luke Faulk, Kyle Lauletta or Mike White in the 4th round to go with Tyrod Taylor. ?

I'm not sure any of those guys will be there in the 4th round. There are a lot of teams with aging and/or injury prone QBs who may be shopping that 2nd tier of QBs, & the guys you mentioned have value.

Absolutely. Teams like the Chargers, Saints, Steelers, Patriots, Giants....if they don't take someone with #2, Redskins, maybe even Green Bay. A couple of these may even tap somebody in the first round.
Don't be surprised if 6 QBs are taken in round one...plus a couple more in round 2.

Which is why we need to draft one at 1 and 4.

Here, in one person's opinion (mine) are the best "Bargain Basement" draft picks of QBs in the 2000s. Note: ergo...you will see like only 1 first round pick among this bunch. These QBs status as good bargain fines are based on their productivity...and other factors as NFL QBs:
1. Tom Brady. Pick #199 The Mother of All Bargain Basement QBs (unless you count Bart Starr at pick #200. Lets call Starr the father and Brady the Mother)
2. Drew Brees. Pick #32 (which at the time was top of round 2). Of 9 5000 yard seasons ever in the NFL...Brees has 5 of them.
3. Aaron Rodgers Pick #24. The only first round pick here....but he may be the best playing...so #24 is a real bargain
4. Russell Wilson #75. Two Super Bowl appearances....one win. Pretty good for a 3rd round pick.
5. Andy Dalton #35. While you may not put a lot of faith in him....he did lead his team to 4 straight playoff spots.
6. Matt Schaub #90. Was a good, solid starter for a couple of teams. Good for a cusp 3rd/4th rounder
7. Ryan Fitzpatrick #250. He was the primary starting QB for a season for 5 different teams in his career..8 years overall. For a #250 pick? Incredible actually
8. Marc Bulger #168. Again....such a low draft pick. Primary starting QB for the Rams for 8 years.
9. Matt Cassell. #230. Again...for that low of a pick....a primary starter for 5 years for different teams, plus a solid backup.
10. Kirk Cousins #102. Has produced well for 4th rounder....and could improve mightily even yet.
11. Tyrod Taylor #180. Again...such a low pick. Stuck around as a backup in B-more 4 years, before being primary starter for Bills for 3...and now Browns
12. Derek Carr #36 Second rounder...in theory could be poised to take over the league
13. Dak Prescott. #135 Again, early days for him...but his production is excellent after only 2 years.....another who could clearly climb the list.
14. Nick Foles #88. Third rounder. Defending Super Bowl Champion starting QB. What else needs to be said?
15. Derek Anderson #213. Yes...that Derek Anderson. For a #213 pick can be said to have done as well as should be expected. 12 years in the league....one good year with the Browns as starter.

"We"?
You are a Steelers fan who is giving up the NFL for the XFL. You are only here because you weren't hugged enough as a child and desperately crave attention. Since you have no redeemable traits, you resort to trying to garner attention in negative ways. By the looks of you in your photos, it appears you've also tried to fill this hole in your life with fatty foods. So sad.
