Fun article on “under the radar” Browns
-
You read that...wow...the Browns are really going to shock the NFL this year.
No weaknesses (ok, maybe at LT ?), but serious talent and depth all around.
except LT.
dammit.
-
Meanwhile, Reggie Bush says the Browns just have to go at least 9-7.
that would rock.
PLAYOFFS. BROWNS.
Mike Trout says the Browns will win more games than the Bears.
-
Here we go again.
Talent has not been the Browns reason for going 1- 31 over 2 years. The reasons for 1 - 31, as far as I can see have not even been talked about, let alone been addressed and put into a plan of action.
1) This organization is infected with a total lack of discipline, It has continued to manifest itself on the field in terms of lack of concentration, execution, and intensity.
Corey Coleman dropping a simple pass that would have enabled history to log another Browns W over the Steelers has nothing to do with talent. This guy is 1st round draft pick. Missed tackles, penalties, not knowing the plays, missed blocks, #1 draft picks deciding to miss a few games with self-admission into concussion protocol. Dumb clock management.
Without Hue Jackson even addressing this, are you people batshhit crazy talking playoffs?
2) Our offense is dink-and-dump and the team philosophy is to be predictable and allow defenses a high probability of knowing what we are doing. 2nd and 2? Play action and deep quick pass to burn the over-pursuit? Nope, slow developing run play, 6-yard loss and 3'd and 8. This is not something an offensive coordinator can change unless the HC undoes his handcuffs. To my mind, Hue Jackson does not like explosive, unpredictable offense. He likes a QB to take a quick look downfield and then run. Sorry, but we have the 3d Black Tarkenton in a row, and a QB in the waiting who is not exactly a Bradshaw/Elway, Manning prototype.
There isn't enough talent in the world to overcome positive yardage being called back, mistakes, dropped balls, fumbles and an unimaginative, predictable offense.
The biggest problems the Browns have are still intact, and they aren't about talent.

1-31 is a bigger hole to climb out of, even managed with a HOF LT..Re-Re boot act 2,but this time with more scattered veterans that Sashi lost last boot should help. Drafted players from 2016 on up must show up on game days. #1.) Lack of cohesion on field..6 new starters on Offense-CB Position complete overhaul. Peppers? no telling what we get..#2.) Easy..Hue Jackson=Maximize players ability//Manage Game Situations..#3.) Both starting OT's..#4.) Redzone Defense=Browns finished LAST in keeping teams out of endzone in redzone(67.4% turned into TD's) #5.) Offense in Redzone= Browns ranked 25th (48% TD's)- but Kizer led the nfl in redzone turnovers-gave away nearly 10% of redzone snaps.NOT possessions. but SNAPS.. #5 is the most important position on the field. Tyrod should bring that minus to a plus or just a equal to league standard..The other 4? luck, injury is always a factor, but good things need to start preseason Game 1

I hope you are right, but I believe in Cleveland you will see a different tierod. I think with our non-threatening offense he will face more pressure than he ever imagined or experienced. I think his run-first instincts will take over and I think he will get injured pretty early on. We shall see.

a) were not Pitt.. but Haley should not fall far from 20th'ish of the pack of OC's in the league. Been top 15 since 2012..Haley's talent just has to be coachable talent that executes assignments. b) Here's Tyrod's injury history https://www.sportsinjurypredictor.com/player/tyrod-taylor/4785 care to take a look at Ben's?(click near bottom) Taylor has played 15 games/season for 3 straight seasons..has the Bills OL ever been famous for anything? maybe it's just our turn that the sky stops falling in C-town..Jaguars had no big injuries last season. Was a big part of their successful season carrying Bortles who sucks, compared to Tyrod Taylor..Taylor just won't have the advantage of practicing against that Jags D..

https://brownswire.usatoday.com/2018/06/26/browns-proved-great-run-defense-doesnt-equal-wins/
The 2017 Cleveland Browns had more tackles for loss or no gain on run defense than any other team in the 21st century.
The 2017 Cleveland Browns did not win a single game.
Both of those statements are true:
************************************************
So, the way I see it, saw it... the Browns had qb troubles. as in, they didn't have a good one. And their wr crew was seriously lacking. Coleman lost one game. He didn't lose the entire season.
The major other problem, was that the Browns kicked rears on run defense. Again and again and again, most every game? - the Browns run defense would stop them, only to have the opposing offense easily throw for a first down. Sure, they weren't the worst secondary - but most other teams had a better passing game.
What team was it, that we had 3rd or 4th and about 30 yrds...and they COMPLETED the conversion?
So the Browns went to revamp their qb, wr, and db situation. Simple as that - they will be a very, very different team this year.
Throw last season out - they will be winning this year.
-
in this goal line stand - they actually stopped a pass attempt. But in the rest of the field, the secondary was
toast all too often. The Browns could stop the run really well.
But, the Browns were last in...defending in the red zone.

in NFL team rankings...
NFL Team Opponent Red Zone Scoring Percentage (TD only)
https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-red-zone-scoring-pct
The Browns were last. ???
32 Cleveland 67.39% I won't be surprised if the Browns go from last to top ten next year.

While all the things you say cal are perfectly accurate you missed probably our worst area of deficiency: our playcalling and head coaching. Hopefully our playcalling will improve as much as we hope our defense of back and are wide receivers and our running game will improve

Most gm's for a day here wanted alex smith. that was my phone call too. maybe Alex would like dorseys weapons now vs Skins? With alex already off the board Bills traded Tyrod before they let him walk after this season. 70% of bills fans don't like the move but 16M in Tyrod beats the hell out of 16M for Brock Arss'oiler..Bills had offers https://buffalonews.com/2018/03/28/browns-coach-bills-had-multiple-offers-for-tyrod-taylor/

this is also true, but better talent, to a degree, can make play calling far easier.

An OL has very little to do with how good a QB is. All OLmen are lardasses, mostly equal in ability. The difference in OL is not in talent of player but in the ability of the line to play in synch.. It is the offensive weapons and play calling that determines how successful a QB will be, not forgetting his own skills, of course.
Tie Rod's history has nothing to do with the future. Unless something dramatically changes with our play calling and risk taking, Tie Rod will have to run a lot, and he will get crippled, like RG Tarkenton 3.

The irony of having a solid team except for LT isn't lost on me, and it doesn't seem fair that Joe Thomas doesn't get to experience it. Not after the last 2 years.
I think we win 4 games outright. Any further victories will come down to pulling out games in the last 5 minutes of the 4th. Something we haven't done in years, and something we need to figure out if ever we're going to make real noise.

You are right about an offensive line having to play in synch. That is very important for sure....however, if you have an outstanding DE or LB matched up one on one on a bad LT who is getting de-pantsed regularly, no talented QB or in synch OL is going to cover up for that.

Dallas has 5 first round picks on the OL. They can't do schidt without Elltion. OL men are a dime a dozen. Lardassses.
