Fun article on “under the radar” Browns

The Browns Board
34 10 980 1
  • in this goal line stand - they actually stopped a pass attempt. But in the rest of the field, the secondary was

toast all too often. The Browns could stop the run really well.

But, the Browns were last in...defending in the red zone.

  • in NFL team rankings...

NFL Team Opponent Red Zone Scoring Percentage (TD only)

    https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-red-zone-scoring-pct

    The Browns were last. ???

    32 Cleveland 67.39%

I won't be surprised if the Browns go from last to top ten next year.

  •  While all the things you say cal are perfectly accurate you missed probably our worst area of deficiency: our playcalling and head coaching. Hopefully our playcalling will improve as much as we hope our defense of back and are wide receivers and our running game will improve

Was a big part of their successful season carrying Bortles who sucks, compared to Tyrod Taylor..Taylor just won't have the advantage of practicing against that Jags D..

Most gm's for a day here wanted alex smith. that was my phone call too. maybe Alex would like dorseys weapons now vs Skins? With alex already off the board Bills traded Tyrod before they let him walk after this season. 70% of bills fans don't like the move but 16M in Tyrod beats the hell out of 16M for Brock Arss'oiler..Bills had offers https://buffalonews.com/2018/03/28/browns-coach-bills-had-multiple-offers-for-tyrod-taylor/

  • You read that...wow...the Browns are really going to shock the NFL this year.

No weaknesses (ok, maybe at LT ?), but serious talent and depth all around.

    except LT.

    dammit.

this is also true, but better talent, to a degree, can make play calling far easier.

An OL has very little to do with how good a QB is. All OLmen are lardasses, mostly equal in ability. The difference in OL is not in talent of player but in the ability of the line to play in synch.. It is the offensive weapons and play calling that determines how successful a QB will be, not forgetting his own skills, of course.

Tie Rod's history has nothing to do with the future. Unless something dramatically changes with our play calling and risk taking, Tie Rod will have to run a lot, and he will get crippled, like RG Tarkenton 3.

They did need a primary blocking TE as Devalve and Njoku seem to be more the pass catching variety. Telfer got the axe so Fells fills those shoes.

The irony of having a solid team except for LT isn't lost on me, and it doesn't seem fair that Joe Thomas doesn't get to experience it. Not after the last 2 years.

I think we win 4 games outright. Any further victories will come down to pulling out games in the last 5 minutes of the 4th. Something we haven't done in years, and something we need to figure out if ever we're going to make real noise.

You are right about an offensive line having to play in synch. That is very important for sure....however, if you have an outstanding DE or LB matched up one on one on a bad LT who is getting de-pantsed regularly, no talented QB or in synch OL is going to cover up for that.

Dallas has 5 first round picks on the OL. They can't do schidt without Elltion. OL men are a dime a dozen. Lardassses.

Not at all. Skill players make the OL. Next you are going to tell me that it was the fantastic Lions OL that allowed Snaders to do so well. Dude, offensive linemen are the least talented fahkers in all of pro sports. BOTH the Steelers and Patriots won a SB with a walk on OL who never played pro ball before. OL blow.

  • So you are saying if we had an o line with the talent of cam erving at every position at the line we would be okay?

Well then...why don't you take a poll of every QB and every RB in the NFL and ask them if they think they can do it all by themselves without much help from their OLs.   Every single one of them roll on the floor laughing out loud at your suggestion.

That was then....this is now.   Browns NOW may in fact have some "lethal weapons" on offense.  Hopefully they do. Landry, Gordon for a full year, hopefully CoCo will improve (not holding breath), Njoku has the innate talent to be one of the best pass catching TEs..he just has to show it.  Duke out of the Backfield,  big back duo of Hyde/Chubb. And hopefully a QB that is not a turnover machine.

On paper I think the Browns appear to have some fire power.    But then, the OL must perform. Because while you are right....a lack of offensive weapons can make an offensive line look like crap.....a crappy offensive line can make good offensive weapons look like crap..and we do have some big questions on OL....mainly the two tackle.

And now with Haley...and not Hue calling the offensive plays, hopefully you will see more of that originality you are looking for.
