  • “Browns dysfunction under Haslam detailed” espn bottom line ?

  • I just finished the article and must compliment the many members of this board who’ve been saying this for years. I joined the Browns Board after the Justin Gilbert-Manziel draft fiasco & have learned many things from you guys.

Ive lived in Florida the last 19 years & found this Board to be very enlightening for a diehard (63yr old female) Browns fan.

Thanks and Happy New Year to all of you!

  • The Cleveland Browns reportedly passed on quarterback Teddy Twatwater in the 2014 NFL draft in part because owner Jimmy Haslam wasn't happy with a handshake they shared.

On Thursday, Seth Wickersham of ESPN.com reported the Browns "soured" on Bridgewater after a workout and interview dinner when Haslam told team executives the handshake "rubbed [him] the wrong way."

Cleveland selected Johnny Manziel with the 22nd overall pick in 2014. The Minnesota Vikings made a trade with the Seattle Seahawks to acquire selection No. 32 to grab Bridgewater.

While Manziel flamed out because of lackluster on-field production and a series of off-field incidents, Bridgewater was a top contender for the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award in 2014 and earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2015 for the Viking

Although the University of Louisville product suffered a serious leg injury in August 2016 that derailed his promising career, he'll arguably be the top quarterback available on this year's free-agent market.

In the bigger picture, the reported decision to pass on Bridgewater highlights the type of decision-making errors that have caused the Browns to miss the playoffs every year since 2003.

They may have finally found their franchise quarterback in Baker Mayfield, which should help get the Browns moving back in the right direction.

The rest of the roster is still in need of serious upgrades, however, and it's been a long time since Cleveland showed a propensity for filling those voids properly.

Bridgewater does seem like a limp fish.    Let's put it this way...in that draft....while the choice of JMZ was bad....I find no particular fault in them passing on Bridgewater.

Passing up Aaron Donald in favor of Justin Gilbert....now THAT is a suckass move.   And instead of Manziel they could have had Dee Ford or Demarcus Lawrence....or if they were going QB I would rather have had Carr than the Twat.

  • It just proves Jimmy Haslem is NOT a good owner. If he stays out of the football part. He could change that. But we will have to wait and see

  • Also. It seems to me that Jimmy talks to too many people.

Just right the checks and let the football people do the work

  • Hue to Haslam .....Get the hell out of my office

Haslam should of replied ..... Get the hell out of my facility you bald short sighted under bus throwing piece of a shit coach that you are ... and your head looks like a whopper candy

  • Not for nuthin' but we've been aware of how meddling and lousy an owner Haslam has been since he took over.

Yes, the article points out some nuggets that we weren't aware of, but in general, we knew the story.

Of course, we have some of the 'rose colored glasses' people who would bash you for saying anything negative, but ya just ignore them....if ya can.

I think being fair and negative is just fine.   Its when it seems totally unfair and just trolling that it rubs a lot of people the wrong way.   For me, it also depends on who is posting the "negative opinion".

  • Media scribbling.....PFFFFT. I could give a crap!

To quote an old song...."...but that was yesterday, and yesterday's gone" (that's even assuming his stuff is accurate & not embellished).

  • Of course we have to factor in that this is just an article that may just be mostly hearsay or guesswork

I mean at lot of it would have been easy to guess at the time with just a few little nuggets in

Not saying it’s fake just that this is just someone view of how things went down

Well said & who the hell is Seth Wickersham anyway? Just another writer I never heard of.

..and this Jimmy "the problem" Haslam guy.....is he the one who hired John Dorsey?

To others.....It's time to let the past go folks. Things are looking positive, so let's please move on.

  • As many on this board suspected, Haslam has been the driving force behind the last 6 years of Suck. The Hue Jackson Debacle was brought to you exclusively by Jimmy Haslam. As a Browns fan, this article left me feeling sick. What a shitshow.

Haslam told the front office he was pleased with the drafts and free agency but also seemed torn, wanting a heavyweight football name at the helm. He had gone from a nontraditional hire in Banner to a lifelong scout in Farmer and then swung back to an unorthodox pick in Brown. Now he wanted to swing the other way. On Dec. 7, Haslam entered Brown's office and fired him. According to people who saw him afterward, Haslam looked frayed when he exited the meeting, knowing he'd gone back on his word to Brown. Friends around the league urged Haslam to start over clean and fire Jackson too, but he refused. Dorsey was hired as GM that same day. The Browns were starting over again, with another arranged marriage between coach and GM.

"We just don't know what we are doing," Dee said in the office around that time, according to multiple sources in the building, a refrain they had heard her utter before but that she denied through a team spokesman. "If we'd known how hard it would be, we never would have bought the team."

Who knew running an NFL franchise was so complicated? Fucking hell.

Obviously, the future success of the Browns hinges on Jimmy suppressing every instinct he has and getting out of the way and letting the football guys make football decisions. But the last couple of paragraphs of the article don't instill me with high hopes of that happening.

We could see that Dee.  What kind of looney owners fire 2 head coaches in one Calendar year?   And YEARS ago Joe Banner confided that ALL outlets, scouts, consultants, front office people said to NOT draft Manziel.  So he fired Banner and drafted Johnny.  Haslam is a marketing guy and he wanted the Johnny Football Glitz.

At least NOW, he has stepped out of the way.  And I'll give him credit for the Dorsey hire and stepping aside to let Dorsey do the drafting, coaching hire, etc.

...oh, and Dee...there's still time to sell the team.

  • Someone please tell me this didn't actually happen 😆

"Marketing executives wanted employees to see how fans were engaging with the Browns on social media, so they projected the Browns feed onto a giant wall at the facility. It was like broadcasting talk radio over the entire building, and one day in particular, it was worse than that. One of the marketing staffers entered a search for #dp — for Dawg Pound. The problem was, that hashtag carried a few different meanings, one of which triggered an array of porn to be broadcast onto a wall for the entire office to see for more than 20 minutes, until a tech employee killed the feed."

    20 minutes eh? 😆

According to Justin Fox, it wasn't 20 minutes.   It was an oversight and was corrected promptly once word got to the techey people.        lol

Can you imagine being in the office.  "Hey Bud, should we report this?   -  Report what?"    🙂

If I recall correctly he is the same guy who wrote the expose on the New England Patriots talking about dysfunction and turmoil between Brady and Kraft and Bill Belichick. It seemed to work out fine for them as they are in the Super Bowl so maybe that's a sign of things to come for us.

I just looked it up he is the same guy he wrote an article on January 4th 2018 about the downfall of the Patriots in the turmoil between craft and Bill. So if all things follow suit we'll be in the Super Bowl next year

EXACTLY! Just another media guy sensationalizing everything he can. What amazes me is the number of people who read media bullcrap every year yet quote the same idiots again the next year. LOL

  • wtf..i had to bail.. "after F'hue learns we traded a 34 year old 'punter' for a 24 year old 'punter' & received a 4th rounder" Am telling Hue to gtf out of my office 'than' Haslam..This reads like a 4/5 way campfire circle jerk with all recent & former espn employees chiming in...Grossi,Banner,Farmer & Lombardi maybe sprinkles from even Mangini..back to plugging my nose while finishing this non breaking news..   Edit--I made it😉 to the best part, The End.. Dorsey privately told associate "I flexed my 'Ballsack Judge' muscles & got what I wanted" than cranked on some Pink Floyd after tearing down Jimmy's Wall..

  • We better hope that Dorsey and Co. is the long-term answer, because this has painted a picture that his (what seems successful) hiring was most likely an accident. I'll give the Haslams credit enough that they've actually allowed someone to create an honest to dog football organization, where there is a legit chain of command, but I shudder at the idea of something causing a rift between Dorsey and Haslam.

  • We are hoping that the great filter is behind us and that Jimmy will let Dorsey do his thing.  Even when a draft pick or two doesn't work out (as is the case for every GM).

...I mean, we had Kyle Shannahan tell the Browns that he wasn't gonna finish out his contract and that he was getting out-a-here.  Dysfunction to the max.   (a GM texting the sidelines about play calling and player involvement during a game....nobody knew their 'place' in the organization.  Phucking Embarrassing!)  Of course, Kosar told us early on in Haslam's ownership that the team's problems start at the very top.

Again, perhaps as Dee said, they've realized that they don't know what they're doing so they're going to let the pros do the heaving lifting from now on.

Today, on Bull & Fox, Dorsey said that he 'Flexed his muscle and got his man' regarding hiring Kitchens.  That's what we need!  Dorsey calling the football shots.  Now, Dorsey is on a limb with picking Freddie....because obviously it wasn't unanimous....but he said that in listening to Freddie and his views of playing the game, the type of players he wants, on what matters, he found that they both have the same views & goals.  -  Dorsey was asked about the hiring of coordinators and coaches and how much he had to do with Freddie's choices and he said that they worked as a team in the sense that he (Dorsey) helped with a couple of suggestions, "You might want to talk to 'this' guy or  this other guy."     Dorsey said that he thought Freddie put together a great staff (of course he'd say that anyway).  But I DO agree that he's got some notable people around him to help him learn what he doesn't know about being a HC.

I hope Freddie is a good coach.  And I hope Baker is a good QB going forward.  Because I want the team to be successful.  So that Dorsey can keep calling the shots and keep us Successful.
