    .... Oh wait

You really shouldn't point to bad behavior to justify bad behavior.

Two wrongs don't make a right? What point are you making? I think we agree all those things were wrong and you agree that young people being exposed to the worst kind of porn is comparable to children in the past being exposed to public hangings or witch burning. All wrong...right?

  • Well we definitely are the only country with video games...

This. These games are available everywhere yet we appear to be the only country regularly producing little psychos who want to off a bunch of people they don't know.

You were trying to make the point that things are worse now (breakdown of family or whatever) because of violence, porn, whatever.

I'm saying kids have been exposed to violence forever. Probably a hell of a lot worse in the past.

Or at the very least we're the only country easily giving these little psychos the means to carry out their twisted fantasies.

Each one of the issues involves opening a different can of worms. This is a new can of worms and now we will see how it plays out.

No doubt. You know I am likely the most pro 2A person on here but we obviously have the means to give little loons the capability of causing a lot of carnage. I would hope that some changes could be made to HIPAA laws to make background checks cover mental health issues in the past. As it stands, you get a question that asks if you have or currently have been deemed "mentally adjudicated" and you can lie your ass off without any means to confirm or rule it out by the person running the background check. Felonies and domestic charges are easy to track so they pop on the check.

  • PS on a semi-related note when the Boomers were kids somebody found a Playboy and hit it in a drawer and it was a big deal. Today 12 year olds can jerk off to some of the most violent pornography available on their Galaxy or iPhone.

You don't think that takes a toll on society? Not that it can be stopped but still...

Ted Bundy blamed pornography for his being a serial killer.  I never look at Red Tube, or Porn Hub, or........

I'll give you an example of what I am talking about. Things weren't so great in the great depression yet with all the suffering and hardships you did not see rioting or anarchy. Why?  Do you think if we had another great depression that people would act like they did in the 30"s?. I don't. We have seen already how people will act with some of the natural disasters such as hurricane Katrina. If we have another great depression we will have anarchy and riots. I believe the reason for this difference is the spiritual condition of the people and the country at the time. Putting it simply they had more morals back then vs today.

    Broaden your search.

There are mass slaying going on all over the world, daily.  You just never hear about it.  Daily is probably an exaggeration but do the math and you’ll see a small fraction of a percent are affected by these killers.

We advertise the psychos, they have always been around though.

But that hides the big blind spot of how these same people were treating other people who just didn't share the same level of melanin as them during the same time  period. They may not have robbed people who looked like them but they certainly were kosher with lynching people and being general pieces of shit. It is what it is now but no one should be looking back fondly at the "old days". They weren't fond for a good bit of people during our better spiritual times.

You are painting with too broad of a brush. You do know that not everyone who says they are Christians are actually Christians? That point is made repeatedly in the new testament for believers to make sure where the stand with God. There are going to be some who think they are fine with God and will hear Jesus tell them He never knew them. Here is a good analogy. About everyone in the country knows Donald Trump but does Donald Trump know them? Many may say they know Jesus but does He know them?

Even though our country was not set up as a Christian country we have always had a mooring as a country to Christian beliefs and values and the framers of the country themselves had some strong Christian beliefs that did affect how our country was set up. We seemed to determined today to drive God out of the public arena and into the 4 walls of churches but that is never going to happen with believers like myself who believe the message is to be taken outside the church and into the public arena.

  • As distasteful as it is I have to agree with Cleve that I think video games and other similar technology is a piece of the puzzle. A generation that grows up dealing with Society through a handheld screen doesn't become as socialized. Didn't anybody notice  a nasty turn of  a corner when Grand Theft Auto came out?  When you can play  at beating hookers to death and watching their blood spatter on the street ?  Didn't that kick it up a notch over shooting  Monsters and Aliens?  Really? Of course there are plenty of other factors one of which the instant Fame and notoriety a kid can add to his miserable and useless life takes things to a new height. Like a wild west Outlaw collecting wanted posters these kids have their life story tools to millions and millions of people every few minutes.

I have no doubt that Woody can play any video game he wants and not be pushed any closer to mass violence. That's probably true with all but one out of 50 million people. But when we talk about mass shootings we are talking about that exact one person out of 50 million. So basically anything I say or anybody else says is going to wind up being bulshit anyhow.

This is the thing where you get to pick and choose who counts towards your religion, right? Whatever makes you look better.

I don't get to pick and choose anything.  I am not the judge, God is. The bible is full of warnings to believers to make sure they really are His. In John Ch 6 Jesus gave a hard teaching on drinking His blood and eating his flesh to have spiritual life. The bible says many disciples left him over that teaching not understanding what He was saying but there is another important point. These disciples were never really His in the first place. They said they were but they weren't. Peter who misses the mark on many occasions had one of his better best days this time when Jesus asked if he would leave also he said "where else will I go? Only you speak the words of eternal life".

What did Jesus mean when He said, “I never knew you. Depart from me”?
