Waiting for the next time he wakes up in the morning feeling dangerous.

My worry is the Ravens defense is playing a Greg Williams style. Sending different blitzes on almost every play. That's a recipe to get Baker killed with the current state of our sieve o-line.  BTW to date only Matt Ryan has thrown more interceptions than Mayfield. He had better get out of his funk, or we don't have a chance Sunday.

And that's just it.  My biggest issue is teams are showing cover zero and Baker can't beat it.  Teams know that Baker has turned into a "one read QB" and if you cover the one read, the play is over.  Baker will automatically run to the right, try to find someone, throw it 20 yards out of bounds, and usually take a hard hit.  At this rate, I see no possible way Baker lasts through the halfway point, there's just no way.  People keep talking about Lamar getting hurt, but I never see him take super hard hits.  I absolutely hate sounding like a negative douche bag, but I really don't see any way we keep this game close, let alone win.  We simply don't score points, and Baker lost whatever chemistry he had.  We can talk about injuries, OL play, or whatever else the excuse da jour is, but Baker missed two easy TD throws at the end of the game.  That's never ok, and what's worse is that he didn't "miss" the throws because of accuracy, he "missed" them because he never even SAW where to throw it.  That tells us he's guessing where to go with the ball before he snaps it and he's not surveying the field.

I never thought of Baker as a one read QB, but it's true.  There's a ton of evidence to support this, and now that he's seeing ghosts and hearing footsteps, it's probably going to get worse before it gets better.  And there's no guarantee that it WILL get better.  Baker looks incredibly shell-shocked and scared out there, and the offense in general appears to be completely out of juice.  They have no energy, no emotion, and no creativity.  So what's next?  Well, OBJ will be injured soon, that's just how it goes.  He misses games every year, so you can bet it's coming.  Hopefully Calloway helps, but I don't expect it to.  Freddie has less time than a lot of people think, and don't be surprised if something happens at the bye.  Maybe not a firing, but a changing of the play-calling.  Not challenging the pass interference because you didn't understand you'd get the down over is reason enough for me to fire someone, but to run the draw on 4th and 9 immediately after that would have caused me to take action.  It was infuriating, embarrassing, and something I've never seen before.

One quick edit.  On the series where we didn't challenge the PI and we ran "the draw", Baker missed two open receivers and never threw the ball either time.  One was this guy named Odell Beckham, and I think the other was Jarvis Landry.  They're pretty good, but they can't throw the ball to themselves.  I really hope Baker gives us something to watch this year...things don't generally get better when you travel to Baltimore.

I put the cash down on Baltimore. We can't score, and Baltimore can. It's that simple.

Putting money down against the Browns when they play Baltimore? ?

    Regrettable, to say the least...

  • And in case you are wondering.....and I know you are the next time after this weekend when we see our BROWNS it will be on MNF and they are already a +4 underdog in San Francisco.    😉

.......and Baltimore -3 in pit and Arizona +3 in Cincinnati.

  • I predict that we lose this game.

But that still keeps us on track for my 9-7 prediction.

The tricky part is they can't afford to get into a prolonged losing streak due to not having a good scoring machine and have any serious thoughts about the playoffs.

The OL might be their Achilles heel and undermine the lofty expectations for this high power offense.

Must win game against front runner Baltimore?

I get it. But I have confidence that this team will bounce back.

This defense is stellar and once the offense wakes up...a lot of people will act like they never doubted.

For me it's not a matter of doubting... it's a matter of timing.

I think we'll be a very tough team in the second half of the year as we gel and the schedule is more favorable.

  • This is another way of looking at the game from what the books and the betting public are doing.  Since the line moved to +7 betting seems to be going toward Cleveland and the over. The spread is the flat line, money is the odds like -110, +240, etc. whatever there are other rather large tables that show the tick-by-tick line movements and other information mainly for booking houses and serious bettors.

I guess I’m really just hoping. And I sure as hell hope it doesn’t take til the second half of the year. 1-3 is a pretty big hole

And that's kind of my main concern. I know it's not very scientific, but something is off and we know all too well what happens to QBs when they lose their mojo.

Are you kidding? I want to be the wrongest dude this side of the equator! I want to be so wrong that we all chuckle at the end of the year while holding the Lombardi trophy and laughing at the absurdity of my comments. I love this team, and I remember the fun we had at the end of the year and the optimism we had for this season. But dang man, something is flat wrong, and they don't traditionally get better against the Ravens. But you know I'll be watching and rooting for us to win!

I wouldn’t say confidence mojo thing.  It’s a film study correction thing.  He’s left a “clean” pocket 12 times - on plays that were not designed rollout plays.  I would say he was one of the better QBs last year at navigating within the pocket and making throws

No doubt, and no argument from me about last year. I just don't understand why he's missing open targets, not seeing open targets, and why he's leaving the pocket so soon THIS year. And what I really don't understand is why he didn't target OBJ on that last failed series. Makes no sense.

I think he’s been fairly accurate.  I think all QBs miss some throws in a game.  The fact he isn’t taking the checkdown often and going down the field more than most suggests he’s likely to miss more than usual.  The level of difficulty going further down the field and throwing on the run.  Not as good.  Still He’s made a few of those throws and when he’s set his feet in the pocket he’s been on the money more than he hasn’t.   One of my complaints this year- take the check down and let these great athletes we have make YAC. He’s made some great throws this season.  Tough throws too and he’s missed some open guys sometimes in an attempt to push the ball further down the field.

And the chief concern he’s held onto the ball way way way too long on too many occasions.  Like you said not seeing open targets sometimes.

If OBJ was one on one during any of those goaline pass attempts he should have made an effort to find him.  I can’t imagine that being the case.
