  • We need a guy in the slot that has hands. Ginn has not shown that he can be that guy. I dont know that he would be much of an upgrade over furrey.

Hello, McFly, is anybody home? You ain't putting Ginn in to be your clutch third down "hands" receiver. He is in to be your home run hitter. He is your Jim Thome, not your Omar Vizquel. Yea, he needs to hit a few more homers, and strike out a few less times, but he has something you can't coach: blazing speed. Something the Browns do need.

  • Im not sure we want Ginn, depends on the asking price. but he is the type of WR we need, someone with great speed that can stretch the field, someone that makes a safety keep an eye on and pay attention to the deep ball. IF Robiskie develops, it will only result in a possesion reciever, and massaquoi lacks the top end speed to be a consistent vertical threat. Dont know much about Stuckey, he may be similar to Ginn, but theres probably a decent reason Ginn was a 1st round pick and Stuckey was a 7th...

That doesn't mean much after a couple of years. Colsten was a 7th round pick and he's better than 3/4 of the receivers that were higher picks then him.

  • First off, stop the Holmes comparisons. He was jettisoned because his contract had one year left and he is one strike away from a year suspension. He also is going to miss at least 4 games this year and the guy is a proven nob, even when he was at OSU. The Steelers did the right thing and actually made out pretty well getting a 5th.

I would absolutely give a 5th for Ginn, are you kidding me? I may even consider it with the last of our thirds. This guy has something we don't, and that is big league speed and defensive stretchability. He has also not been in the league long enough to be confirmed a bust. Many receivers take 3 to 4 years to come into their own. His hands have been questionable but he is not Braylons. For the most part he caught the ball pretty well at OSU but he did require some years to learn receiver. This carried over into learning the pro game so he should be far from written off. He is also a dynamic return man.

Ginn for a 5th would be stealing a young veteran that could be coming into his own and is one of the league's fastest players. However, his contract would probably be the main issue holding up any kind of deal. Some of you guys act like this kid is Paul "Glue Hands" Hubbard or something, and he is far from that. Has he lived up to his draft status? Absolutely not and he probably never will. But to act like this guy isn't worth a 5th is ridiculous, most 5th rounders don't even make the team. This is another case where fans totally overrate draft picks over actual players, but that's what you get when the draft is always our best part of the year.

  • Also, remember, if we got Ginn, he would be playing in the same town his Dad coaches in, Cleveland, Ohio. For any out of towners that don't know what Ted Ginn Sr. has done for football and the youth of Cleveland, please look it up because it is pretty amazing. His Dad's influence on him here I think would be tremendous for him...would it help him get open and catch passes, hard to say. It might though. And for a 5th round pick, I would do that trade.

Let's put it this way: I don't think you are going to be seeing Ted Ginn Jr. be one of those T.O./Ochocinco prima donna WRs, nor one of those Plaxico/Santonio/Braylon police blotter WRs, not with his Dad around.

  • The more i think about it he would be a good insurance policy for Robiske if his contract isn't too high.

Ginn's never had any character issues on any level, with or without his dad, who is somewhat debatable on his character himself. If anything, the scrutiny of playing in Cleveland could be a detriment, with all the pressure and affiliations. Either way, dude is a speed demon that was drafted 9th and has shown glimpses while still being very young. He could be a core guy for years and not just some stopgap, so a 5th round pick is a no brainer and I would even use a late 3rd. Travis Wilson was a freaking third round pick, and early too.

  • Just for the record, when i stated i think we could draft someone, i was more stating someone earlier versus the proposed 5th round pick we'd send. I think Ginn is more valuable than a 5th round pick. The issue's which would hold things up for me is the amount of money he's making AND the level of talent you could draft -which could be equal- and pay a LOT less.

Of course, as Riffer stated, freaking Travis Wilson was a third, so perhaps it would be smart to take a look at Ginn. He had 50 catches one season did he not?

Gips i like you brother but hello mcfly yourself, you havent obviously been reading all the posts that led up to that. I know he is not a slot reciever. Other posts on here before my post were stating that he could come here and be our slot guy. I was stating why he would make a bad slot reciever, Gips im on the same page with ya but hello brother are you home? Thats exactly what i was saying i never said that he would be our slot reciever or make a good slot reciever, come on man. Anyhow we could use some speed at the reciever posistion but not with ginn, we can do a lot better. Ginn doesnt scare anybody. The dolphins didnt even use him as a home run threat last year and they didnt have a great recieving core to begin with. By the end of the year bess, camarillo, and hartline, yes hartline were all playing over him. Now that the phins have marshall too he has become their 5th best reciever. We can do a lot better if we are looking for speed. Speed that can also catch would be nice.

  • A 5th would be about the right value for ginn. I wouldnt quite call it a no brainer but i definately wouldnt give up a third for him. A third this year would be dumb! A fourth or a fifth would be about right. He is getting paid top ten money to do absolutely nothing for the phins right now they would unload him for about anything just to get him off their roster. At this point with them getting marshall he probably could be had for even a sixth to a seventh. Id be for giving him a shot trading a 5th rounder for him as long as we did something else at reciever in the draft and werent counting on him to be real productive. But i see what you guys are saying from a hype point coming into the draft three years ago he would be worth possibly using a 5th rounder on to see if he can salvage his career. I dont want to have to count on him doing that. As long as their is a plan A brought in through the draft and Ginn would be our plan B than im fine with taking a chance on him.

HAHA, spot on.. yea just look at our late round picks and how many of them are still around or making a difference.. ie "big hitter" Beau Bell, "great receiving tight end" Martin Rucker, Hubbard... a 5th for Ginn would be a steal, hes better than any receiver we have now. but I think that picking one that we really like in the 3rd would be ideal

A 5th for ginn would be about equal value considering what he has done in his first three years i wouldnt quite call it stealing but a 5th would definately be worth a chance on him. You'd have a hard time though finding one team in the nfl that would give up more than a fourth or a fifth for ginn. His performance through three years in the nfl has been average to below average at best and a borderline starting receiver at best. Could he change things around sure. But do you want to count on that if that is our only upgrade at the wide receiver position. I would take Massoquai over Ginn any day of the week as far as ginn being better than any receiver we currently have. I agree with you though on taking a receiver in the third. I would much rather if we are just planning on adding one more receiver draft a receiver in the third than trade a pick for ginn. Its not so much that i wouldnt trade a 5th for ginn. Its more that i would hope that we would have our sights set on something better at improving our receiving core.

  • He has never been a WR, good return guy in college...that's about it

  • It seem some of you don't understand why Holmes only netted a 5th...

We understand perfectly why he only netted a 5th.

But a 79 catch, 1300 yard, Superbowl MVP Ted Ginn, Jr. is not.

He actually had good WR stats in college.

  • Here ya go. Im all for giving ginn a second chance to see if he can turn things around if it costs us a 5th rounder or less but here are some good reasons why the phins have all but given up on him as a receiver for them. He is like their braylon edwards when it comes to the big time dropsies minus the charactar issues. Seen enough of this with braylon. Funny Video with fitting song though!

    1. First off, I am The Gipper. There is another "patron" (using The Masters required terminology) here who calls himself "Gips". So as not to confuse best to keep me as The Gipper.

    2. Maybe I did mix up your post with another....but apparently we can both agree that Ginn would not be a slot receiver.

    3. As for Ginn not scaring anybody....I would beg to differ. The guy does have blazing speed, and that should be "scary" enough. We don't have anyone on this team with that kind of speed. You say we can do better if we are looking for speed. I say: Where? Who is out there either in the draft or in trade or as a FA who has his kind of speed? I certainly would like to know....and you might want to tell the Browns about it as well.

    4. We can agree that Ginn has not been productive enough in his career. You said the Dolphins didn't use him as their home run hitter. I would say that is certainly on the Dolphins shoulders and perhaps they have misused or miscoached him. Perhaps. You say that he needs to catch as well. I agree. I don't know why he hasn't "caught". He caught in college. He showed flashes of brilliance. Perhaps he has had some Braylonitis. That disease is hopefully curable....to the point that I still think it is worth an effort to get him at a low price.

If it weren't for the character issues, Edwards may still be here. After he apparently sucker punched a guy a foot shorter than him is when Randy Lerner said he had enough of him and his act.

He did have good stats, but i attributed that to the long ball and outrunning coverage, I never saw him meet the ball at it's highest point or break in and out of cuts the way a WR should

I think he's an unbelievable athlete just not a WR, imo
