This is a hybrid. It's a cross of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensimillia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff.

Turf actually means grass, but over the years has been shortened from Artificial Turf to just turf, hence people thinking turf means the synthetic stuff.

Just try rebooting, you may be having issues with your settings. Shouldn't be any problems, and as far as posting after the quote that is up to you to just place your cursor there and press enter before you start typing.

thanks for replying. it's been like this for a while...maybe a couple months. i've just been living with it. even to reply to you now i have to reply blank, and go back in and edit to post.

the cursor is not as simple either--you cannot click on the cursor to move it at all. it's either type there (first thing upper left--even before the

etc) or go back in under quick editor and type then.

it makes a big black cursor if you try to drag it to copy something and you cannot cut/paste or do any of the functions in full edit--it's seriously jacked. i can "quick edit" in order to reply and that's it.

maybe they will be getting that new surface like ohio state has, that makes for a very fast track. can you imagine harrison breaking it open without having to jump over potholes in the middle of the field

Note that I don't think that anyone still uses the old "Astroturf" stuff.

I looked up one poll of NFL players which said that the best stadium turfs were: #1 Arizona 2. Tampa

The worst fields were: #1 Pittsburgh #2 Oakland

That is just the field. However, one site, Fanfare rated the stadiums of the NFL played in last year. I will give you the list here, but you have to take their reasoning for these ratings with a complete grain of salt. You will see when I note some of the comments. In fact, I think some complete morons must have been doing these ratings (31 stadiums because of shared Jets/Giants):

    31. St. Louis Edward Jones Dome...didn't like domes

    30. Atlanta Georgia Dome..didn't like domes

    29. Washington FedEx Field

    28. New Orleans Superdome..didn't like domes

    27. Jacksonville Municipal Stadium

    26. Cleveland Browns Stadium....said they rated it low "because it had too much security"??

    25. Kansas City Arrowhead

    24. Miami Dolphins Stadium

    23. Oakland Alameda County Coliseum

    22. Buffalo Ralph Wilson Stadium

    21. Detroit Ford Field

    20. Seattle Qwest

    19. Arizona Univ. of Phoenix Stad.

    18. San Diego Quallcomm Field

    17. Baltimore Ravens Stadium...didn't like it because there wasn't much else to do there but watch the football game.!!??

    16. Tennesse Titans Stadium

    15. Minnesota Metrodome

    14. Philadelphia Lincoln Field

    13. Denver New Mile High Stad.

    12. Chicago Soldier Field

    11. New England Gillete Stadium

    10. San Francisco Candlestick Park

    9. Carolina Panther stadium

    8. Pittsburgh Heinz Field...liked it because the Steelers have sold out a lot of consecutive games!!??

    7. Giants Stadium....the old stadium, not the new one opening?

    6. Green Bay Lambeau Field

    5. Houston Reliant Stadium

    4. Tampa Bay Raymond James Stadium

    3. Cincinnatti Paul Brown stadium. Liked it because they had on the scoreboard an animated Tiger slashing through their opponents name and people cheered for that!!??

    2. Dallas Cowboy Dome....liked it because it was a new dome!!

    1. Indianapolis....liked it because it was a new dome!!

Note that they rated some older domes the worst because they didn't like Domes. But they put about the worst dome, the Metrodome about midway on their rankings, and rated the new domes the best because they like new domes!!??

  • It's all subjective.....CBS is nicer than Titans stadium, and I am not being a homer here....

I still think we needed a dome in Cleveland.

First: It's goofy to sit outside when it is freezing cold.

Second: Outdoors actually diminishes our home field advantage....CBS doesn't hold sound all that well with gaps in the west end.

Third: Outdoors in the cold doesn't give any advantage except to the crappy team. Most players on the team didn't grow up anywhere near Cleveland nor played college ball anywhere near Cleveland. As we get better, outdoors in December will only play against us.

Fourth: We won't even get in to the economic advantages a indoor facility has over a outdoor facility. Some events won't even consider a outdoor facility while VERY few would shun a indoor facility.

With a retractable dome, we could still maintain a natural surface.

We have steam lines installed 2-3 feet below the surface that could melt off any snow by the time the dome was closed on Thursday and the game on Sunday..

Sure, I am southernized, but people are kidding themselves if they say they would rather sit in the wind and 15 degree temperature's over sitting in a 70 degree maintained facility......keep it at 50 if you insist on wearing a sweatshirt....I am good with that as a compromise.

back to my point on equalizing the field.....it helps the underdog more than anyone else.

If you always plan on being a underdog, then yeah, tell me I am crazy.

We need a roof on the stadium IMO....and I know some will disagree, but I have laid out the reality above.

It all came down to money, and to a lesser extent, choice. We didn't want the old indoor/astroturf type dome, like the Metrodome or Silverdome, plus the money for that kind of dome wasn't there. And, in 1997-1999 when CBS was being buile the techology for a retractable dome was not yet perfected. (The only one being around was the Skydome in Toronto) Within a few years, yes, they started building retractable domes, like in Detroit, Houston, Seattle, plus in a number of baseball stadiums.

It would have been nice to have had one of those but we were a day late (or early in this case) and a dollar short.

I don't care for Cleveland Browns Stadium. I prefer the old stadium. It had character. History. This stadium was done cheaply as possible. Remember at first it didn't even have escalators. It could have been a great stadium if they had forked over more money and done it right. But they did it cheap, and you get what you pay for.

Remember, they were under the gun because of the 1999 deadline, plus recall it was built with money merely from an extension of the sin tax....so there wasn't an exhorbitant amount of money available for its construction. I suspect they did about as well as they could with what they had...but to rate a stadium down because of "too much security" or to rate it up because of some cartoon that comes on the scoreboard seems ludicrous..

They couldn't find anything bad to say so they picked that to drop us down. Lord know's we cant have Cleveland at the top of any list. They even rate one stadium low for the same reason they rate other's high. It doesn't make sense. It's like they had a different person go to every stadium and write about it while trying to play it off like the same person went to each one.

  • For the record, I like our stadium, even if they forgot to put a roof on the place.

The sight lines are good and the traffic flows well except for the stairwells.

Concession lines can bog down, but it is that way at any stadium.

I do wish they had more taps with Dortmunder...there aren't any close to my section anyway.

I guess for the impossible wish...I wish when they designed these things they allowed even another 4 inches of leg room...there isn't a lot of room to maneuver around....especially if you have big winter boots on...which is about half the season since they forgot the roof.....OK...I am repeating myself. 😉

  • Denver's field is actually real grass with synthetic grass weaved in. The maintenance guy showed us a sign showing how it was constructed. The advantage is stronger turf during the cold or rainy months because the synthetic grass will hold the soil together; you don't get the clumps that you see on Heinz field. I'd venture that this would be ideal for CBS as well and I hope that's what they are installing.

    "Playing Surface

The playing surface at INVESCO Field at Mile High is a 100% natural grass playing field made up of four different Kentucky Bluegrasses. The grass surface is stabilized by a network of polypropylene fibers that were sewn vertically into the sod every 3/4". This process took three weeks, with crews working 24 hours a day. This technology was developed by DD GrassMaster out of Holland, and has been used at over 100 stadiums worldwide.

Underneath the sod is a sand-root zone laid above an extensive drainage and soil heating system. After heavy rain, in a matter of minutes, surface water can be drained with a strong suction system called Sub-Air. The field will be heated during the winter months by a network of 21 miles of underground hot water tubing. "

  • I know we have the heating system in place.

This may be what we are aiming for.

  • wouldn't be suprised if they tear field up every year.
