  • Why the in the Hell isn't TBenjamin on the field to stretch it? would probably relieve some pressure up front. Christ look what Torry Smith did for the Ratbirds last year, RAw talent that produced. In this game speed kills. TB could be running deep outs, skinny posts, just about anything. Yet we go with the traditional 2 wr set allowing 8 men up. Shumer needs to go, Weeds needs to get some confidence in his Wr's to make plays themselves. He has a gun, release, needs to have more confidence.

Our RBs and O line don't scheme block that well so it's tough to go empty or 1 TE.

  • Weeden is here for at least another season. In the off season he'll recognize and work on 'pocket awareness'. He is terrible in the pocket:

    - can't seem to find the open guy

    - can't make quick decisions

    - can't decide when to do what

    - regarding batted balls, he'll recognize that he has to also see the 4 - 9 feet in front of him instead of trying to throw a speedball through the defensesive. The batted balls are the most aggravating, he seems to often to throw right into oncoming traffic - again, seeing the few feet in front of him, as well as down field.

    - quit staring down the play. Defenses often have no problem figuring out where the play is going cause Weeden stands and stares until it's time to pull the trigger.

However, there are allot of solid, easily identifable issues he can work on in the off season. The guy was a pro baseball player and should have the athletic smarts to identify and address his shortcomings. Why he hasn't done more this season is a real concern. Guys like Romo, Rothlisberger, Manning, Cousins, Flacco, etc. pull a play out when all looks like a bust. Weeden will calm down and build on that. Not ready to toss the guy just yet, at least until the rest of the team plays above his level. If the offensive line had been better against Washington, Weeden might have made better decisions. He did not have a good game, but Washington made him play to all his weaknesses too. Surprising for a Redskins team that hasn't really shown much of that until the game against Baltimore a week ago.

I think the MAIN reason he hasn't done more this season is Shurmer. It seems to me Shurmer is NOT putting him in a place to succeed. We run the same 5-8 plays ALL game. The defense knows whats coming. When you take a 3 step drop and fire a slant or crossing play, the d-line just stops and puts up their hands. You can't do that ALL DAY LONG and expect to be good in the NFL.

I disagree, Weeden struggled early finding receivers 1 on 1 on the outside early.

Eventually they regressed to their typical dig and hitch routes because Weeden wasn't getting it done.

People complained about wanting to see Weeden in the shotgun, well he's been in the shotgun, nothing impressive.

    Different QB, same excuses.

  • Worst pick Hecket has made yet, i think he felt pressured into taking him by Holmgren and the fact that we missed on RG3....He isnt the answer im sorry guys we gotta look else where... I knew when we made the pick we could have grabbed someone else and just McCoy ride this season out or shit took Cousins or Wilson a guy in a later round who Wasnt a 1st round pick or 29 Fucking years old,who could be better...

    @comeonman said:

I do think Heckert was pressured to get him. He is absolutely terrible. I wanted to give him the whole season to really form an opinion, but damn.

After the draft there were interviews and press conferences, and in them Heckert said (without naming names) that there was a situation where Holmgren stepped in and wanted Tom to take a player (obviously Weeden at 22) and Tom thought he was a good pick but not that high. He told Holmgren (as related in the press conference) that he likes him but not at this spot so if Holmgren wants him to draft him, he was going to half to tell Heckert to make the pick because he really was not who he wanted at that spot. Also, I remember reading that Lerner put heat on Holmgren to get a franchise QB for the Browns which I am sure had something to do with the pick.

All that being said, I have been disappointed with some of Brandon Weeden's games, but I am not ready to cut the guy after a rookie season like some. He needs to be given another year to show, one way or another, if he is the franchise QB that we have been looking for. As a side note, to me he has looked very different from earlier in the year. It seems like they are trying to make him into a game manager instead of a gunslinger. I am not sure if that is really what is going on or if the blame for the change lands on Weeden for being hesitant or the coaches for trying to win games to save their asses instead of developing Brandon..

  • I believe he has the tools, just to refine and I can't help but think the off season will allow that.

Unfortunately I felt the same way after Derek Anderson's break out season, then the next year he went complete flop.

Again, not ready to bail after one rookie season. We've not had stabilioty for so long, need to try to cultivate. This team has shown allot of growth over the last several weeks. The Washington game was simply a slap in the face that our growth still leaves allot of room for improvement. Probably a good thing. As unsure about Shurmur as I am, I hate changing again, but yesterday gave me a reality check again. Several weeks ago I wanted Shurmur gone during the biweek, then after a few good weeks I was wondering if they were gelling and he was not so bad. Now, back on the fence again.

  • Here it is All of you bashing Weeden LOL

  • Two preseason games against shitty teams and Weeden is now God all of a sudden? Yikes, you all are in for a huge letdown.

  • Both of you are assholes. Get a fucking life.

  • As the resident naysayer, curmudgeon, and I believe only 58 year old guy , probably the only guy here to push up 8 wheels and a couple 10s, I am going to inject MY preseason analysis.........

    ..

The Browns first units have executed plays, made some plays AND played better than their opponents, WHO, the last time I looked, were both NFL teams. While I have dismissed preseason with the adage of " nobody gets the Lombardi trophy in preseason", the fact of the matter is, preseason STILL counts in many, many ways.

Certainly, the guys who got injured cal ell you fist hand that the hitting and intensity IS real. Eh? As far as the bullshit of " look who they played", I submit to you that all ANY team can do is compete against the opponent put before them.

To anyone who has followed the Browns, even nasty ass me, you can see something different from any year I can remember. Some players are making plays and some of the plays are being executed quite nicely.

Nobody ever loses the Lombardi in preseason either, so lighten up.

Each team, coach and player has different objectives in preseason. It is a time to hone first units, weed out bad players, discover diamonds in the rough, and even make judgments on coaches and philosophies.

I can say this much, I watched the Browns this week during bowling. Other people, Memphians were making some positive comments when the Browns made plays So what does the preseason really mean? We fans don't have a fucking clue. There are so many variables, so many tests, trials and tribulations going on, it isn't a one-dimensional thing.

I know this much; watching the Browns so far I have felt some pride, and some hope. I have enough doubt in my own predictions that I think there is a possibility that I am going to have to pay that fucking knucklehead $100 on the over and under in total wins.

The preseason performance so far makes a lot of people think that this will be a fun year.

So for you naysayers, me included, be apprised you may eat cow, and Browns fans may have some nice things t crow about. I think that's what we have learned so far.

  • all I am saying is dont be to faced...Hate Weeden now love him come on man!!!!!! You can look at every post I have ever put on here in support of Weeden. 99% of you can not say the same

I've always supported Weeden, and will continue to until he is no longer a viable option at QB. Hopefully, that isn't for many years to come...

man a few of us really dodged a bullet by being in the 1% that didn't rag on weeds, and now your getting called out by tampon dog...sucks to be you assholes!

but in all seriousness tampa what are you gaining by digging this up and pounding your chest?

we all root for the same team here if someone wants to be critical of a guy so be it. unless someone was being a total douchebag I really see no reason.

the post's that I read was just the normal fan perspective of BW3.

because he has no other claim to fame except to point out other's mistakes (and NO they weren't mistakes, they were like you said normal fan chatter for the same team he supposedly roots for), or start a thread about how the browns should change their uniforms.

normal fan chatter/frustrated fan venting. This is quite normal for me and I'm sure many others. Weeden still may suck as bad as he did last year, were not even in the regular season man

Right- you didn't see me ragging on Brandon in this thread. And to keep it real, I changed the name of the thread. OK Weeds has looked good in the preseason, so did Colt McCoy, Charlie Frye, or Ben Gay for that matter. Better coaching and some off season work seemed to have helped- we'll see in 3 weeks, when the games count. And Tampa, if you want to dredge up the past- just remember that hindsight is always 20\20.

  • I didn't realize that benching had anything to do with preseason analysis.

Furthermore, that's barely anything and I'm sure you don't even do that.

Go play your polka and jerk off to what you used to be.

  • haha the Ghool is climbin on?!?! well welcome aboard...and don't fucking jinx us either rapscallion. do a dance or something...and whatever you do don't knock on any wood. shits bad luck.

im in the 1%. i think its at least 5% though, maybe 10-15% if you granted a pardoning mulligan on one or two. he had a pass from me with a wait and see until now based on rookie inexperience, outdated scheme w tools that lend themselves to a different system, and the potential of that sweet ass arm. he throws a prettier ball than any Brown i can ever remember...including Bernie, Vinnie, Otto...theres no denying the guy is a natural (thrower).

Weeden has a very nice ball.

    Make your jokes now.

Honestly, he throws a pretty ball and has the arm strength to succeed in this league. It all comes down to his mental acuity. If he can recognize what the defenses are giving him and process the information quickly enough to make the necessary adjustments, he can be successful.

He's finally in a system that is suited for him and emphasizes his natural skills. Turner and Chudzinski have had a slew of Top-10 fantasy performing QB's, which means they put numbers on the board. Couple that with a Top-5 draft pick at RB, and an offensive line that features two early round picks as well as two solid starters and I believe we could have a very serious offensive threat this season,

Honestly, depending in the season we have, Norv and Horton could be gone by next season.

  • This just in: fans unhappy with substandard QB play! Said QB impresses in new system! Fans have optimism!

Why is this even an issue?
