Auburn's Malzahn
-
Browns appear to be high on this guy

Read his wikipedia entry. He sounds pretty damn good, and seems to be skilled at turning around failing franchises.
-
I like him a lot.
But turning around an NFL franchise isn't the same thing.
Regardless of that, I like him more than McDs

Nice research, Very impressive. Lets put him on the top of the fan favorite.

Rather would have Mcdaniels just for experience (McDaniels does not have a good track record as a HC), but Malzahn is still a good fit.

FO could just read his book for $14.

I live in Patriots country and he is a good OC but Pats fans say they think he is too young to be a good HC. For now Malzahn is my top pick but I'm not optimistic they will land him. People talk about him the same way they talk about Chip Kelly.

This would be a good combo, him as HC and swartz as DC?

Git-r-done haslam.
Might not do an interview til after the bcs championship, if he even will.
Saying "the browns like Gus" is kinda like saying "the Brown's like bill cowher, jimmy Johnson, and bill parcels"

1) Malzahn signed a 6 yr contract extension with Auburn worth around 4m a year. In normal circumstances it would probably take getting around twice that much to get him to consider coming here and abandoning a program that he has built into a perennial NCAA powerhouse that will be in the discussion for the national championship for years to come. In our current circumstances, the deal Haslem would have to give him would include a ridculous buyout in the very likely scenario we cut his tenure short. Chud just got a 10.5m buyout from the browns. Just for shits and giggles let's pretend there is remotely a chance he's coming here and let's theorize on the buyout clause he would insist on.
2) All do respect to Malzahn, I do not want the Browns to go after another no huddle read option blah blah blah. I want a guy who's coached in teh NFL and knows what works and what doesn't. The time to get in on the read option ride would have been a few years ago. It's on the downturn now as defensive coordinators are studying it constantly. It will only be viable for another year or so....so why lock in a coach who only knows how to win like this on the college level? I want a guy who knows that in the NFL, especially the AFC North.....you get a big fucking FB who gets wood just thinkng about hitting AFC North LB'ers (we had one of those), then you get a big downhill RB who's first instinct is to accelerate through the gaps the play calls for and if there's a defender there he's take em with him for a couple yds (we also had one of those).

A 1st year college coach takes his team to the national title game and all of a sudden he has built a "perennial NCAA powerhouse?" Slow down. It took a hail mary and a missed FG returned for a TD to even get to the title game that has yet to be played. Auburn could go .500 next year for all we know. Malzahn will stay with Auburn anyway so the Browns front office is just wasting their time. I wouldn't mind a coach with NFL experience too, but haven't heard any names to get excited about..

rather have home town boy mickey D. at least he's from here and has some NFL coaching experience.
and yes he made some mistakes but hopefully he'd learn from them.
no college wannabees pleez, even though kelly has made the cut so far.
key words SO FAR.

You win the SEC and you give it up to join The Three Stooges and no QB at the bottom of the AFC North?
On Mike & MIke they asked this morning ... between Washington, Minnesota and Cleveland which is the most attractive job?
The answers: "Eh". and "I'll Pass".
After further evaluation, they said Washington because maybe you could build something with Griffin, and then Minnesota because at least you had a running game.
When asked directly about Cleveland (It was either Mort or Scheffler, I think Mort) said there are concerns from the outside about the organization there, and Haslem's going to have to sell that (clear that up)to any potential candidates.
We have 5 Pro Bowlers, tons of cap and tons of draft picks ... but all people see is 1. No Quarterback and 2. Fucked up organization.
Had they given Chud a second year, a full back, a real WR across from Gordon and one year with a real QB prospect, I don't think anyone would have faulted them if they fired him after another losing season.
But to fucking send all these coaches and their families packing after one year ... they are not making many points out there.
"Here ... come beat Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Cincy every year ... good luck with the QB thing ... and you'll work with the roster we give you."
Banner and Lombardi shop for the groceries and you cook an award-winning dinner or you'll be moving your family again next year and wish you never left that cushy college job.
-
We wont get a good hire. Face it - we are the least attractive HC job in the NFL right now - with a FO that will fire you immediately if you dont win in year 1.
-
Other teams are hiring their guys....yet the Browns are silent because they CAN"T get the guy they want. Noone wants to come here.

Or, the guy that they want is still coaching (well, coordinating) in the playoffs and we won't announce until after their team is out.

Hearing this makes me laugh. There are only 32 of these jobs on earth. The candidates have been coaching for most of their lives, with the dream being one of these jobs. Yes, maybe your over-rated, look at me coaches like Gruden won't want to coach a team in transition, but for 95% of the other candidates out there, THEY are hoping their phone rings and the Browns are on the other end.
