2013 Do-Over: Knowing What You Know Now...

Which 2013 NFL Rookie HC Would You Have Chosen to Lead the Browns?

Here are the members of the 2013 Rookie Class to choose from:

    • Bruce Arians
    • Gus Bradley
    • Rob Chudzinski
    • Chip Kelly
    • Doug Marrone
    • Mike McCoy
    • Marc Trestman
    • Other

    Who would it be? Why?

Gus Bradley has that basically talentless jacksonville team playing hard - imagine what he could do with a talented roster.

I went with Trestman... just something about him that seems calming, steady, purposeful, resolute. Maybe it's the glasses...

Marc just edged out Kelly in my mind. Kelly was a big surprise to me, especially the degree to which he adapted his "system" to the players he had.

I wanted Chip Kelly last year, and it's easy to say again that's the guy I wish we could have gotten... BUT, he didn't want to be in Cleveland. If I had to go with a 2nd guy it would have been Mike McCoy, but again a guy who ditched us. Third, would have been Bruce Arians, who was my #2 choice last year, did we even interview him? Pretty much anybody other than Chud, whose hire shocked me at the time but his firing doesn't shock me looking back...

Mike McCoy. I think he's a great coach.

I liked Arians Myself...Trestman as well....It's obvious Chip Kelly saw something about the Browns FO he didnt like and we are suffering for theyre ineptness...

Arians. Cardinals had the best defense in the league, and there offense was solid even with palmer throwing 2 picks a game. He led the cards to a 10-6 record in the best division infootball

How do the browns pump out all these good coaches anyway but not have any.

Arians, bellichik, saban, trestman, Ryan, etc.

    Kinda annoying.

How? Simple. Poor ownership, poor management. Art Modell was originally OK....when the NFL was really a small time business. But starting in the 80s when it became really big business he became shit. And the last decent guy that the Browns have had control of the team was Ernie Accorsi.

To be fair to the Browns to a point, when Chuck Noll was hired to run the Steelers the Browns HC was Blanton Collier who had taken the Browns to 4 NFL Title games in 6 years. Collier was still HC of the Browns for at least 3-4 years after Noll had taken that job.

And as for Bill Cowher......who did the Browns select as their coach instead of him? Bill Belichick....and we know all about him. Cowher was hired by the Steelers while BB was HC here.

And further about Cowher....I don't know if he would have made any difference to the whole Art Modell mess if he had been here.

Would he have become persona non grata like BB is here.....or would he have been excused and understood. like Ozzie Newsome is for going with the Ravens.

Bellichik is the only one that really seems to get away with it ^^.

But after 3 SB wins, the players must respect the hell out of him.

Harder for a young unproven guy to get away with stuff like that. Although mangina was potentially progressing with the browns. But we'll never know because he got fired 5 minutes after holmgren walked into the interview.

I was impressed with how Trestman came in and got the team playing very well after the 2012 second half collapse with Lovie at the helm. He won two consecutive Gray Cups as head coach which pretty much stamps him as a "proven winner". He has a reputation as a qB guru and has plenty of NFL coaching experience. Hindsight being what it is, he outperformed the rookie coach Chud hands down. I may be wrong, but the Browns didn't even pursue him. More questionable FO scouting efforts leave many wondering if they have the ability to identify talent.

Speaking of Mangini, why haven't the Browns interviewed him to come back? Oh, that's right- the Stooges want a puppet.
