Josh Gordon Troubles

  • I think the fact they Goodell delayed it so he can be there is good for Josh. At least Rodger sees the seriousness of this decision. Josh's attorneys leaking info looking like a good move.

I think being around 3,000 + "addicts" would make you biased. Ive smoked weed for 13 years and Ive never once felt ill or shaky when I missed a few days. I smoke it because it relaxes me, and everything is better high. Food, movies, music, sex, and being bored are examples. Ive been around plenty of daily smokers, and I feel confident in saying Ive never met a marijuana addict. The problems with marijuana come in when you mix it, or smoke it all day every day.

I used to think that it and other things made everything better too. Once I quit it I found that to be untrue. For me everything is better without it. To each their own as long as it doesn't hurt others or themselves.

    Agreed

The NFL needs to use Gordon's case to realize they should increase the threshold of a positive THC test and re-think their punishments. If they don't want players around people who smoke weed, they should put that in their policy. It's not in there, so there is possibly no violation of any rule. Gordon has passed 70+ urine screens, and has been doing well since his first punishment and does seem to "want" to improve his life. He seems like a good kid who would benefit from MORE guidance and structure, not a "ban" from probably the only thing in life he can actually be proud of. If they want to take the "hard line" approach that players are responsible for what's in their body, then learn from Blackmon's troubles, and give him a suspension but allow him to remain with the team. Being in that "team" atmosphere will do more good than "banning" him. That rule is written to ENABLE people to FAIL, not to help them. It should read, "If you're in stage 3 of our program and you fail a test... then fu** off, peace!!" I would think an organization like the NFL would give people the support they need to "get better," not punishment and turning your back on them. Actually, I wonder if their policy is even legal... The Medical Board and the Pilot Authority both allow people with drug and alcohol problems an opportunity to get back on their feet, and will even give them back their license after a certain point. As somebody said before, this guy is an entertainer... this level on a drug test should have been addressed with Gordon and his team, in private, and let go. Now it's a public fiasco that is going to end up hurting all parties involved...

  • There's no reason why the NFL should have a different threshold for anything than WADA, to be honest.

  • WADA you know?

Just one more thing on the long list of things one "contemplates" when stoned I reckon. 🙂

Agree... and at the risk of making what some will see as another excuse for Josh...

If everything being said is true...

If Josh has been staying as clean as 70 tests indicate he has been...

If this "failed" test is due to second hand smoke...

Then how is he supposed to accept a year long suspension?

How could he be expected to handle it?

If the league is as concerned for this young man as all the talking heads seem to be, then IMO a suspension is inconsistent with that concern.

To that end, if you remove him from, the league and tell him not to be around the Browns, that's a bad move. If you ban him for 16 games (because we won't make the playoffs without him), then he can get the help he needs from the team?

Not sure what the NFL CBA allows, but it's common for US companies to pay for an employee's counseling under their EAP (Employee Assistance Program). In drug cases my company put the employee on medical leave until the program was completed.

I've heard that he's allowed no interaction with the organisation, or at least that if he's banished indefinitely, Browns can't get involved in his treatment? Maybe they can't *mandate* a treatment because he's not employed by them, since his contract gets suspended for a year.

  • My official on the record prediction:

    Announcement: Sunday

    Penalty: 10 Games

  • Prediction

Penatly: 8 games, 10 game checks.

    Announced today?

  • My prediction is all or nothing. They are either going to follow the letter of the law and pull him out for a full year, or they are going to say something was messed up and give him nothing. I heard that the guy Goodell selected to be present for the hearing doesn't buy into second hand smoke, so I figure it is going to be a full year ban.

Why not? Not saying you're wrong, just not so sure on the procedures. Here I was waiting with baited breath...

  • the difference with private companies and the NFL is that the NFL has a player's union who voted on all these rules, so when it comes back to bite them in the ass.............

i didn't hear anything about a delay with gordon's precedings so i don't know why if the judgement is handed down to day why the ruling won't be released. why would they wait 2 days?

  • Presumably the ban takes effect immediately, if it's a one year thing, so he wouldn't be allowed to practise, so the team would be told immediately?

  • Hearing to take place today after all, earlier report of it being delayed false.

Same guy that was the NFL's concussion guru?

So the hearing is today and Roger is not even going to attend? I thought he sat in on the big cases. Had he wanted to attend, then the hearing could have been held in Canton. Has the emperor washed his hands?

I had thought more of him in the past, but may have to label him Roger Dodger...

i'm thinking it's gonna be this guy, you know the one that went on mike and mike and got hammered because he said the ray rice punishment was fair and just.

    gordon is fucked.

  • Ray Rice probably took him aside and said what he did to his wife was nothing compared to what he would do to him if he got a higher suspension.

To not toss some eggs (from Browns fans) at the HOF Induction tomorrow?
