We have to stop blowing 1st round picks.

The Browns Board

  • 2011: 6th pick in the draft and we trade down to get Phil Taylor. The guy has done NOTHING since we have gotten here. Could of had: Julio Jones, JJ Watt, Ryan Kerrigan, Robert Quinn,

2012: 3rd pick and 22nd pick in the draft and you trade up for Trent Richardson and Brandon Weeden. Both are gone because they were so bad. Could of had: Luke Keuchly, Matt Khalil, Alshon Jeffrey. I remember wanting Vontaze Burfict in the 2nd and 3rd round and people told me hell no because he was an off field cancer

2013: 6th overall pick and you select a situational pass rusher in Barkevious Mingo. He has been so disappointing. That year I wanted Jarvis Jones, Tavon Austin, or Tyler Eifert and now it looks like Patterson, Reid, and Sheldon Richardson are the good ones from that draft class. Once again, another blown pick.

2014: 4th overall pick and 26th overall pick and we use them to trade down for a CB who was taken off measurables and combine info. Justin Gilbert is by far the one of the worst rookies in the NFL right now for how he was hyped to be a day 1 starter and best CB in the draft. We could of had Sammy Watkins, Kahlil Mack, Jake Mathews, Ryan Shazier, Aaron Donald, Kyle Fuller, or CJ Mosley. The Manziel pick I will reserve judgement on because he hasn't seen the field and many people are upset that we should have taken a receiver and I understand their argument.

So in conclusion, we have had 6 first picks since 2011 and 2 of them are gone, 1 is a back up, and the other 3 are mediocre or terrible. We have had 6 first round picks and not a single ONE is a quality starter... 😐

I don't think Phil Taylor is that bad. He is about as good at what he does as Jones is at what he does. Jones, to me, is overrated.

OK, there can be no defense of the TR/BW3 picks.

Yes, Mingo is disappointing...but unlike TR/BW3, I am not ready to write him off. As someone noted, he has only played about one full season...and those kind of guys often take some time to develop.

I think after 3 games we have to reserve judgment on ALL these players. Three games is no basis to evaluate a person on. Give me three years, not 3 games.

What you really needed to do is to go back further......the corps of any good football teams are those players that are in years 4-8.

Go back to the picks of Haden and Mack and Thomas and those 1st round picks are not that bad. Clearly questionable are the Quinn and Wimbley picks.

And why stop at the first round.....quit blowing the 2d/3rd round picks as well. Here they are:

    2013: Leon McFadden

    2012: Schwartz/Hughes

    2011: Sheard/Little

    2010: Ward/Hardesty/McCoy/Lauvao

    2009: Robo, MoMass, Veikune

    2007: Eric Wright

    2006: Jackson/Travis Wilson

These guys from like 2006 -2010 should be the veteran leaders on this team......there is no one here now.

  • Every year the Browns blow it in the draft. I'm sick of it! A losing team trades away a pick every year!! And every team in the NFL knows it. Since 2011 our team could look like this: Julio Jones, Luke Kuechly, Jarvis Jones, Sammy Watkins or Mike Evans, Ryan Shazier or Kyle Fuller.

With all these early first round picks since 1999 we should have at least been in the playoffs.

We finally get rid of Holmgren who was just collecting a paycheck and we hire Ray Farmer who proved to be a stubborn fool. How many years have to go by before they finally have a good Draft!

  • I think the title of this post could of been better thought out....

  • 2006 Kamerion Wimbley

Browns passed on AJ Hawk, Deangelo Williams, Vernon Davis

    2007 Joe Thomas

Browns passed on Darelle Revis, adrian Peterson, Marshawn Lynch, Patrick Willis

    2008 No pick

    2009 Alex Mack

Browns passed on Clay Mathews, Michael Crabtree, Percy Harvin

    2010 Joe Haden

Browns passed on Earl Thomas, Maurice Pouncey, Demaryious Thomas

  • Sorry Gipper,

but if you think Phil Taylor is as Julio Jones, you are 100% wrong.

Julio Jones is a top 10 NFL receiver and Phil Taylor is an average starter who's so fat and out of shape he failed his physical for training camp.

  • Maybe the Paul Brown curse is true. Different coaches, starting quarterbacks, poor draft decisions, hasn't stopped the Haslam regime from jumping on the losing bandwagon. There was a Ray of Hope when they traded Trent Richardson for a first round pick. But alas; this is Cleveland.

    Disagree...

It's as fully thought thru as any of his posts... and actually more than most.

  • Just stop it...

  • Taylor has been a beast for us what on earth are you thinking? I will agree though that year I wanted Watt bad. We were running a 4-3 and he was a beast 43 DE at Wisconsin. I was really surprised how well he adapted to the 5 tech 3-4 spot. Just imagine if we had gotten him and lined him up at the 43 DE coupled with our current d line minus Taylor, obviously. I think with him and Sheard we would still be running the 43.

You contribute absolutely nothing but dry empty critiques to this board.

You are sound like an over-philosophical douche.

We have 6 first round picks and not a single one is a good starter you buffoon.

  • Gosh....I could have married Jennifer Anniston

Gosh...I could have married Teri Hatcher

Gosh...I could have married....any hot chick you can think of.

Gosh...If I had only picked the right 6 numbers in the lottery instead of the 6 I did pick.

Gosh....if your life is so bad, and if you are a Buddhist, just jump off the 480 Bridge and hit restart.

Otherwise....quit whining like a baby. It is pathetic.

Think about what the Browns can do to improve from this point forward, not about what they coulda done years ago.

Or perhaps you go back, re-evaluate your mistakes so you don't make them again in the future.

Of course playing Monday morning QB is easy, but when you have 6 first round picks and haven't hit on one of them, that's whats pathetic.

  • one of the biggest manziel ball huggers turns into the whiniest bitch on the board?

    who woulda thought?

And buffoon? Time to step up your game, son...

Were losers. We are 0-2 in the division and in dead last.

We still can't beat Baltimore and Pittsburgh.

So sick and fucking tired of losing and dealing with "Oh chill out Moral Victory douchebag fucking pussies"

Can't we just fucking burry these god damn teams for once.

the only one we blew on your list was the kam wimberly 2006.

all the rest i'd say we made the right choices.

how can you question thomas, mack or haden? (unless you're joking).

  • I'll say this. Mike Holmgren the meat titted zilch set us back a good 5 years. What a shitty draft guy that wouldn't let Heckert do his job.

  • But they aren't here any damn more. Give it a rest, it's history and it's over.

Good freakin gravy, stop the bitching.

Don't just start rattling off names if you think no one is going to check up on you. RE: 2006, first off, Hawk and Davis were already off the board when the Browns drafted- or did your ESP tell you to trade up to get one of them too? Secondly, the Browns very unwisely traded with the Ravens allowing them to take Haloti Ngata.BTW- at the time that was considered a reach by the Ravens to take a NT that high. Ooh- you forgot about Cromartie and Tamba Hali- who were on the board.

2007 You can bite me regarding Joe Thomas. A multi time Pro Bowl LT trumps anyone else on that list. Peterson missed time with a blown out knee, may be spending more time in jail, and the Vikings haven't been to the Super Bowl even with him. The humongous mistake was trading up to take "It's a sin if they draft Quinn". My quote from that draft. That little detail cost us Chris Johnson in 2008.

2009 Mack's been to the Pro Bowl, started every game, and the others have all missed significant time due to injury. BTW, Crabtree was off the board when the Browns drafted, Strike 2, your 20\20 hind sight seems to be off kilter. The little detail you seemed to miss was in the second round, the Browns took Mohammed Massivedrop instead of LeSean McCoy.

2010 Haden has been to the Pro Bowl, and it would have been twice if he hadn't gotten busted for alderal. Pouncey? Strike three pal. you think we were going to draft a center when we already had a Pro Bowl center on the roster?

He needs to go to remedial draft history school, and learn himself up.
