Sure hope they lock up all the homeless on draft day!

  • Sorry Mik, we realize he was your boy, but he is a bust.

no apologies necessary for me. if he turns out great, great. if not, it'd wouldn't be the first time, nor the last, i'm sure. but i highly doubt they give up on the kid after his rookie season.

i mean at least he looks like he can play in this league. i guess his practice habits need to be adjusted.....

what'd it take dre kirkpatrick 3 years to start looking like the player they drafted in the first round out of alabama.

unlike manziel these guys have the speed and athletic ability to play in the nfl. but i guess like manziel he has more important things to do than give 110% to the organization at this time.

Even though I was literally begging the football gods for us to take Werner that year, I'm not even close to giving up on Mingo. Mingo ain't been used right since he got here. He's a situational pass rusher with his hands down or a 4-3 blitzing OLB'er like Von Miller. He would be unblockable if put in the right positions...but in this current defense we put him right infront of a OT with at least 60lbs on him. When we do drop him in coverage he does very well but it doesn't show on TV. He's another reason why I want us to move to a 4-3. We can still sporadically sub him in at DE but he would be much more natural as the OLB'er. Werner would have been nice though...I'm really surprised Horton didn't take him that year if we were looking to convert a DE to OLB'er

  • It looks like most are angry because he "tweeted" this, but as usual OP has the facts skewed....

Does anyone checks facts or sources anymore???

If it makes a difference, these are just words from a conference call - interview where he was asked about Gilbert.

Her's a link to the "whole" story...aka comments.....I dont see anything wrong here....

    Thanks for shedding light...

Still find this tidbit in the article a little disturbing:

"The inside linebacker and Gilbert haven't spoken, Dansby said, but he would welcome the opportunity."

I would think a leader would go to the kid and say face to face, "Our Defense needs for you to get better. I think I can help you get better. All you have to do is ask."

    @jcam222 said:

To have these vets doing this so openly means Gilbert has really been a locker room cancer. I'd go so far as to say these messages are rooted in the coaching staff.

Can't go that as far as "cancer". Prideful? Perplexed? Maybe even "lost" or "depressed"? Sure.

Just saying that going from "Pick-6 Near-Hero" to essentially benched might mess with his head.

All those complaining about 1st round draft picks....WW you're comparing yourself to numerous FOs that have been here and gone. Revolving door with some being not good for this team (2012 probably the pinnacle year of 1st round draft disaster). I'm not ruling out Gilbert yet, and we know what the rumors are on the Manziel pick. The rest of the picks and FA choices made by Farmer and Co. were anywhere between shrewd to brilliant.

I see this as a good thing. This is not a mutiny, These are veteran players who have bought into Pettine's philosophy, believe it will make them a winning football team and you have a few hold outs they are telling to get on board.

Take the Draft/FA pick-ups as a whole, wanna cry about players that we don't know for sure will bust? Complain about the diamonds in the rough this FO has found as well. take to the streets with your "fuck Bitonio, K'waun, Kirskey, West, Crowell, Desir" campaign. You kids sure can bitch. God damn I wish we had the same roster we did under Chud, who do these new guys think they are winning more than 4 games?!

Positive tough love from the veterans on the team. If Gilbert was a true bust they say nothing and concern themselves on younger players that need the motivation. Think about it a second they call out Gilbert and not Johnny. Johnny is a true bust.

    Just for you cdl15:

    http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2014/12/karlos_dansby_says_johnny_manz.html#incart_story_package

The differences are that JF called himself out and the second being it was two defensive players calling out their defensive teammate who so far has not publicly acknowledged anything needs changing. If you read both articles I think it appears all are surprised (Pettine included) that JF feels he was not doing enough to take it as seriously as his real first time job, not just a game which has come easy at every level until now.

  • what a bunch of flipping fools.

The 14 draft was worse than the Richardson and Weetard draft. Unreal that we can shit all over 2 first rounders with such consistency.

I'm fucking scared to see who we take next April.

And for those of you who are about to try to stick up for Gilbert or Manziel, wake the F up. You're, AT BEST, wishful thinking. Real evidence shows both are fucking headcases, and fuckin suck.

    Here's the real issue.

When you're short on talent, high first round picks are SUPPOSED to be impact players. Gilbert was SUPPOSED to come in, beat out Buster and give us the most feared secondary in the league freeing up an extra person to rush the an/ stuff the run.

    It didn't happen.

For such a high profile draft pick to not only fail to make the desired impact, but also fail to even see significant time, REALLY makes our scouting department look like a bunch of idiots.

A first round pick is supposed to be a no brainer, an instant starter unless your team is overflowing with talent, which we're not.

So to blow 2 1st round picks in the SAME YEAR REALLY, REALLY makes the scouting department look like a bunch of morons.

Something is desperately wrong with them, or Jimmy is barking orders and making them look bad. I don't know, pick one.

At this point Gilbert and Maniel. Bitonio and Desir seem really good. Kirksey positive and West could be depending on how his attitude and fumbles change.

The draft is the hardest part of NFL football but also the most important. If this team had an average record in the first round, we would be playoff bound for sure. Green Bay is by far the most effective at drafting great players. The Browns need to figure out what they're doing wrong in this area and fix it.
