Cox is very much an upgrade...

But I agree, Browner is exactly the same as Skrine.....plus, he was #2 in penalties(behind Skrine) with less than 1/2 the reps...(not good)

I always liked Cox game from the slot - he just had some character issues in the early going.

Im talking about his quality of play, not how he stacks up physically.....and statistically, he's the same player.....

exact same PFF ratings.....both huge liabilities with the penalties.....so, in the context of what I was saying, yes, he is the same as Skrine(because he is not a real upgrade or better player)

Is he related to the Browner family of Warren Oh.? Ross Browner, Joey Browner, Keith Browner, Keith Browner Jr.. I think Max Starks was a kid of one of them. All NFL players.

In checking, I see nothing that says he is related, but I note that he is 30 and played 3-4 years in the CFL before coming to the NFL.

He'd be a nice change of pace considering all of our current corners are like 5' 10". Having a big, physical corner to press at the line is exactly what Pettine and co. like to see.

Obviously depends on the price, though.

What? Gilbert is 6'1, Desir is 6'1, Haden is 5'11 and Kwaun is 5'9. So we average around 6' at our CB spot.

You guys don't seem to realize how good of a CB Skrine was. Skrine should have been a Brown. He's probably the fastest player on... or the fastest player that WAS on the team. Buster played the game the way it was supposed to be played. He rarely held a WR in coverage... he was however called for a lot of penalties that shouldn't have been penalties. He was really good. He worked his ass off to get better every season and we reward him by letting him go. Horrible example of how to treat your own. But, sometimes you don't know what you had until it's gone.

If Skrine was 3inches taller he'd be a absolute monster. Browner would be an excellent fill for that hole tho.

I know, I have complete confidence that Gilbert could be the #2 guy beside Haden. It really just sucks though, I've always said that it's not the size of the dog, but the fight in the dog that counts, there would not be a better comparison to that analogy than Buster Skrine. He was probably one of my favorite players. All heart and speed to spare, I'm sad to see him go...

I like K. Williams and Desir though, I think our Secondary is really strong. But we'll need to find Whitner's replacement soon, at least to start grooming. If Gipson's potential is an apparition then things start to get muddy. We need to build through the draft, this is true; but, we need to retain the players that become playmakers once it's time to pay up. We need to quit being a farming team for the rest of the NFL. It's started with Sheard, Skrine, Cameron and a few others... that needs to stop.

Buster was fine, cept he was short, and a lot of those penalties were legit

on him, and he was a liability against good receivers who were taller

    and could also jump.

I expect Gilbert and Desir to really come on, and that makes Buster not worth all that money

    to the Browns.

He's a feisty, fearless good player, but certainly not a "sign at any cost" player.

    Umm.... Just no.......

You don't get that many PI's called on you if you didn't do it all the time. I'm glad he got his pay day, but even more glad we got rid of him.

Benji is faster, and Gilbert is just as fast

How is getting older an upgrade? Letting TJ Ward go was a mistake. Now Sheard and Skrine for older players? There's no continuity in this type of thinking. Sheard and Skrine should have been kept. If not then draft replacements. This is getting ridiculous. Pay the players on your team. If Sheard and Skrine were so mediocre tell that to The Patriots and the Jets.

I couldn't agree more! Not to mention he signed with the Jets for not real big money. What's wrong with the Browns? TJ Ward, Buster Skrine and Sheard not good enough?

I saw a video of Skrine just after he was drafted where he ran a 4.26-4.29 on stop watches with multiple timers. Yes, at the combine he is tied for the second fastest time... However, Benjamin blew out a knee last season and I doubt he's as fast as he was. Whitner ran that time 10 years ago, I also doubt he's that fast still. Cameron, another name on that list is about to be gone. Haden ran a 4.5 40... Whatever though, it's over and done with, I don't agree with it but it is what it is. One day when I own the Browns; we will win a Championship.

Exactly. Not like those guys got signed for cap busting contracts.

Ward really sucked playing for the Broncos- NOT.

and he'd be the first one cut if they had to make that kind of move.

lord knows he put the broncs over the top like your boy sammy did for buffalo.

Actually, I don't think they see that they are replacing Skrine with an older player, but with younger players Gilbert/Desir/Williams. Browner would just be veteran depth.....not a quid pro quo replacement.

As for Sheard.....possibly his replacement will be Mingo or a name they call on draft day....so that too would be getting younger
