We Browns fans would all be wiser if we could just split Solomon in half. Only his real mother would object.

wow I would not have guessed Kruger played so few snaps. That just doesn't pass the eyeball test, i'm usually always checking out who the edges are to see what we might be running on that play. Krugers hard to miss with that long hair and he's usually standing. If he's gonna get so few snaps, they should "all" be with his hands down. There's zero reason to get into his reserve tank by running him around.

  • @mudfly said:

Exactly.....Kruger has averaged 60 snaps per game and this week got 28....Mingo only got 3.....

and these 2^^^^^ had the fewest snaps of all the LBs.....which tells me the coaches dont like their performance and benched them to give the other guys a look.....

Hopefully it wakes them up.....or, at least, gives someone else a chance to step up......

Or...the coaches could let Kruger do what Kruger is good at instead of making him drop back into coverage. If they play him to his weaknesses, why would they expect stellar performance?

To me, it seems he cant cover well and he cant play the run well.....so Im not really sure what he's good at except bull rushing the QB(and he's pretty marginal at that too).....

Fact is, no matter what they do with him, he's not making plays and he's getting nullified on almost every snap..(rush, run, cover)....

I see the coaches moving these guys around in an effort to get "someone" to make play.....hey, they gotta try something....

well I see what you were going for there, but half of Solomon is going to be even less effectual than the full version. I dont' see any win there.

Nor would I have guessed so few, but that reinforces the point we have "discussed" in the past that it is very hard to:

    - watch a game live, especially a close, emotional game as ours was Sunday;

    - check multiple aspects of a defense (or offense); and

    - keep an accurate, running count of those aspects in our head.

It's why the best the above can deliver are impressions. And it's why those impressions are often inaccurate at best.

But Krugs did pressure Flacco on at least two occasions. Could have, maybe even should have, been sacks, but making Flacco move is often enough to defeat the play. So make him the designated, pass-rushing DE bookend to Armonty...

Problem is that with Solomon down with a knee...

I do remember the one big whiff, where he almost got him with an arm swipe....his entire stat line for the game is 4 hurries and 2 missed tackles....

    But thats it....

    maybe the hurries helped.....not sure....

Krugers bull rush isn't as good as it was in year one cause we dropped weight off him to play this stupid cover shit. He was even better at Blt cause there he was a strict outside hands down edge rusher. So not only does he need to go back to playing 4-3 DE, he needs to put the necessary size and strength back on which means getting back up into the low 280's where he was effectual in Blt. So stupid what we've done with that guy.

and I love me some Danny Shelton & Cam Erving......but this is why I was really wanting an OLB in the first round.....though, my main guy Beasley was gone when we picked.....

OLB's- Fowler went 3 to Jags. Beasley went 8 to Atl. Bud Dupree went 22 to Shiters. Shag Thompson went 25 to Car. all in 1st round. We picked at 12 & 19. Kruger should line up not to cover anyone at either end. Needs to look at who possesses ball than tackle..

Are any of those LBs doing anything decent? I know it is only 5 games into their careers.

Fowler blew out his knee on the first day of the offseason. I feel bad for the Jags.

It's early....but they are outperforming our OLBs....all have more sacks & tackles than Kruger or Orchard or Mingo or Solomon....which, right now, doesnt take much to do......

Given that any member of the browns board has as many sacks as mingo orchard and solomon combined, and is only a half behind kruger, not saying much.

I really hope Pet just gives up on shoehorning thse 3-4 people into his scheme. Just go to the base 4-3, trade Kruger and draft Bosa. We could have a front 4 next year consisting of the Bryants, Shelton, Starks, Meder and Bosa. If we pick up some really good LB'er that we can flash a 3-4 at people from time to time, you can move Bosa to the 5 tech..it's what they do with him now at OSU. Do this. If we can't get Bosa than at least move Kruger back to his 4-3 DE weight. Maybe if him and Armonty can get back into the low 280's we can have some edges that can fold in the running lanes or maybe even throw a lineman or TE off them every now and then and make the tackle.

I disagree with basically everything you just posted. If you switch to a 4-3, Kruger is set as a pure DE.

If you draft Bosa, you play him as a 3-4 DE - he's basically a JJ Watt clone, so put him in the same place. Shelton is a nose tackle, almost exclusively, so asking him to play 4-3 DT is a waste of his talents.

Like it or not, that's the way we're set for the next few years, building around Shelton, Cooper and Orchard.
