Judging from the jersey sales, they are.

Because Real Browns fans go out and buy the jersey of a 21 year old fucktard who hasn't proven shit, or even shown he's in the right league.

Half those jerseys were sold in Texas, the other half were sold to 12 year old boys .. and you, Walter and a couple other gay guys who like his girlish size and diva attitude.

So I guess all the guys saying they were going to get Shelton jerseys weren't real Browns fans.

You know he's not a real "bad boy", right? Real bad boys don't "flip off" guys, go to rehab and throw water bottles.

Bad boys drink tequila, shit fire, fuck your wife, and don't explain anything.

IF, they throw something ... it's not water, it doesn't happen at a country club pool, it's not at a 18 year old boy, and they don't miss.

By the utter reaching you do in order to dump on him (this post itself being a good example) I'm surprised this hasn't happened. Also, at least to everyone I know, tequila is regarded as a pretty feminine drink.

So just to be clear: when he's getting drunk, sleeping with women like Wilt Chamberlain, and not explaining any of it (2012-2014, only 2014 being relevant to you), he's a huge prick and should straighten out, but now that he's clean he's no longer a bad boy.

But you admit to wanting him to be good without being a bad boy, yet are not satisfied with his current state, even though by your own admission, he's no longer a bad boy.

What a tangled web we weave.

But to your point: we played Sam Houston State who is a notoriously dirty team that tries to cheap shot/injure opponents and talk a lot of trash. Johnny took the opportunity to teabag one of their defenders as he was getting up after trucking him into the end zone.

    07d3bf3bcf5929dffcdb68aa7fa43b2c.jpg

Against Rice when some kid was mouthing off to him, he mouthed off right back and pointed at the scoreboard, almost getting ejected IIRC.

    johnny-manziel-flagged-for-taunting-john

Also against Rice (suspended the first half for selling autographs), he pantomimed signing an autograph after some Rice player mouthed off to him.

Here he is doing the PAT.

    johnny-manziel-extra-point.jpg

These are just off the top of my head. I only said he needed to keep his edge ON the field, and I'm sure he will. Sorry he's failed to live up to your definition of a "bad boy" (even though for a page and a half you argued things with the premise that he was).

I see the water bottle incident as a non story and give Manziel credit thus far for having a much better work ethic. I don't see him beating out McCown to start this season. The direction the Browns are taking seems clear:

Early signs point to Josh McCown being unchallenged as Browns starting quarterback

Moving the chains: The first week of Browns OTAs was a revelation of where the team is going offensively and who is going to lead them. Their aim is to control the ball on the ground, have the quarterback manage the game and keep the defense in favorable situations.

The job description for quarterback is a modest one and must be embraced, not challenged. He must be willing to play within the structure of a conservative game plan. He must be content to “live for another down” and not try something daring to make a play by himself.

This is why the Browns signed Josh McCown, a 13-year NFL veteran who has played for six teams, and why McCown has been virtually anointed the starting quarterback without even the hint of a “competition” in training camp. It is why Johnny Manziel – tortured enough by his own personal recovery from an unspecified substance abuse problem – is a fish out of water in his second season with the Browns. Manziel didn’t become Johnny Football by handing off or flipping the ball 5 yards to a back in the flat.

The Browns aren’t trying to reinvent Manziel. They are, by all appearances, moving on.

It’s Josh: It all makes sense already, the Browns’ aggressive pursuit of easy-mannered McCown. Brian Hoyer was in a different stage of his career, still determined to prove he could carry a team, too edgy to go with the flow.

McCown, soon to be 36, knows his place and his limitations. “My focus is just how good can I be at decision-making,” McCown said before the Browns completed their first week of OTA practices. “Just holding myself to a high standard, where it never puts us in a bad situation and the defense is always playing with favorable fields. That’s what I hope people see as we move into the season.”

In 12 NFL seasons, McCown has never thrown for more than 2,511 yards and more than 13 touchdowns. When he found himself in surprising demand after a disastrous season with Tampa Bay, he was more attracted to the team with the strong offensive line than one with flashy receivers.

“After being with them, 5-6 weeks, it’s like, had I known it was this good I wouldn’t even needed to take a (free agent) visit (to Buffalo and Chicago),” McCown said of the Browns’ offensive line.

While many quarterbacks chafe at the job description of “game manager,” McCown embraces it.

“Yeah, man, look, that stuff doesn’t bother me,” he said. “I’m trying to win … we’re trying to win a championship. Call it what you want to call it. I just want to win football games.

“That’s my main focus, and it’s to protect the football, keep our team in manageable situations. I know the perception of it, but I think every quarterback to a degree has to be a game manager. He has to manage the football game and some guys have different skill sets that dictate the way they do that. I understand who I am and how I want to go about winning football games, and that’s the key for us.”

Brian Hartline stands firmly with new Browns teammate Josh McCown

Brian Hartline minced no words in defending quarterback Josh McCown from naysayers on Tuesday.

Hartline's feelings toward the critics (including some media) came on a conference call after he signed his two-year contract, and can be summed up in this sentence: "Anybody that wants to bring in a veteran guy like that and believes in him, if you are a fan of the team why wouldn't you trust the coaching staff and what they are trying to build?"

"I know he's looking forward to establishing some roots here in Cleveland and I am excited to work here with him," Hartline said. "I think a lot of what the coaching staff thinks so if they are good with him, I am good with him."

He admitted he asked about the Browns long-term plans at quarterback -- but even in addressing that issue Hartline veered into McCown praise."I inquired," Hartline said. "Any kind of decisions that they want to make and our conversations can be kept between me and the coaches. With that being said, we've got a great veteran pro's pro in Josh McCown, and I think a lot of his game.

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Troubled Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel threw a water bottle at a heckler in an incident that didn't lead to any arrests or charges at the AT&T Byron Nelson golf tournament.
Manziel had been turning away autograph requests from the fan for about two hours Saturday during the third round when an exchange escalated in the pool area of the Four Seasons Resort where the PGA Tour event is held, Irving police spokesman James McLellan said.
The water bottled missed the 18-year-old male, and someone who was with Manziel pushed the fan, leading officers to intervene, McLellan said. The fan declined to press charges, and McLellan said no police report was filed.
Manziel, the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner at Texas A&M, was recently released from a 10-week stay in rehab and is going through offseason workouts with the Browns. He's expected back in Cleveland this week.
McLellan said there was no indication Manziel had been drinking.
In November, a Browns fan alleged that he was attacked by ''Johnny Football and his entourage'' at a downtown Cleveland hotel where Manziel was living at the time. McLellan said it wasn't clear what caused the latest incident to reach a point where Manziel responded by throwing the water bottle.
''He threw it toward him but it missed him and I think it was just as much fault on the part of the person that was heckling him to escalate things to that point,'' McLellan said. ''Johnny didn't really have any kind of a complaint to make. If he did, he didn't say anything.''
The Browns declined to comment on the incident, and his agent didn't return text messages.
Manziel had a rough rookie season after the Browns drafted him 22nd in the first round in 2014. He was the backup to Brian Hoyer most of the season and played poorly in two starts. Now he's the backup to Josh McCown as he tries to prove he deserves a chance to be the starter.
The 22-year-old Manziel hasn't spoken to reporters since his release from a facility in Pennsylvania that specializes in issues with substance abuse. He has faced questions for several years about his active nightlife and was repeatedly photographed drinking alcohol during weekend trips to Las Vegas after he was drafted by Cleveland.

Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, is overreacting about Manziel. Johnny Manziel is a competitor and a heck of a good QB. He could be on any NFL teams roster right now. We should be happy that we have a QB like him waiting to get out there and take control of this team. That is his goal and that is our hope. It will happen. Last year it was Hoyer's team, there is no question about it. Since the McCoy handling on the QB spot with Weeden and everything else, when Hoyer showed that he was capable and then went down with an injury, it was his team... everyone knew that. When they drafted John Manziel is was expected that Hoyer would be the starter barring an injury or supreme excellence from Manziel that proved otherwise. When Hoyer hit the wall and Manziel was called on to get in there, he did so with limited reps with the starters. Manziel will win the Starting Job by week one and get his shot. McCown is an insurance policy that was necessary to have, Johnny may need more time, he may sustain injury with his 'never say die' demeanor and his ability to make plays on the fly with his legs. McCown thus has a task of always being ready to step in, to mentor Manziel in the ways of a veteran QB(which is something Hoyer would not do because he wanted the job for himself). That is the end of the story. Manziel is our QB, suck it up and accept it and shut the fuck up, it is what it is..

They're not wrong, they are just in the minority.

I don't want a bad boy quarterback. I don't give a shit about a person's off the field antics - good or bad. I want to stop bargain basement shopping for game managers. Game managers don't find extended postseason success. For every Trent Dilfer you name, I can name 10 Colt McCoy's. For every Brad Johnson, there is a Matt Cassel.

Game managers only work if you have a top 5 defense, a top 10 rushing attack, and great special teams play. If one of those go to shit, you can't rely on your "game manager" to do anything more than manage to lose.

I applaud the effort of the front office for having a sack of nuts and going after Manziel. If he turns out to be shit, he turns out to be shit and we go for another QB. But a bunch of drunk old hypocrites in a forum aren't going to have any impact on that whatsoever - all they do is continually ruin the overall mood by thumping their chest any time this guy gets photographed not studying his playbook.

This is worse than DA-BQ. At least that was a competition. This is just people rooting for a guy to fail with no heir apparent currently on the roster. To me, that's even dumber than rooting for the guy to win, despite his "bad boy" persona.

Also, I find it hilarious that there are people on here chastising the kid for being an alcoholic, then they turn around and post about how much they drink in a given day.
