How does a tender elbowed QB ever hope to survive the reps an NFL starter takes week in and week out?

Kind of the way 20 game winners survive overuse in the playoffs/world series. They take care of their arms between games. You know. Things like icing them down, multiple new therapies, etc.

I can't believe you of all people can think this is really a problem for him. He had it on occasion during training camps for college as well as sometimes between games.

I don't remember ever hearing about a sore arm at A&M. I might just be forgetting, but a sore arm is worrisome. It's not like he has tons of time to get better or rest it. I hope you're right, though.

The baseball analogy does not hold.

At most, starting pitchers pitch-rest-throw-rest-pitch... a four-day rotation. More often today they go on a five-day rotation getting an added day's rest before their throwing day. And then there are "pitch counts". In the playoffs going on "short rest" means they move from their normal five to a four-day schedule. And at series' end sometimes "all hands on deck" calls mean they'll be asked to pitch on their throwing day.

By contrast NFL starters get one day off a week plus a light day on their final-practice/travel day. Normal practice days starters get upwards of 80% of the reps. So in pitcher terms the schedule would be: pitch-rest-throw-throw-throw-throw-throwlight-pitch.

Established QBs can and have taken second days off during the practice week. Developmental QBs can't afford to...

In that light a history of a problem cured by rest is an issue.

That you have such a February face,
So full of frost, of storm and cloudiness?”

    Much Ado About Nothing?

  • What worries me about this situation is thinking back on other quarterbacks who are supposedly hurt and being held out of game play long past the time they seemed they felt ready to play. Quarterbacks one could assume not in good stead with the front office your coaching staff and who eventually disappeared.

  • Well, McCown is the starter anyways. I'm sure JFF will be ready and able by opening day.

  • ^^^that's all that matters in this chicken little world. Wilson's heeling water will be out soon. Now I will rejoice in some Devilin Egg Salad sandwiches if Chicken Little has Laid any Eggs?

  • Based on McCowns game last week vs Johnny there was a chance for JFF to push for the job. I believe at a minimum they would have gave him a full quarter with the ones in the TB game. This "little" elbow issue is bigger than some of you think.

Yeah, nothing to worry about, just can't throw a football for three weeks.

We are one thumb against the helmet, one center stepping on an ankle after the snap, one non contact knee injury by McCown, to having to start a QB who is basically a rookie and can't throw a football during the week without his elbow falling off....... or even better yet, having to start Thaddeus Lewis.

    See now?

We get either Kyle Orton or Jake Locker to come out of retirement?

Likely ready, but less able than if he'd played in the last two pre-season games...

Nope. He is second string. No one here likes him much anyways. So what is the big deal again?

Apparently reading comprehension is not your strong suit!

  • If we can still compare to Baseball. This is exactly what happen to the Bad News Bears when Amanda went down to "Them Damn Yankee's" Einstein and Engle Bert blew it. Buttermaker is now coaching at USC. And damn we need Tanner at QB, sorry Aggies..

  • Here's what I think.

The Broncos have the following 4 qbs in camp:

    OFFENSE

NO NAME POS AGE HT WT EXP COLLEGE

    2 Zac Dysert QB 25 6-3 221 2 Miami (OH)

    18 Peyton Manning QB 39 6-5 230 18 Tennessee

    17 Brock Osweiler QB 24 6-8 240 4 Arizona State

    3 Trevor Siemian QB 23 6-3 220 R Northwestern

They are really impressed with Siemian, a rookie. Fat chance they put

him on the practice squad? Maybe I'd take a serious look at bringing him to the

Browns. They had him in for a look before the draft, but he is a developmental

    young qb, they say.

And, if they keep Siemian, with Osweiler coming into his own at #2 qb...

if they release Zac Dysert... I'd nab him. He broke Rothlicksboogerrapist records

    at Miami.
