Oh weird. I read it the first time but now going back I can't access it
Womp womp waa. At least Jax read it (maybe) and was interested in food stamps.
Last time l looked into it food stamps (or SNAP benefits) was a relatively small portion of the federal budget. I just did a quick comparative analysis, and that’s still the case.
SNAP benefits cost about $1 billion a year. Definitely not insignificant. However, a B-2 Stealth bomber costs $2.1 billion per unit, so for the cost of half a stealth bomber, we can feed all of our poor people.
I know it’s the chic thing to do to get down on poor people as a drain on our society, but it’s a really small drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things.
I’ve shared this before, but l grew up poor, single mom with 2 jobs and all that shit, and she still relied on food stamps to get by, and l’m eternally grateful for that and have put in the work to pay it back, and l think l’ve done that tenfold by now and still working at it.
The last thing you want is desperate people living among you. I truly believe that. It’s not pretty and it bears plenty of shame, but government assistance programs like SNAP curbs desperation and helps people get on their feet, and that’s worth more to me than half a stealth bomber.

Further, the welfare cliffs have created an incentive for people to stay below the poverty line to maintain these benefits - because if they make too much money, they lose this benefit but don't make enough to cover their existing expenses. There's a viral video this week of a woman crying because she got a job but lost her section 8 housing benefits and she feels punished for trying to do the right thing. The government has screwed up the incentives here.
Unfortunately, a large number of the people using it are scabs who aren't trying to do the right thing like this woman did. There are a bunch of videos going viral of middle-class Indian immigrants where they are bragging and making videos explaining how to get free food from food pantries and how it saves them money. The whole system needs to be rethought because certain populations will take full advantage of it with no effort being made to improve their lot.
You get so close to actually understanding and blaming the right people and then your propaganda programming kicks in and you blame illegals.
Illegals are absolutely contributing to the decline of the American working class via supply and demand. Minimizing this problem is a huge blind spot of the left. My landscaper was pissed because he hired a legal Mexican guy to help him get on his feet. This Mexican then opened up a competing business with a bunch of his illegal cousins. They offer to mow a lawn for $30 a pop, and the average American landscaper simply cannot compete with that. Americans are rightly pissed about them being here.

I’m aware of the “welfare cliffs”, and l get both sides of the conundrum. It’s a big ask to expect poor folks to make significantly more money to make it more rewarding than not to be off assistance, and from the govt’s perspective they obviously have to draw a line somewhere. I heard a decent idea about that, where instead of making people instantly ineligible for benefits, start a downward sliding scale where they get weened off over time. Regardless, l think it’s a necessary thing to maintain a civilized society.
I actually don’t fault middle class people for taking advantage of food pantries. I used to volunteer at one and honestly time, not supply, is the biggest limiting factor. I assume every city is a little different, but food pantries around me is an incredible network of churches and other non-profits, grocery stores, restaurants, and other food producers, and the amount of food that comes in is an embarrassment of riches. We couldn’t get it in hands fast enough. Literal truckloads of apples, potatoes, entire pies, Panera bread, etc. So much of it spoiled before we could find takers.
And honestly, food pantries get some swanky stuff that not everyone knows what to do with. Delicata squash, exotic juices, and paneer cheese comes to mind. Those Indian immigrants are probably among the few who can put paneer cheese to good use.

I'm going to have to strongly disagree with you there on the level of blame placed on illegal immigrants. Even in a world where their existence is causing the issue having the SS round up any vaguely Hispanic individual, throw them in a concentration camp, and then deport them without due process isn't solving the root cause of the issue. If you're bleeding into the floor cuz your leg is cut open wiping up on the blood on the floor doesn't solve the issue. Politicians, mostly lawyers, don't do shit to resolve root causes. Maybe because surface level blame games are better to rally the base. Maybe they just don't get it. I wouldn't blame illegals. I'd blame our immigration system, the business exploiting them, etc.
Even then, I'm placing the blame on those in power and policies leading to an ever growing wealth gap in this country. It isn't left vs right, it's top vs bottom. Democrat elites are responsible just like Republicans. Wedge issues exist to keep the masses distracted. Much easier to point at a "lower" class and tell people they're causing all of your problems. Blacks. Muslims. Immigrants. Trans people. Etc. Yes, the Dems have blame, but there's clearly more blame to the right at this point. Go on stage, say "transgender" a few times, whip them into a frenzy, and then give you and your rich friends tax cuts. I won't dig into the people falling for it, either being gullible, victims, idiots, or all of the above.
I'm not worried about illegals. I don't fall for the rage porn our MAGA friends consume. I'm more concerned about getting justice against the Epstein class and reworking the policies in this country leading to a widening wealth gap, increasingly unachievable financial goals for the youth, and a general sense of helplessness for younger generations.

If you stop the flow of illegal immigrants, you just solved the root cause.
Pretty simple.

Weren’t you just razzing me about the overuse of the term “word salad” like a week ago? I agreed with you, lol.
I get what Woody is saying. There’s a culpability factor greatly contributing to the “illegal immigrant problem” that’s coming from higher up on the food chain. There are enabling forces that came from high up, and in a sense many of those immigrants are victims of the specter of opportunity.
It’s kind of been our dirty little secret for a while now, for decades actually. We saw the “mismanagement” of the border under Biden, but was it really mismanagement?

They don't care about a good or bad point. They don't care about facts. They only want to hear what they already agree with. Of course, if you take time to provide them facts and data you're met with ridicule, Facebook links, anecdotal rage porn, etc
Again, it isn't left vs right, it's top vs bottom. Anyone caught up in rooting for their team, caring more about "owning the libs" than solving a problem, is a moron and a pawn for those in charge.

You don't get to falsely frame this, you learned this from watching too much fake news.
It actually most certainly is left vs right this time.
Biden allowed the illegal invasion, even encouraged it, and Trump shut the border down and is now trying to deport the illegals.
The left try to become sanctuary cities.

Bullshit.
This isn't a victimless crime.
The higher ups you mean like Biden/Harris? Hell yeah they are also part of the problem. You really didn't specify this whole 'forces from higher up' lol, like throwing out random phrases means anything. Did someone cross into other countries and drag them over? Or maybe it was the allure of free Biden t shirts and phones.
No one is above the law, remember that cute slogan from the left?
These illegals know it's against the law to just come here otherwise they wouldn't be swimming across rivers or stuffing trailers like sardines.
Damn do liberals love to pass on responsibility and accountability.
They aren't victims, they are criminals. That's what people are when they break the law, criminals.

You’re fired up tonight Jax. Raar.
“Forces from higher up” boils down to money and influence. We have entire industries that have employed illegals for years. And my guess is they got their hooks into Biden and here we are. So sure, be mad at Biden, but save some of that anger for the fat cats behind him.
I suspect there was a method to the madness. We’ll know in time. I never bought the theory that it was for votes. I just think we needed more bodies in the working class.

Like l had credibility to begin with. True statement though.
Voter fraud has been a recurring hot topic for years now. There’s so many eyes on it. It’s under the microscope which is where you want it if you’re really worried about mass voter fraud.
And honestly, there’s plenty of data out there that shows once immigrants take the steps to gain citizenship and the right to vote, they don’t always vote democrat.
That’s my theory. The motivating factor was just filling shoes.
How many news stories have we seen about illegal truckers? Two dozen?
Why do we have so many illegal truckers? Who is hiring them? Where are all the American truckers?
That’s just a microcosm of the right questions to ask.

There is no study or evidence or wide spread voter fraud. Right wing think tanks have looked. We just have little anecdotes here and there, sometimes not even tied to voting, out of 100+ million votes.
Voter fraud is a Trojan horse / ammunition used by the right as justification to pass voting restrictions. Right wing policies, in a vacuum, are not popular (we know this through polling), so the right has correctly identified their best bet is limiting the number of voters. The less people voting, especially those more likely to vote Dem, the better for them.
We should be making voting more accessible. Our voter turnout sucks.

***another woodpecker stinking up the forum FART***
The woodpecker doesn't worry about illegals' violent crime because the woodpecker, and most all? lefties live per their own feelings. They don't have any respect or love for anything or anyone else, because they don't respect or love themselves. So they sit back and bitch and ridicule, make asses of themselves, and they tend to overcompensate about every issue, every moral norm, they revere making themselves feel better about themselves, mostly by ridiculing everything else.
Patriotism, our military, Christian churches, morals, everything great about our America - they deride it to try to FEEL like they are superior somehow.
Well, tens of millions of Americans do worry about the damage the 12 years of obaMao/biden radical hacks like I described did to our country.
Somehow, in America there is a large subculture of perverted losers who, like the woodpecker, do NOT give a damn about what is wrong.
Illegal violence....men in women's sports.....rampant collections of "homeless mentally ill people/drug addicts.....sex trafficking, drug trafficking....anti-everything that is normal and good about American human beings - they don't care. How they personally benefit is all they live by. If they don't benefit - they use assistance programs, they use words "violently" more and more viciously, because they don't get a free ride that would make them feel better about themselves.
Social media seems to be part of it happening, leftwing educators is part of it, and leftwing gov adds fuel to the fire - because that subculture is so big now, it can be manipulated to win elections.
It's a lot like the black community - they were struggling after slavery way back in the day - and they were constantly told to this very day by manipulators that their struggling is because of those white folks, because the white system is "keeping them down" etc etc etc.
It's very similar to the palestinians blaming the existence of Israel and all Jews for their dire poverty.
But the truth is - it is all a lie. History is easy to use to show that the palestinians' hatred of who they are not - is why they have destroyed their future since recorded history started.
And the black communities - so many black folks are getting sick of being manipulated, only to have the same poverty in their existence after decades of believing fake sympathy from democrats. That poverty ends up being of their own making because they voted democrats into office again and again.
The left has seen it happening, so ...they opened our borders and started doting on the illegals to the point of helping them get a free ride with gov services meant to help AMERICANS IN NEED. To the point of continually releasing them from jails/courtrooms back onto the street - all to curry favoritism from the illegals.
Illegals were their new voter demographic to win power and control of American taxpayers wealth. Thank GOD we all elected Pres Trump to FIX America back to being AMERICA.

oh, and about voter fraud? the lefties change definitions of words to suit how they feel. They change words to fit their twisted self-interest.
"man made global warming" became scientifically proven NOT to be some kind of rallying movement to fight extreme crisis.
Climate changes, sure. So they changed it to "climate change".
"NO VOTER FRAUD" became "WIDESPREAD voter fraud".
and when 500,000 mail in ballots go to the wrong people, when dem strongholds mail out mail in ballots to everyone on their voter registrations rolls - they fight like hell to keep deceased folks, relocated out of state folks ON THEIR VOTER REGISTRATION ROLLS. and they are now fighting to give illegals the right to vote, and they have registered them in those places.
So they use "widespread" to excuse it happening. 10% fraudulent voting can win a close election. but it isn't "widespread" eh?
Lefties are sick and twisted birdbrains like you know who.

You just lost all credibility you ever had with " I never bought the theory that it was for votes"...
Two dozen?

No one here has a problem with the people taking the correct steps to become a citizen, before they break the law by coming here illegally.
Although in my own opinion, we've created such a mess in this country that we need to halt all immigration until we get this country in order. Any specifics beyond that is a novel.
