I know that sounds over the top but thinking back to the DB/KR Justin Gilbert the Browns drafted in 2014 in round 1 from Oklahoma State was a disaster. One of the guys on their Coaching staff said he was shocked nobody from the Browns wanted to know about his character, work ethic or practice habits. That may or may not have been within the 1st time Andrew Berry was here. I will say the success of this year's draft may be a sign that Berry and staff might have done some quality improvement - not to sound all Corporate America but it wouldn't suck...
We'll see. That sucks that guys like Fano, Mauigoa and Dunker are all RTs even though we desperately need one of those too. Goosby & Lomu are both LTs. Miami's senior LT Markel Bell is 6'9" 345 lbs - he took over as the starter this year so he might be someone with good upside. Did I really just type that about a 6'9" prospect? We'll have to find out more about him during the CFP.
Gilbert was drafted during the Ray Farmer era, Berry was with the Colts at that time. His first stint here was in 2016-18, then he did a year in Philadelphia before coming back as GM in 2020. Funny thing about Gilbert was that Brandon Weeden said something similar, that if the Browns would have just asked him about Gilbert once he would have warned them about his ex-OK State teammate, but they didn't.
My dream scenario is to end up with the 2nd overall pick again, trade down, pick up a haul again like last draft and take either Lomu or Goosby... then with the late first rounder/our high second rounder/new high second rounder take another Olineman and perhaps two WRs. Within the first 40 or so picks that would be going hard in the paint for your two biggest weaknesses.
That would allow you to possibly invest in some defensive soft spots like cornerback and DTackle in the mid rounds.
