In the owners meeting today they are going to discuss changing the IR so that if a player is placed on IR before or during the preseason they can be put back on the active roster by the middle of the season instead of having to sit out the whole season.

@cdl15 said: quinn to the cheifs. one handoff to hillis from him would be epic It is interesting. I always thought Quinn was a savage pick and not a Crennell guy. So, Im surprised to see him go to KC and RAC. But I cant hate on them. I wish them well, except when they play the Browns. Anyone else thinks with the way KC might be a much much better team this year and could be a dark horse? Eric Winston is a huge pickup.

@harry-buffalo said: When is this guy going to stop being hired as an OC. He is terrible. I like how Crennel is getting another shot at HC cause at least he is a good DC, but Daboll hasn't ever shown anything in the OC department and he still keeps getting jobs. Someone inevitably has to take a fall when a team sucks. That's why he keeps getting jobs.

@gips said: Our defense has several needs i see both of our olbs as ineffective and unable to hold their ground most of the time and it often causes jackson to get targeted as he shifts out of position to go left or right to help out, while dqj is not great at shedding blocks we are only as strong against the run as our weakest link and that is gocong and fujita on the outside and mitchell on the end.. Lets not forget that usama young is no tj ward either and after tj was injured our run defense instantaneously got worse.. Both fujita and gocong not only fail to set the edge they both miss simple containment tackles way to often when on rare occasion they do penetrate.. It gets old watching these 2 guys get blocked out of the play with unparalleled consistency.. I couldn't have said it better myself.

@rich4eagle said:Well the BCS is crap.............the Purple Raiders play their way to championships every year..............and the BCS is really Bullshit Crock oh Sheet Yes, it would be nice to have a real playoff, wouldn't it. Now, instead, the teams in the title game have a 6 week layoff. I am convinced that hurt OSU in their two most recent title game losses. I don't know if they would have won, but I don't believe it would have been so bad.

@atenears said: Interesting ... so I googled it, and you are correct, Hillis did return Punts, but take a look at what else came up on this arkansas bio of him: <<< OUTLOOK: One of the most versatile offensive weapons on the roster, Arkansas suffered down the stretch in 2006 when Hillis wasn’t available due to a deep thigh bruise. A punishing blocker, a powerful runner and a natural pass catcher, he will most likely be utilized at fullback, H-back, tailback, tight end, wide receiver and punt returner at some point during the upcoming season. If that isn’t enough, he may return to special teams where he was dominant on the kickoff coverage team early in the 2006 season. Rated the No. 1 fullback in the nation by Phil Steele’s College Football, he was also recognized as the best blocking back in the Southeastern Conference by The Birmingham News. He will help clear the way for Arkansas’ stable of tailbacks and will get an opportunity to get his hands on the ball out of a variety of formations. He enters pre-season camp as the Razorbacks’ top fullback and a prime candidate to return punts. >>> Source It appears he may have some history with thigh bruise? I don't know if bruising is something you can look at and call a 'history", but what the heck, maybe a little more dense foam padding in addition to the normal padding is in order....it's not like Hillis is a speed back where the additional padding might hinder his game to any significant degree.

@professor_g said:But what surprised me the most was that Grossi had a number of things to say about the team and coming season that I hadn't really thought about. I've really enjoyed his writing lately-- and I've been a big critic in the past. He also has a very nice season preview write-up on the Browns in the latest issue of ProFootballWeekly. i agree. i've noticed grossi being more objective lately and even optimistic at times.

@professor_g said:Mary Kay has just tweeted: "Browns sign 6 to practice squad: DB Asante, OL Fanaika, DL Ivey, OL Murray, DL Sanford and DB Smith. Browns had waived all on Sat." Asante and Ivey are insurance policies- I' wouldn't be surprised at all to see them on the regular roster by the end of the season.

@mopaji said:What he did here on this team, in this situation is extremely encouraging. 1. Hakeem Nicks WR, Giants – 790 2. Percy Harvin WR, Vikings – 790 3. Jeremy Maclin WR, Eagles – 762 4. Mike Wallace WR, Steelers – 756 5. Kenny Britt WR, Titans – 701 6. Austin Collie WR, Colts – 676 7. Michael Crabtree WR, 49ers – 625 8. Mohamed Massoquoi WR, Browns – 616 9. Johnny Knox WR, Bears – 527 10. Louis Murphy WR, Raiders – 521 Thanks. I also think that MoMass's production has to be looked at relative to the passing offense that he participated in. Nicks, Harvin, Maclin, Wallace and Collie were dropped into passing offenses with QBs that have been to multiple pro bowls and won superbowls. I think most of us would agree Lee Evans is a pretty good receiver. In Buffalo's stagnant offense he had fewer receiving yards than MoMass. That almost all the first and second round picks were productive (minus Heyward-Bey), doesn't reflect real well on Robiskie, but I'm not without hope. Brian Hartline was very productive in the Dolphin's mediocre passing offense and you'd have a hard time convincing me that he was or is as good a receiver as Robiskie. His 40 time was ever-so-slightly better than Robiskie's, but Robiskie had some of the best 20 yard shuttle and 3-cone drill times of any receiver in the draft. Hartine and Wallace did very well in these too. A lot of scouts think these are more indicative of receiving success than straight line speed. He also had a sick 38" vertical.

@bob806 said:Wow...I can't believe I overlooked this thread. My take is simply that there is so much parity, especially in the AFC, that it's hard to pin down a "worst division." You have Indy & San Diego, then quite a dropoff to Cincy & New England. I think there's no argument- Cincy qualifies as the best of our division (6-0 in division games). They nearly beat the Chargers out there yesterday...if Carson Palmer gets it together, they could make noise in the playoffs. The Steelers are still alive, but they won't go anywhere because of their O-line. The Ravens feast on lousy teams, still have hope, but aren't going anywhere either (if Haushka makes that FG vs. Minnesota, their season might have been different). In the AFC East, Miami & the Jets are similar. They are good enough to scare a team in the Wild Card round (Cincy or NE), but Indy or SD will destroy them. Actually, I predicted the Jets would be 7-9 after they got Braylon, so at least one of my predictions can come true this year Denver is doomed- I think we may witness history as they were 6-0, and probably won't even make the playoffs. AFC South- Tennessee is a team no one would want to play, but they aren't a legit contender. Jacksonville will lose to the Browns on January 3rd. Houston is schizophrenic, like the Jets. In the NFC, I think Minnesota is fading...it's going to come down to either Arizona or Philly @ New Orleans in the NFC Championship. Dallas is a long shot, but can could get hot. Green Bay is a pretender. The rest of the NFC (yes, even the NY Giants) blows. The gap between the very good teams, and the good/average teams, has never been greater since the league went to 32 teams. Also, the amount of totally crappy/lousy teams has never been greater. Go Browns, perhaps the best of the totally crappy/lousy teams OAKLAND was crowned Best of the worst bu Cowherd today. Good case there as well. Fact is the Talent level in the NFL is so High that rising from the Bottom to the top is no longer all that amazing. Get the right management in place and You have a Shot at Glory quickly !!!

I think the issue for Lerner is quite simple. You can't go back in time and you made a committment to Mangini. You gave him a terrible team and asked him to start the rebuilding process. Has he been perfect? No. Does he deserve another year? Yes, because nobody could have accomplished it in a year. Does this team need a really good GM? Absolutely. So (Mr. Lerner) stop making mistakes and go hire the best GM you can find and afford. Give the GM control of the team with the understanding that the coach needs a chance to prove himself for one more year. That condition does not apply to the players or other coaches and we should definitely get ourselves a new OC. My biggest crticism of Mangini is the handling of the team's new players. This was a throw-away season and all the newly drafted players and developing players should have seen more playing time. If I were the coach, I would have made that trade with the Giants for Edwards, immediately started both Robisiki and Mass. Immediately named BQ the starter and stuck with him unless injured. Used Harrision and the rookie RB instead of Lewis. Etc. Our record woudn't be any different but at least our players would be developing and we would know if they could cut the mustard by year-end.

It's good to have especially in the off-season but the commentary on the Thursday night games is horrible and the audio on that channel is 6 billion dB higher than any other. I don't know if anyone else noticed but their audio during the live telecast of Thursday night games is not quite synced.

@professor_g said:How much of this ineptitude on offense is really on Daboll's shoulders? This past game made it clear to me that the right side of our line is a joke, and I'm guessing that's mainly about skill level at those positions, not about schemes or play-calling. This past game also brought further confirmation to suspicions that our quarterbacks completely suck as far as accuracy goes. What I'm interested in: Were there bone-headed calls on offense this week? I've seen some in past weeks, but I actually liked the variety of calls this week. And the focus on quick, short passing plays-- what else are you supposed to do with Quinn and that line? Variety? All I saw were a ton of bubble screens and quick outs! There was no variety other than to run each play to the left and to the right. A variety of plays would be to not wait until the last possession of the game to throw the ball more than 20 yards...or to actually run something other than Cribbs running the ball out of the WildDawg...or to actually give the ball to the receiver on the end-around more than once out of the fifty times the play is run. That would be variety. Not running the same short passes over and over and then trying to get Jamal to actually run the ball more than 2 yards at a time.

@atenears said:I can't stand Grossi and think that he is the #1 cause of all the negativity among Cleveland Sports, I think we should revolt against him and boycott his little cry-baby rantings. From the Bill Belichick days, and through the move, Grossi has been a whiner. He then kept all of his old contacts at the Ravens and displayed front page Sport section stories of Art Modell kissing the Lombardi trophy. Story after story came about about the ravens front office while the Browns were just getting started. I kept thinking to myself, "Who the hell cares about the Ravens, here in Cleveland???" Grossi should write for the National Enquire. KSHutchins is exactly right, it has been all vague reporting to-date. No facts, not even references to fact. Grossi don't know shit, and is on the outside looking in, with no donuts being supplied him for free in Berea, so he resents the regime. If the guy was such on the 'in' then where was this reporting in the off-season or in week #1? Grossi is an abulance chaser. Go Browns! F-Grossi! Put up or shut-up Tony. Baltimore needs a negative reporter and hater ... go apply, you're perfect for the position. dick Agreed! He's like a dumb sports fan with a Twitter account. He is all just personal opinions from "unnamed sources". I went to school, I know how these things work. As long as you say "our sources tell us" you can say whatever you want to. Legally, you don't have to reveal your sources and Grossi never does. I get better and more accurate information from this board than from the PD or WKNR.
