So much for no drama and no distractions.

Do you think this slide will refocus him? I mean if not, what was the point?

Check this out. I don't normally watch or listen this guy Jax; but I'm glad I did here because it shed some light on what was causing the free-fall in this case.

From the sounds of it, Sanders would have something along the lines of a 4 year/$4.5 mill contract?

Rumor is that Carson Beck, formerly of the U of Georgia, will now QB for the Miami Hurricanes this coming college season for a cool $4.3 mill.

Wow!  It'll be interesting to see what Dillon Gabriel gets considering he was a 3rd round pick...

Just sharing an observation l heard on a sports radio program this morning. The observation was that Sanders had only been coached by his dad since he was in pop warner. I’m not sure l realized that, but it begs the question how will he respond when he has to deal with different coaches who likely have different coaching styles?

At some point... Daddy has to "let go"

This is a great point and I think can be handled by someone with emotional maturity.  Can Shedur do that?  Big question mark.

If you'd told me on Tuesday that the Browns would get all of Mason Graham, Shedeur, Carson Schwesinger, Q, and Dylan Sampson during this draft, I'd not only give that haul an A+ I'd say your optimism is a bit uncomfortable to be around.  And at the end of it we also walked away with the TE and an extra first next year.

And the way I look at the extra QB instead of a better 3rd rounder and loss of other late rounders is this.

    1. We would not have a quality DT Like MG

    2. We would not have two 1st rounders next year

    3. We would not have had 2 high 2nd rounders this year

So to me it was well worth not taking Sanders #2 overall and it was worth the chump change to move up in the 5th to get what should have been a 1st round QB. My only regret in this draft is not addressing OLs better.

The more I look at this draft - I'm not nearly as upset as I was yesterday about the Offensive Tackle boycott.  @dutch-ovenlet me know the Browns were trying to trade up back into the 1st round to get LT Josh Simmons. I'm good with that - because the Browns drafted a lot of guys I really liked.

That - or your buddy Flugel forgot to take his Prevagen...

The post draft info coming out paints a picture that the Browns FO had a plan, and it accounted for contingencies and l think they did a good job executing it.

Cam Ward was plan A if he fell to #2. If he went #1, they had the trade with Jacksonville already lined up.

They wanted to move up to get Simmons, but when that fell through they grabbed their MLB of the future.

I suspect they didn’t anticipate Sanders’ free-fall, but who did? I doubt he was a part of their contingencies but when they saw him drop to the 5th round they went for it.

Because of the low intensity celebration in the Browns war room after the Sanders pick, people are saying that Haslem made them do it.

I noticed pretty low intensity after most of the picks.  This was a no brainer in round 5

So, I went back and rewatched what I could find of the Browns War Room after the picks.  After the first pick they smile for the camera.  After the 2nd pick they're laughing at what is going on on the iphone (perhaps the drafted player's celebration)...but pretty much after that they were all quite subdued celebrations...as if a little something since the cameras are there recording.

So, I agree, the war room reaction should not indicate it was a Haslem pick.  I think that it just came down to the point where, hey, Shedeur is available here in the 5th round.  He and his entourage have been beaten into a humbled status.  Is it worth our 5th & 6th round picks to throw him at our biggest need in the organization?  And the collective answer came back as yes.

Drafts can take on a life of their own.  They can start twisting and turning...and before ya know it, what went around comes back around in a little different light.

The War Room reaction may also have been intention. They're not going to treat Sanders like any special pick.  He's a day 3 selection, minimum investment.

So if he acts out of turn, doesn't appear committed or gives the coaches grief, it's nothing in terms of cost, draft capital and personnel investment to cut him immediately.

It's a great way to setup the understanding of the power dynamic.   The Browns staff is saying that we run the show, you're a late draft pick and that's it.

  • The reaction to the Shedur pick is completely overblown.

The FO/Coaches spent months preparing for the draft.  The week leading up had to be massive amount of office time and time away from their normal life in settings outside of the football field and then three intense days smiling for cameras meeting new players.  After all this I’ll cut them all some slack if they left out a fist pump

My issue with Sanders isn’t his physical attributes, it lies between his ears.

I think daddy played a big role in his mental development…or lack there of.

I believe the Browns said they wanted “an adult” in the locker room when they dumped Mayfield. ?

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Him becoming a 5th round pick will fix that, if it doesn't little loss in dumping a 5th round pick.

It’s not so much the wasted 5th round pick, it’s the clown show that will likely follow.

I love old sayings.  They make so much sense.

The hope I have is that he's now come to the realization that he's coming into this league as a 5th round pick.  Lots of other QB's were picked before him, including one selected 2 rounds earlier on the team that finally drafted him.  No matter who his Dad is, he's going to have to prove that he shouldn't get cut at final roster cuts.  He's never had to face that before.

We don’t really know that. I remember Deion Sanders best as a baseball player. Played for my Reds a couple years. Not a superstar on the diamond but he could definitely steal some bags. These are just the memories of a kid mind you.

I don’t know where this narrative of Deion as an overbearing father came from. I’m sure there are quotes and memes, but l haven’t followed it all.

He was a cocky mofo for sure on the field, you kinda have to be. And he parlayed that in to a broadcasting career. But he also took the time to invest in his kid, and normally we would see that as a heartwarming thing.

Deion knows what it takes to make it at the highest level of a couple sports. I don’t understand why he would spend the time to coach his son only to sabotage his career. That doesn’t make sense to me.

Coach Prime wants to be a part of Shedeur Sanders' first official meeting with the Cleveland Browns, scheduled for this week to discuss Shedeur's future role with the team.
"I have a few theories about why this happened, but I'm not going to give y’all a headline. I'll address the current situation and correct it as needed; I promise it will be handled accordingly. Shedeur don’t take no backseat to any QB."

  • You know, the more I think about it, the more I think the Browns might be addicted to QB drama.

I just have to remind myself that he's just a fifth rounder.

    Catch and, if needed, release.

But Deion also knows what it takes to make it in the NFL and l don’t see him as a guy who would jeopardize his son’s chances, especially with how the draft went down.

Of course he doesn’t think he’s jeopardizing his son’s career, but it is painfully obvious he and his son have turned off people every place they go.

When Will Howard meets with Mike Tomlin next week, will Ryan Day be in the room with them? Will Will Howard’s father be there?
