So, man made global warmng- "ice caps are melting! we are all goin to die..." again, NONSENSE

  • Jesus I was reading that and I thought it was just AI. WTF is a "climate scold"?

I also think it is hilarious that climate change deniers constantly mention the climate has changed in the past, as if anyone is disputing that.

But the attack on expertise in this country continues. Every single climatologist across the globe is now clearly just a liberal shill. They're ALL in on it, all paid for by Biden or something. Ridiculous.

I'll have to look into the data later. But decades of ice loss and then an "anomalous" ice gain for a few years, specifically in that location, doesn't disprove climate change. Deniers, as evidenced by this board, love taking one specific thing, misinterpreting it, and then using it at reason to ignore the mountain of evidence on the other side.

Antarctica, that icy continent that encompasses the South Pole, has been a source of panic for the climate scolds for years. It was, only a few million years ago, covered in temperate forest. Now it's covered in ice, as the world is a chillier place than it once was. Yes, the planet's climate does change, and through most of Earth's history, it's been warmer than it is today.

Nevertheless, climate scolds love to loudly proclaim, "Antarctica is melting!" The problem is, it just ain't so. We have discussed this problem with the climate scolds' focus on the southern island continent before:

Our southernmost continent is, we’ve been told, the suffocating canary in the global coal mine. The more ice loss in Antarctica, the greater trouble we’re in. So what do we make of a study which found that between 2021 and 2023, there was a record-breaking increase in the Antarctic Ice Sheet?

We mark it down as another in a long line of misses from the global warming zealots.

“Notably, four major glaciers in the Wilkes Land–Queen Mary Land region of East Antarctica reversed their previous pattern of accelerated mass loss from 2011 to 2020 and instead showed significant mass gain during the 2021 to 2023 period,” says an article in SciTechDaily summarizing the report from Tongji University researchers.

How could such an unanticipated event happen?

“The study points to anomalous precipitation as the primary driver, suggesting that natural variability plays a significant role in short-term ice sheet changes,” says climate site Watts Up With That? It also “underscores the complexity of Antarctica’s ice system and the pitfalls of oversimplified climate narratives.”

    Forgot to insert this

The whole “growing ice sheets” phenomenon could be interpreted a couple different ways in Antarctica. The phenomenon of global warming has been a thing for a few decades and theoretically we’ve been doing things to mitigate it, so this could be seen as a “see guys, the things we are doing are working!” type thing.

Based on what I've seen we're nowhere close to that yet.

And I'm also realizing I'm feeding into what you do desperately want... Me to reply to you. That's depressingly clear across every thread I post in...

    But the ice is growing!

It astounds me that the concept of global warming has such magnificent legs. That’s a news term for a storyline that captures attentions for a long, long time. Here we are in the Trump part 2 phase and it’s still a hot topic for people who don’t read the articles they post. It’s so captivating it’s not even worth reading about.

I’m open minded about it all. So open minded that l don’t even have much of an opinion about it. It’s complex stuff and there is no sense of urgency to have an opinion on it.

I already consider myself a conservationist. Clean air, clean water, parks and wildlife, l’m into it. And so are all of you. We’ve had these discussions.

It’s weird to me that global warming has become this strange sticking point to make us think that we don’t all want the same thing.

    Politics.

The science and experts will tell you we need to make some real changes to avoid serious consequences down the road

Those changes will impact certain powerful lobbies, like oil and gas

Those lobbies fund politicians that will prevent regulations and push for "free market" policies that allow the companies to continue to make money

Those politicians push views to their constituents and you get the politicization of a scientific issue

If that’s your hang up about global warming then those things aren’t mutually exclusive. You can be pro, anti or ambivalent about global warming and not be supportive of giving money to the EU. You can be not in favor of giving money to the EU simply because you’re not in favor of giving money to the EU.
