5 QB’s In The Room

The guy who traded him away?
Any other Berry in the FO?
I hope you understand I wasn't serious with that comment...at least 100%, but I am a bit down on Berry. I wouldn't be 100% shocked if he did.

Of his first 6 throws, 4 are absolutely on shedeur. The OL wasn't incredible, but when I have side by side footage of Shedeur and Gabriel, with the latter properly executing the concepts decisively... it should be very cut and dry that he had a rough day.
He played like someone who doesn't have a good grasp of the offense.
He reminded me of Baker in his second season, when defenses made adjustments to him and it was on record that he put in little work in the off-season leading into the season. The second either thinks their might be pressure, they haul ass out of the pocket and all hell breaks loose.

The bulk of the time it was either him not starting his eyes in the right places. In one throw he was late to his third and in another he came off of his primary too quick after his slow processing removed his outlet throws on previous drives.
When he did have the read, the OL wasn't up to the task. On 6 throws, I count twice. So thats 2/3 on the rookie, 1/3 on the OL.
He had his eyes in the wrong places a few times in game 1. But his scrambling allowed him to work off script. The Rams flipped that script and this is what you got.
The Baker association doesn't feel like it's about not knowing the offense, but it does remind me of a direct quote from Baker who was talking about his improvement as a QB in year 3- the biggest was where he said he was starting his eyes. This is a shit ton like that.
But the media blame is the bigger issue. We're so quick to blame and say it's either this or that. It's a little bit of everything. A rookie having a really off game, an Oline that struggles every few snaps. Struggling to find rhythm or something good. I know that doesn't drum up the bias and arguments like people want, everything is an Us v Them narrative and it's shameful on top of being fucking exhausting.
What I watching from the offense under Shedeur reminded me of a clip from the Replacements...
I see people playing hard, but not technical, not sound and not smart. You're fighting hard and being buried.

Well question is when will they cut/trade in Watson?!

Oh you meant those Replacements? Really well said.
For our O-line protecting our 40 year old QB, this one goes out to you.

Probably next offseason
Maybe. Depends on if they can and want to take the massive dead cap hit in 2026.
Ain't no team trading for him with his contract

That is true, there isn't a team that's touching him with THAT contract.
I won't lie and say I understand the ins and outs of the salary cap, Unsympathetic is good with that. I do think that next year the Browns will be paying their other QBs very little (possibly the QB room in 2026 is three guys on rookie contracts) so with Watson being on his last season of his contract next off-season, they might just bite the bullet.

Perfect. The Emergency QB designation. And if they want Sanders to go in at the end of a blow-out and just mop-up, they'll just have Flacco & Gabriel run up to an official, swear their heads off at him, and get ejected.

Gabriel changed his number from 5 to 8. I didn't like #5. I've never been a huge fan of #8 either.....but if you turn it on it's side then it's infinity....which is cool.

I was kind of surprised that there wasn’t a run on quarterbacks wearing 16 after Montana retired back in the day, but Jake Plummer is the only guy I remember.

And I'm surprised we haven't had a run on #2!!?

That's good. That famous T-shirt listing all the QBs that failed in Cleveland since the 80s has so many names on it now that it prolly comes in Tent Sizes.

Flacco, Gabriel, Sanders. Zappe ends up #3 and Sanders gets traded for a bag of practice balls.

I don't think that we really know how much Sanders sucks. But we DO KNOW how much Zappe sucks.

Zac Jackson: “If this were a first-round quarterback, you might think about playing him now, right? But you made the decision to go with Joe,” Jackson
. “Why is Joe here? For his experience, for his calm, for getting guys in the right positions. You have to give him a chance to do that, right? And if guys are still not getting open, not catching the ball, or not running the right route in a couple of weeks, you can explore that. But the reality is, you’re about to go to Detroit, you’re about to go to London to play Brian Flores, and then you come back to play in Pittsburgh. So, I would let Joe take those punches.” -
While calls for a quarterback change grow louder, former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar is urging patience with the current situation.
“I think it would be torture for a young quarterback out there. I mean, look, I want to see him play, but it’s hard. It’s hard in the NFL—even with loaded teams. And this team, I’m not picking on it, but it’s not loaded. To put the young guys out there right now is sinful. If you want to see them fail, that’s how you do it. You’re going to develop bad habits, you’re not going to believe in yourself, your eyes are going to drop, and you’re going to start hearing the demons. It’s too early.”Kosar
