To Shedeur, or not to Shedeur? (draft)
-
no, Sanders is elusive and slow to read the field, slow to take off - he is like Lamar's pet rock. Just kiddingl
i was kinda going with the doesnt seem to intelligent, football wise give him a line and someone to throw to, fucking see what happens, its not like we are going to be good next year anyway, well unless sanders go's wild
-
We will probably see Shedufus.
Nice enough guy, just dumb as a stump.
I totally concur Peen... I see a few minimal flashes of brilliance in a few rare moments... But nothing that makes me think... "Smart" .. "Elite".. But as you go through the course of a season..you expect to see major jumps in key areas of ones game... He often misses the hot read opting to hang on for the hero play.. Then winds up going 20 yards backwards... I don't want to render him dead.. But I'm not hopeful.. I wouldnt be surprised though.. if Dillon is still here to see Dillon pass him up... And thats not saying much...

Drafting a Franchise QB is the hardest thing in sports and the Browns 2.0, under three owners, 9/10 GMs and 12 Head Coaches have been the worst at in the last quarter century.
This scenario popped up, hopefully they aren't this stupid. We're so close to the end of the Watson disaster.
The shitty OL & WR rooms that would occur if we traded away all those picks just to get one more QB with no supporting cast.
-
ok smart guy, regale me with some tales of who will be our qb next year ? are you just gonna jump up and shit one out ?

You gotta love when objective stats and information is met with this sort of response.
To your question? Statistically any starting QB in the NFL this year would be an upgrade, so any of them that are available? See if Rivers wants to hop on the saddle again?

Well Shadeur Sanders had himself a trial period.
1. He's better than Dillon Gabriel
2. I don't think he'll ever be a top ten QB
If I was the incoming coach I certainly wouldn't feel as though he was the guy I was going with come hell or high water.

I'm guessing a lot of people agree with you. I think there's only 2 upper 1st round QB prospects coming out (if Moore decides to) - otherwise we're looking at 1 QB the Raiders SHOULD draft with the NYJ holding 5 first round draft picks combined for 2026 & 2027 to tempt them into a possible trade for the only major QB prospect that the Raiders, Jets, Browns and others didn't scare back to making millions of $ in college football. I do know this - the 1st year Aaron Rodgers was a NYJ he only took 3 snaps before he was placed on Injured Reserve.
I'd be lying if I told you just 7 starts behind the 2025 OL while counting on a WR Corps with Jerry Jeudy as WR #1 gave me enough to tell what he can be or never be. BUT, I'm just a fan like you and others with an opinion. FWIW, the last few starts by Flacco here looked awful until he went to Cincy and threw to their WRs with at least some reasonable opportunities from the pass protection.
All that to say this doesn't appear to be the draft for a franchise QB (after Mendoza is picked); so the Browns can address major weaknesses at OTackle and WR to help whoever earns the QB job next year. The OLine situation and WR Corps isn't any more football sexy to a new HC prospect than the current QB situation...

This is worth sharing here:
Mind you, Sanders didn't face a total defense ranked above 12th (Bills) and included the Bengals (30th), Titans (28th), Raiders (25th) and Bears (23rd). This is a worse QBR through the first series of games than notable Browns QBs such as:
-Deshone Kizer
-Cody Kessler (trust me on this one)
-Dorian Thompson-Robinson
and many more.
The "but what about talent" argument falls pretty flat to me considering Kizer, for example, was on a team that won 1 game in two seasons. I am not, in any sense of the word, a Sanders hater. I would want nothing more than to look at the body of work and think there's a franchise level QB in there somewhere if everything else was better. I am not an expert at this stuff, but every metric tells you that's just not true. I think the ceiling, at maximum, is a back-up caliber player. There's no head coach signing up for that.
Don't like QBR? See below:

ya dude we get it, you do not like sanders, so are you going to re post this on every thread just to make sure you get your point across ? fucking dimwit

It isn't disliking Sanders - it's how he has shown limitations/weaknesses that are concerning and longstanding, including in college. It's just who he is. And I see him as being a backup qb, not anywhere near a franchise qb. Some things can be developed, some things - are just always going to be a problem.

True enough, but take the case of Josh Allen. Huge difference between his rookie/second years and later on once a real excellent QB developing coach worked with him. And like Allen, Sanders already has that long distance arm required of an NFL QB. Allen was 49.9 and 49.4 QBR his first two years. He also had 10 TDs and 12 Ints his rookie year but better the second, but far more sacks. Sanders needs the same kind of opportunity with a really good QB developing coach. God knows he never had one at Colorado. And he has slowly come along in the few games this year despite almost no support from our fired HC. Allen had almost two full seasons to develop with 12 games as a rookie and 16 the next. I was watching a mock draft of the first 6 for 2026 and Mel Kiper is a firm believer that Cleveland already has a QB, but what he doesn't have is a decent team to support him starting with WR and then OL. Now I disagreed with him that Tate should be their 1st choice. He doesn't have WR #1 speed or separation IMO.

Josh was a top 10 pick, not a 5th rounder.

Pat Shurmur may not be a good NFL HC, but he's recognized as a solid QB coach.

Couldn't eye roll you harder here if I tried.

Kiper thought Jimmy Clausen was a franchise QB. Just tossing that one out there.

Most had Sanders as a top 10 pick as well, but teams did not like the trash his daddy was spewing out there pre-draft.
What did he say about Allen? That's more to the point.

Oh, he just picked him #1 overall. ?

I don't know how this will turn out with Shedeur; but once again - it's a pretty weak draft class ahead. FWIW, here's his college stats when he actually had talent to throw to.
YEAR COLLEGE GAMES W-L YARDS YPA CMP% PASS TDs INTs RUSH TDs
2021 JAX STATE 13 11-2 3231 7.8 65.9 30 8 3
2022 JAX STATE 13 12-1 3758 7.7 70.5 40 6 6
2023 COLORADO 11 4-7 3230 7.5 69.3 27 3 4
2024 COLORADO 13 9-4 4134 8.7 74.0 37 10 4
And here's his inability to put out the Dumpster Fire in Cleveland carrying over from the 3-14 record the year before he arrived. As for this past season - the Browns were 2-8 before he took over as starter with a 3-4 record per Google below. HOWEVER, I am aware our defense did all our scoring in the last game with a little help from Shedeur on the final drive and his stats were never great this past season. That said, the eye ball test had a lot of people happy when the change from Step Stool QB to Sanders was made. I'd just like to see a much better pass protection in front of him this year with an upgrade to WR before I join the doom and gloom getting more popular by the second.

The NFL has tolerated spousal abuse, accomplice to murder, and just about everything in-between. If Shedeur was the product that "most" had him as, then he wouldn't have fallen as far. Some GM somewhere would have said "Yep, it's worth the headache for the talent". Yet, that didn't happen until day 3. So when you say "most", you mean the entertainment media, not those running franchises (they aren't infallible either though)
Keep in mind, I was an advocate for the Browns drafting Shedeur. Up until 3 weeks before the draft when I finally got the all-22 and then my draft grade on him changed.

It is a different circus. The circus is the Family persona. The intimating father figure (this doesn’t seem to be nearly as bad now) but his dad had a Christmas list of teams. This all pointed to could he play nice as a backup because he would inevitably be a backup his rookie season and perhaps beyond.
Add to it, Deion the HC was considered an HC with options beyond his gig at Colorado that was until this year. Those options included bigger programs and maybe just maybe the NFL. Not a major concern but one you consider as a GM and HC of a team that is drafting his son.
I didn’t think he was a first round QB but I don’t think he’s a fifth round QB either.
