You asked why Mensah is falling down my board. Long winded, but this might help.

First camp in the books. I'll be back tomorrow, and then another couple dates next week (unless I snag tickets for Friday)
The big stuff you're probably wanting to know.

Not sure why, but I've ignored short form content on Youtube & Facebook until the last few days.
That will change moving forward.
So for those of you that aren't about twitter, but you have Facebook and/or YouTube, by all means, give a follow/subscribe.

The play was designed to go to Corely. That's where Sheduer was focused. It's supposed to be a timing throw. The problem was Corely ran right up to the defender. The receiver has to button-hook that before he gets into the defender's lap so there's a little space to fit the ball in.

Button Hook
So the play design is to the trips side. Something I'd prefer Shedeur, along with a lot of young QBs, to challenge themselves to work progressions over there more. Too often these young QBs, my biggest knock was on Dart last year, think they get 1 on 1 to the X and just rip it.
The result is very boom or bust.
The matchup side, the "solo" side is Corley. QBs can be given some freedom in pre-snap adjustments to their X. Based on the level of trust & coaching staff.
But let's use your strategy.
This was when Corley began his break. If he "button hooks" even solner than that, you're looking at being, bare minimum, 2 yards short of the sticks. Meaning he has to catch and create YAC on a hitch.
It's just not a prudent formula to success unless we're throwing to Steve Smith.
The corners, much like what we saw a lot last year, are sitting either +2-3 or "heavy" at the chains.
Corley did a fairly reasonable job working back to his inside shoulder, then getting back to an outside shoulder throw. The placement by Shedeur, to the outside, is correct.
But this pic is also proof that the timing is the issue. Shedeur should be in his throwing motion by this point - he isn't. So the two factors that compose the bulk of throw success, timing and placement, only had one met.

Yup, but running into the lap of the defender means no yards at all. The defender knows where the sticks are too. There was a favorable man to man situation there but the receiver didn't create any space. Would've been awfully risky to let that one fly earlier. Obviously Sanders and Corley don't have the pattern timing down pat. - 1st preseason game.

There are two ways to create space in this instance.
Break well before the DB, short of the sticks.
Eat Cushion, try to get the DB to open and/or get into his chest and disengage off that leverage.
You're saying the 1st one is a no go.
But you're saying the WR can't use the 2nd to create space on a hitch. This 2nd one is how we've been watching Denzel Boston create separation on the hitch all of camp.
We're going to just have to disagree with this one. Sure, it isn't Boston, but the timing is poor on a throw that is SBS.

Higher level Football eval here. I gave as much info as I could to help show people what it all means.
TL;DR - Watson fucked up. Then he was given the opportunity to redeem himself and, well, totally fucked up a 2nd time.

So on the INT he totally misses seeing the under cutting open shallow going L to R and just throws up a pumpkin. Hell even I can see the guy open shallow across the middle.
EDIT: Didn't Brady make a living isolating receivers like that and trusted them with decent YACs? That's why he had all those flea receivers doing the tough things.

Been waiting to see more of this. Coach Rut has brought over and is SLOWLY installing these structures for the defense. Got the best example of the pre-season so far with this one.

Sorry I'm way late. For those of you who would like an extended look at Arch Manning vs Florida on the All-22, I'll be live on discord, sharing my screen for a "rough draft" in about 20m

Got done watching 2 nights and 3 games worth of bad football. Top down, that Texas squad had some real problems last year. They beat up on lesser dreams and dropped against better ones (save for Florida & Kentucky) should have lost at least 1 more game.
For all the hype around Arch, I've found that it is unwarranted (so far) and he needs significant improvement to justify a 1st round pick. Right now, he plays like a Manning in name only.
Texas is a -1.5 favorite vs tOSU next weekend. I'm waiting for them to blow the doors of Texas State so I can get the Bucks at +2.5 maybe even +3.

Yup. That was a bad pass. He had a handful of other incompletes too.

The film on game one must not be bad (or Haslam rules)
