Whats 75 grand to somebody who makes millions? And IF the refs didn't have their heads up the Rooneys ass and threw the flag for the 15 yard penalty it could have changed the course of the game. Fuk shitburgh there fans and players

Stop whining. Stop pretending the 2005 divisional round playoff game was even close to coreectly called.

I love when Browns fans whine and cry after a big loss. They are just making it worse on themselves.

"If it's an illegal hit under the rules, then you're going to be held accountable. We get the pushback all the time that, 'What's a defender to do?' Well, we, in these situations, have to say the defender has to adjust his target area. The player has to wrap up. He has to do the things more fundamentally that we used to do ... when we used to tackle back in the day. We would like them to do more of that. But with the seriousness of the head and neck trauma and concussions generally, we've got a responsibility to just make sure that players understand and adapt."

      What? 😆

So the moron wants to go back to those days, LMAO

So lets forget about trying to injure players, lets try to kill them. Anderson is an idiot.

The Cardinals Darnell Docket believes Harrison's hit was a good, clean hit. Docket watched on the sideline as Harrison returned a 99 yard interception for a TD vs his team in the Super Bowl.

So you don't care that NFL players (players who if anything would have biased against Harrison) believe these fines/suspensions threats are BS and Harrison is getting fined for playing football.

As you just made very evident, you have absolutley nothing to say against Docket defedning Harrison. Docket has NOTHING to gain by defending Harrison. If anything he opens himself up to potential fines. He obviously felt strongly enough to voice his opinion and risk his own wallet to defend Harrison. And you have nothing of substance or meaning to respond to what he did.

Maybe you care that Hillis has to say:

Browns running back Peyton Hillis was quoted as saying, "They were vicious hits, no doubt about it. But you can’t blame the guy. That’s the name of the game. You just have to roll with the punches.”

I think the fact that Hillis is 1) a Browns player defending Harrison's hit and 2) an offensive player criticizing Goodell softening up defenses speaks volumes to how ALL the players in the NFL feel. Not just a select few hard htting defenders.

Ive seen Tedy Brusci talk multiple times today on how its BS that these players end up leading with their helmets trying to blow guys up. His argument is that "World Class Athletes" such as Harrison are conditioned and trained well enough to be able to alter their paths when going after these receivers. You can't tell me that the former Defensive Player of the Year and "best defender in the league" as proclaimed by some of you is incapable and not skilled enough to alter his target on some of these hits.

Even on bang-bang plays they have time to turn slightly and throw their shoulder instead of their helmet, or wrap a guy up easily (because he's "defenseless" and not paying attention) I've also seen many other players say that this needs to be done such as Rodney Harrison and a couple others I can't recall. These hits are already illegal, they're just enforcing them much stricter on a case-by-case basis.

I also hate the "It's football! Take off your dress because its all about HITTING AND CONTACT!". Well then lets screw all of the rules that promote safety... to hell with roughing the passer, fair catches, crack-backs, albert haynesworth stepping on peoples faces, crushing a punter who is basically doing the splits with no padding.

Times change, safety is important to keep these guys alive... get over it.

Should the NFL make a rule banning running backs from lowering their head to hit defenders? If defenders can't hit with their helmet how is it any safer for running backs to do it?

                  Agreed.

This is not about taking big hits out of the game. They will still happen. "Bang-bang" plays while unfortunate, will still happen. This is about taking big hits against DEFENSELESS players out of the game. On a running play there will be helmet to helmet on any of the linemen and the running back and tacklers. None of those guys are defenseless. Massaquoi was defenseless and he was hit in the head. It doesn't matter what you lead with. Hit to neck or head + defenseless receiver = penalty. It's that simple. Apparently this simple explanation is still lost on Steeler fans.

London Fletcher had a great hit on a defenseless Joseph Addai. No penalty called because he didn't lead with his helmet and he hit him in the lower chest.

Call it crying if you like. But the two plays (ward , shiply. harrison, momass ) had major differences. The ward play was a bang bang play and there was a flag thrown. On the harrison hit he clearly launched himself ( left his feet) Leading with his forearms and helmet and no flag was thrown. No one but a homer could deny that.

What no one is talking about it the reaction of Harrison afterwards. As soon as he struck MoMass he got up and acted like he had just saved the world. arrogant.

Oh my God. A defender celebrated a big hit. Unprecedented.......

And Ben Watson said it was horrible and Harrison should be fined the "maximum penalty" for a ridiculous hit... I don't care what my own teams players are saying when trying to make my mind up about something. I love my girlfriend but when she says "video games are stupid" I don't say "oh, I like her... so it must be true".

Runningbacks lowering their heads is a completely different creature... there's one guy with the ball and all the defenders know where he is and when he's closing in. When the back nears them they can brace and prepare to tackle him. When you HAVE the ball, there are 5 LBs/Safeties ready to blast you at any moment in the middle of the field and you can't know where they all are and can be blindsided, especially if you're a receiver with your concentration on a ball in the air.

Physics can only take you so far? These linebackers have been playing for YEARS and a lot of the time most of their lives, they can make adjustments to take down a guy without raising up to give their chin a helmet-uppercut.

While the guy he hit lay on the ground injured.....might not be unprecedented but no less a completely shit move by a guy $75,000 lighter in the wallet.

it's about leaving your feet and launching yourself as a projectile. half of these guys don't even know how to tackle, they just know how to hit. you see it in college all the time now. instead of trying the tackle the guy they throw themselves at the player trying to dislodge the ball or blow someone up. my friends and i comment on it all the time because half the time it's unsuccessful and the guy bounces off the guy with the ball and he runs for a touchdown. "why didn't he wrap the guy up and tackle him!" we scream. half of it is coaching and half of it is the defensive guy wanting to make the highlights by knocking someone out and being billy badass for a day. i heard someone mention that the league will start fining the organizations along with the individual offenders. good. and they should pass it along to the D coordinator and he should pass it on to the position coaches if they continue to coach this.

don't give me the old "THIS IS WHAT WE'VE BEEN TAUGHT ALL OUR LIVES" bullshit either. these hits were few and far in between while i was growing up. most players knew how to TACKLE and did so. sure there were some goons. how do think tatum felt paralizing stingley for the rest of his life? i gues with harrison's mentality he would laugh.

if you are not smart enough to relearn it the right way then get the F out the league.

harrison an average player? since when? Nfl defensive player of the year, 2 time super bowl champ, universally acknowledged as one of the premier players in the league, outside of cleveland of course. Cleveland hasn't produced a player of his caliber since jim brown. All that region could do was hurl racial slurs at him when he grew up there in high school.

Oh, don't be stupid. First, the guy went to HS only about 2 miles from where I sit. I could walk there from here if I wanted. If he was being thrown racial slurs it was by all the other African-Americans saying "N____ this or N_____that" just the way they do. There were plenty of other blacks at that school and in the surrounding area.

As for what he would be, like I said before, I think he is a system LB. He does well in that system. LeBeau makes him good. The test would be how he would perform elsewhere.

                              .

Enough with the system bs. What makes a outside linebacker successful? Speed, power, drive, football smarts. You can't teach any of those things. Implying he wouldn't do what he's doing outside of the Steeler organization is laughably short sighted and bias. You hate the Steelers, I get it and so do a lot of fan bases. Joey Porter did just fine in Miami and Pittsburgh pays the guys worth keeping and let's the other guys walk. Porter was cut loose because of Harrison. You'll never know how the top tier defenders on our defense will do in another system while they are in their prime because we pay to keep them around. When they take a walk it's either because they've lost a step or we have a better replacement.

Defensive player of the year is "average" and a "system LB" one of the funniest things I've read all year, seriously. I spit out my Dr. Pepper.

That should be and is completely illegal. No one is questioning why those hits are banned. It the fact that Goodell is fining and wants to suspend players for hits that will simply always be a part of tackle football that people are made about.

so how much is Massaquoi going to be fined? Here is why I am saying this. Check out these stills.

                                    pic1.jpg

Notice Harrison has his legs bent

                                    pic2.jpg

Now notice Harrison still has his legs bent. and Massaquoi is lowering his head, as evidenced by the obvious bend in his back from the still. Now here is the kicker, James Harrison is only 6'0" and Massaquoi is 6'1". This is a case of a linebacker lining up to make a hit at chest level, but the receiver, or ball carrier lowering his head to make contact.

That's the point. There was no place hit Massaquoi without being called dirty... Would you rather Harrison dive at his knees? Look how low Massaquoi was, at full speed mind you, when they collided. Had Massaquoi been standing straight up, that would have been a forearm-to-shoulder hit. Harrison didn't drive up through Massaquoi's chin strap like Brandon Merriweather did to Heap this weekend. Scott Fujita seems to agree the hits were legal.

Browns' Fujita calls league stance on hits hypocritical

Fujita - basically saying the league is being hypocritical for selling the big hit as part of the game, and now trying to suspend players for that big hit.

"The same league that's talking about fining players for these hits and talking about maybe now suspending players for these hits who pretends to care so much about our health and safety, let's be honest," Fujita said. "They don't give a crap. Let's be perfectly honest about that.

"Eighteen games is asking a lot. And 18 games now without even a discussion about changing the vesting requirements for post-career medical. It's pretty astonishing. Another thing, too. This league is talking so much about these big hits and how they're trying to prevent that and protect the players. Well these are the same big hits they're showing around the clock on every [channel], NFL Network and everything else and trying to get everyone hyped up about the game of football......

Well why are you advertising all of this stuff if it's against the rules? Same thing with some of these celebration penalties and everything else. They're fining guys like crazy for it and calling penalties, but that's the stuff they use to promote their games. So to me, it's kind of a weird deal. They need to get on the same page and figure out exactly what they need to do."

Fujita didn't feel the criticisms of Harrison's shots were justified. Fujita said even though people in Cleveland and around the NFL are in an uproar with Harrison's hits on the Browns' Mohamed Massaquoi and Josh Cribbs, Fujita said he felt like they were "pretty good defensive plays."

so how much is Massaquoi going to be fined?

Fujita was a team captian on the Saints and a Super Bowl champ as a starter. His opinion of Goodell's action carry a lot more wieght and are a lot more informed than any fan typing on the internet.

Fujita, Hillis and Docket of the Cardinals aren't Steeler fans and they have all came to the defense of Harrison's hits and opposed Goodell's suspension threats.

To some of you it's not about what's right and wrong. You will support anything that is harmful to the Steelers no matter how much BS it is. You will defend anything your team or players do no matter how wrong it was.

It's obvious the players are more concerned for the overall well being of the league, not just blind hatred or support for anything that would benefit them personally. I think it's great the players are sticking up for eachother becuase they feel it is what is right. They don't just ignore it because it hasn't yet effected them or because they might not necessarily like the person they are defending..

Goodell is forcing an 18 game season on the league and most players boldly oppose the change. Goodell is softening the league to justify putting the players through two more games.

It's just hard for me to me sympathetic toward Goodell's changes when players oppose it. Hillis is an offensive player opposing punishment for defenders making big hits. I think the fact that he is an offensive player holding the view point he does and defending Harrison's hits carries much more meaning than the fact that he is a Brown defending Harrison's hit.

"Hatred is gained as much by good works as by evil" - Niccolo Machiavelli "Expectation is the root of all heartache." - William Shakespeare "In time we hate that which we often fear. He said posters who write tasteless messages use football and the rivalries between teams as a way of getting out their aggression in a non-violent manner." Predicted 2010 Steelers record from this board: 7-9; 6-10; 8-8; 9-7; 10-6
