The draft is a gamble. Stick with the proven commodity in colt who is still growing and learning

OK, but that is another question altogether.

Since when has colt proven himself...

First round QBs are a gamble

You can hit or miss and set ur franchise up for success...or set ur franchise back another decade

Yes, but if you take the number of first round QBs against the number of 2d, 3rd, 4th etc. round QBs, you will probably hit more on the first round than in any other round.

More QBs get drafted in the first round than any other...that alone is going to skew numbers

Not only that but if you pay a qb first round money you are likely to give him time to succeed before cutting ties. Problem with that logic is that the browns have 2 guys that have proven already to be better than several former first round picks but neither of them will be given the same time to progress in this offense that you'd give a first rounder

In less than 2 full seasons of starting colt is already an above average qb in this league and that's without any help from his running game and WRs.

I would love to see any statistic that shows that Colt is "above average" at anything in the NFL so far.

He certainly had an "above average" offense to work with right?

With the PURE SHITSTORM that was the Browns offense this year, he had 16 tds to 13 ints. with no run game.

But no RG3 scored 67 points against Washington! He's already better than Colt!

People need to stfu about rg3

  • Great...16 TD's to 13 int's. How many TD's late in games against prevent defenses? How many wins did this "above average" QB lead us to?

He's servicable and not terrible but he's no where near being above average at anything except that he can take a beating.

But how in God's name do you expect anything better with the O of this year man? Actually, I bet you would've expected worse out of McCoy if you knew before the season what our offense would be diminished to.

If live gives you lemons, make lemonade. McCoy was given lemon seeds and a pitcher. Thats it. It takes more to make lemonade than that. Especially good tasting lemonade.

So can we give McCoy some sugar, water, a mixing spoon, a nice stand set up to sell it by the street, and an O-Coordinator? I think he's earned it.

You are clearly being the dumb one. Look at those players in the HOF. Look at who is named Pro Bowl, look at who is named All Pro. A greater percentage of the players designated as such come from the first round of the draft....and it goes down incrementally from there a you get to players in the lower rounds.

Yes, you are going to find the exceptions. Yes you will find a Brady in the 6th round....but you will need a first rounder to find a Manning, a Rodgers, a BR, a Flacco, a Ryan, a Newton, a Freeman, a Palmer, a Rivers etc. etc. etc.

Or you could find guys like Jamarcus russel, Tim couch, ryan leaf, Alex smith, akili smith, etc etc etc

It's different with a busted 4th round as opposed to a bust in the 1st round dude. The Browns need all the help they can get in other places besides QB. Which is why I hate drafting a QB in the 1st. We obviously need a top WR, DE, LB, CB, RT, and HB more than a QB in the 1st.

  • We need to get all the pieces in place then look for a QB.

I'm not the only one on here that's not on the R2D2 bandwagon. Thank you. Picks in the 1st should be a WR and LB

Nobody is saying hes already better than McCoy as far as im aware,i think they are saying he has a higher ceiling than McCoy...We pretty much know how good McCoy can be which is a good serviceable QB where if RG3 reaches his potential he has superstar capability..

16 TDs to 13 INTs is not terrible. McCoy only had 3 touchdowns in garbage time situations so even if you take those away it is 13 TDs to 13 INTs. And players don't win games - teams do..

I say use most of our early draft picks on building our offense (WR, RB) and draft a QB in the 4th round who can learn behind McCoy and Wallace. Then draft a QB higher in the 2013 draft if McCoy still can't cut it. But 13 TDs to 13 INTs with a crap offense tells me Colt might be able to go something like 20 TDs to 10 INTS with an improved offense. If not, it's not a big deal because we can still get better on offense without selecting a QB. The last thing I want to do is draft another QB that gets thrown in to start right away instead of being allowed time to develop as a backup. Rodgers, Brady, and Brees all had at least 1 year in the league before becoming a starter.. Rodgers had about 4.

  • A good QB makes those around him plamakers.

    Hines Ward- 3rd round pick.

    Emmanuel Sanders-3rd round pick.

    Mike Wallace- 3rd round pick.

    Antonio Brown- 6th round pick.

    Ben Roethlisberger- 1st round pick

    James Jones- 3rd round pick.

    Donald Driver-7th round pick

    Jordy Nelson- 2nd round pick

    Randall Cobb- 2nd round pick

    Aaron Rodgers- 1st round pick

    Pierre Garcon- 6th round pick

    Reggie Wayne- 1st round pick

    Austin Collie- 4th round pick

Anthony Gonzalez- 1st round pick. (hurts my argument a tad, but I'm presenting all the facts)

    Peyton Manning- 1st round pick

And then there's the Patriots, with no 1st round picks at QB or WR. What they do have, however, is two first round and two second round Offensive Linemen. (Thats for you, Ghoolie)

I like the thought that went into this however a first round QB does not a winning team make... for every qb taken in the first round that succeeds there are three that fail.... How good were the rams this year? And how much of the 49ers success can be put in alex smith's hands? David carr / ryan leaf / matt leinart / jason campbell / kyle boller / jamarcus russell...the list goes on and on just because someone takes a qb in the first round doesn;t guarantee their greatness one more year use this year to find the playmakers not the QB...

  • With murphy's law in full effect in brownstown and all the changes and the lockout this past year it is really hard to give an accurate assessment of colt mccoy or anything else..

What was easy to see is that colt struggled and played like the rookie he kinda was in a poorly installed system that did not seem to fit him well at all, we saw this regime "observe" mangini era WRs that most of us had already evaluated as likely busts and we saw a newbie HC that had not even but briefly met a few team players, and that had to prepare and implement a system with only film to evaluate the roster and attempt to work out the live bugs and poor fits in under 3 weeks due to the lockout..

Without making excuses, this past year for browns fans and the organization alike was the worst kind of accumulation of things that could possibly go wrong and they almost all did..

Things went so wrong that is hard to accurately evaluate anything other than our WRs suck, shurmurs playcalling sucks, we now have no running game, colt as well as others did not fit or adjust well to this system and the fact that it will take another season to evaluate anything else of any real relevance..

On a positive note jauron and his defense were impressive at times especially before tj ward got hurt, we are only a few players and some learning time away from having a great if not elite defense..

Do you have any idea what I was talking about? Please don't respond if you're not going to pay attention

All draft picks are gambles...but why gamble on a position that is already somewhat secured. And why waste time tryin to develop some rookie when you could spend more time developing talent where you actually need it

  • ^^^^ this all the way. The browns will not waste a no 4 pick on a QB. We will draft the LB kavil or whatever his name is, then Kendall wright with the no 22pick. Great first round

  • @tim-couch-pulls-out said:

Flacco, Tebow, and Smith were all first round draft picks.

I don't understand the point you are trying to make.

Draft position does not denote talent in the nfl

Best guard in the league was a 5th round pick

Reigning MVP was a 6th round pick

    Most consistent WR went undrafted

Don't pretend like the reason you need a QB is because colt isn't a first round pick

    Don't be that dumb

No, I'm presenting stats and facts to show that a majority of the QB's deemed "great" or "franchise" QB', and are routinely playing in the postseason are first round picks.

What you are doing is being a blowhard front running cockgoblin masquerading as a quasi-Browns fan when in reality you are only here because you were kicked off most Saints forums due to your lack of intelligence and homoerotic fantasies.

It's your turn. Pick up the dice, dungeon master. This time, try to at least use a little bit of statistical information to back up your shitty opinions about a mediocre QB on an awful team.
