I didn't say 1 guy. One guy isn't going to help that much, unless he's a coach or QB. For the Browns to get much better they will need 1 guy from each positon list you have. That will add up to big money
Well with a first and third round pick coming from the above list, a couple of slots should be filled. And with a FA or two you do the rest.
I think if we can get either a killer OLB we can perhaps live with the DEs we have. Or vice versa.
And I also think that we could live with the OGs we have.
The primary slots are that CB, and FS and either a DE or OLB.
Three defenders. Need them.

How is this for a plan:
If the Browns have the #4-5 overall pick, they trade it down to say 10-12 with the Arizona Cardinals who will be desperate for a QB. Only KC is more in need of one. The Browns get back at least the Cardinals #2 and #3 round picks which should be about #42 and #75
With 10-12 they pick Barkevious Mingo or Sam Montgomery to fill their OLB/DE need.
With #42 they take either David Amerson or Jordan Pryor at CB
With their own 3rd round pick they take OG Larry Warford.
With about #75 they take either of the FS Kenny Vaccaro or Tony Jefferson
Thus they have filled all their primary needs in the first 3 rounds of the draft.
This of course is predicated on the continued policy of not obtaining top FAs, but that is a big assumption.
Or...would all y'all just prefer to say "Take either Jarvis Jones or Dee Milliner and forget the trade?
-
Yea, but he is an Ohio guy that went to Michigan....so he sucks just for that....though maybe not for all the other things you mention.
wait im saying Woodson was great,, and he is in a whole different league than jammer..
Plus he is much better looking
-
Woodson is pretty much a butt ugly looking dude. But maybe a chick like you sees things from a different perspective.
The sky is blue, water is wet, women have secrets.

It all sounds good, but haven't we learned, a young, inexperienced team, like the one we have now, isn't going to win many games?
They keep saying "Build through the draft" Well when you have 27 rookies or 2nd year players, and VERY few veterans + an aweful coach = 3-13.
Let's get some veterans, a better coach and see what we can do. Rookies are fine until you have to rely on them to play a lot. Holmgren NEEDED all these young guys, to justify his 5 year plan. Now that he's leaving, lets get some experience and winners here. And the young guys can learn from them

Well here is the key.. If the new owner goes the college route like chip kelly or someone with no NFL experience my quess is we will keep the young guys and not sign any veterans.

Great. and we will go 4-12 again.
No i don't think we will. I am betting 7-9 next year but my prediction is tied to the coach they hire.

Sean Smith MIA: Will resign
Quentin Jammer SD: Over the hill
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie PHIL: Will resign

Safeties:
William Moore ATL: He may hit the market
Dashon Golsdon SF: Same as moore
LaRon Landry NYJ: You don't want him his play is no where what it used to be. He's a gym rat and that's about it.

All speculation on my part but most of the guys you mentioned likely aren't going to hit the market. I obviously added my portion to all the above players.
-
Oh and Jammer is no where close to as good as Woodson, never has been and never will be. I agree two completely different animals.
-
Yeah I agree that a lot of them will re-sign... I'm sticking with my plan I brought up in a different thread... Overpay for Greg Jennings on a 4-Year deal (really the only way he'd come here), grab Michael Huff (who most definitely will be cut with a four million dollar bonus, and grab a OT/OG guy, I think I went with Charlie Johnson from Minnesota.
Looking at this, I don't think San Francisco will pay Goldson what he wants, so there is a possibility that he will hit the market.
The only way to get a marquee free agent is to pay them more. If the Browns get Goldson and Jennings by overpaying and then grab a few guys to round out the roster, I'd be happy with that in addition to another quality draft.
-
We need three FA's, if we go Jarvis Jones in the draft like im hoping for, i can see us snagging one of those CB's (any would do as theyre all dramatic upgrades to what we have) we can also grab a FB and G out of the FA crop, draft a TJ McDonald or Bacarri Rambo in the third and a DE in the 4th and if Weeden preforms like a top 15 QB next year we're playoff bound!!!
-
i always dug that name....quentin jammer.
too bad he sucks.

Well here is my view.....in another year this team WILL have "veterans" on its roster. Young veterans but veterans none the less. Haden and Ward will be in their 4th year. Jackson and Rubin will be time tested vets. Taylor will be in his third year along with Sheard. On offense you will JT/Mack time tested, Pinkston and Lauvao in their third and 4th year. Little in his third year. And all the rookies on the team this year will be in their second year.
Remember if you will that Bernie Kosar took the Browns to two AFC title games in just his second and third seasons.
So, if this team can bring in quality rookie talent at the FS/CB/OLB positions I think we can handle things. I mean, what if say a Jarvis Jones plays like a rookie Von Miller? I would take that.

No, I understand that probably as high as half of them will stay with the current team. Nevertheless it is still worth speculating.

Bernie's teams had proven veteran LEADERS. Clay Matthews, Carl Harriston, Bob Golic, Ozzie Newsome, Cody Risien, Hanford Dixon.
Do you see (other then Joe Thomas and Phil Dawson) ANYONE on this years team that is a proven veteran leader? I do not. And don't say Cribbs. He is not a leader. Proven veteran yes, leader, not even close

Alex Mack and Aytahba Rubin and DQJ. Sheldon Brown should be but ain't good enough.
Ben Watson should be.
At least, these are the "Veteran" players on the Browns....and should be leaders. Are they. Some perhaps, to some extent.

my first pick right now, even with how bad CB play has been (remember haden has missed 5 games) you have to jump on a guy like jarvis jones. literally.
