I really hope you're right πŸ™‚ I'm new to this NFL malarky so it's difficult to distinguish absurd rumour from absurd fact - everyone was saying in the summer that Lombardi would be a ridiculous hire by Banner but it still happened.

If nothing happens on our D-line for the next 5 years I'll probably be quite happy, we seem pretty much set.

You are new to this NFL malarky? Just curious, what does that mean? That you are like 10-12 years old? That you are from Europe or somewhere and are used to following other sports?

Or that you are just now getting into discussion about player personell and how they are acquired, be it draft, FA, trade, etc.

      1. Will any of the FAs be kept in your opinion? Should any be kept? Should resign Ventrone, going to need good special teamers with Cribbs gone, wouldn't be upset if they kept Sheldon Brown. Will they? probably not.

      2. Aside from those FAs who else should be given the James Bond ejector seat treatment? Marisuck,Cousins

      3. Which positions do you think should be shorn up in either FA or the draft? a guard, possibly another true inside lb,safety, corner, fullback

      4. Are there any positions you think the Browns are set at and need no further acquisitions? I like our young talent at WR,RB,DL

      5. Are there any questions I haven't asked that should be?

How about instead of the whole roster, we look at the starting lineup first

        QB - Weeden

        RB - Richardson

        WR - Gordon, Little

        TE - Cameron, Davis

OL - Thomas, Greco, Mack, Lauvao, Schwartz

        Subs - FB - Smelley, WR3 - Benjamin

        DL - Taylor, Rubin, Bryant

LBs - Kruger, Jackson, Gocong, Sheard

        CBs - Haden, Owens

        FS - Young

        SS - Ward

Subs - NCB - Skrine, DCB - Wade

        Biggest holes?

        CB2 and ILB

Players I'm not confident with having them as a starter?

        Sheard, Young, Lauvao, Smelley

        Where are we set?

        RB, WR1, 2 OTs, LG, C, 3 DLs, 1 ILB, 1 OLB, CB1, SS (13 out of 26, not bad)

Not confident as having Sheard as a starter? Wow.

Yes he has to now move to LB so that can be risky, but Sheard is a great talent and we are lucky to have him as part of our defense. He led our team in sacks the past two years. Not saying 7.5 and 8 sacks is amazing but it was the best on our team.

I hear ya, but that switch to OLB from DE doesn't work for everybody... see Mario Williams. That is why I am not confident.

He is no doubt a solid pass-rusher, but can he cover when he needs to? I like Sheard and hope he works out but it is just a big "?" right now as a starting OLB. Either way, I think Horton will fit him into our D plenty b/c of his ability to get pressure.

Let's not get in to that! Just for clarity, both are types of football - American Football played in the NFL and Association Football, played just about everywhere else, so any debate about which is the 'real' football is pretty pointless πŸ˜‰

FYI, there is no such thing as "American Football". Anyone that uses that nomenclature is assinine.

There is: Baseball, football, basketball, softball, hockey, golf, tennis, bowling, soccer, tiddlywinks, cornhole, chess, checkers, auto racing, rodeo, bocce ball, darts, jarts, wrestling, quidditch, rugby, etc. etc. etc., none of which require qualifyers like Asian/African/European/Arctic/Antarctic/American/Martian/Venusian/Saturnian to them.

Love the word nomenclature, seriously underused these days! Anyway, the term is used by pretty much everyone outside America to describe the sport played in the NFL. To most other people, football means soccer. I'm not sure why it's so important though?

Just FYI, as for other sports not needing the prefix of the place it was invented? Well you've heard of rugby (technically Rugby Football) - this was invented in a town called Rugby. On top of that, you have Australian football, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and if you're feeling generous, Gaelic football. There are probably others, and I'm sure there are a load of stick fighting sports from Africa that are peculiar to that tribe that have been missed out.

Anyway, how about we just agree that when I say football on here, I mean what you mean? And if I want to talk about that other sport, I'll call it soccer?

Here is your second lesson: Fuck all what the rest of the world says or calls it. It is important because when you use that excuse it comes off as being the height of ignorance and arrogance. It IS simply football. There is no other name for it.

Unlike soccer...which, by the way was coined by the British, not the Americans or anyone else.

Just FYI, as for other sports not needing the prefix of the place it was invented? Well you've heard of rugby (technically Rugby Football) - this was invented in a town called Rugby.

But that is how it got its name. No one I have ever known ever called it "Rugby Football". Calling it Rugby Football would be superfluous....and confusing to some.

I know there are different versions of rugby, like Rugby Sevens, which you probably do have to distinguish simply because of the number of people on the field, I guess.

On top of that, you have Australian football, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and if you're feeling generous, Gaelic football. There are probably others, and I'm sure there are a load of stick fighting sports from Africa that are peculiar to that tribe that have been missed out.

Do the people of Australia call their game "Australian football", or do the Gaelic people call that game "Gaelic football"? (Isn't "Gaelic football" also called hurling, or is that a different sport altogether)

Anyway, how about we just agree that when I say football on here, I mean what you mean? And if I want to talk about that other sport, I'll call it soccer?

That would be wise, and appropriate.

Fuck all what the rest of the world says or calls it. It is important because when you use that excuse it comes off as being the height of ignorance and arrogance. It IS simply football. There is no other name for it.

And you're calling him the arrogant and ignorant one? lol

Sure thing, ignoramus. The rugby team that I played on was The UD Rugby Football Club. Is it superfluous? Sure. But to say that you've never heard of that term just shows that you really haven't been exposed to much of it.

I didn't say I never heard of it. I said that its use is superfluous. That is the same as saying "The Cleveland Browns Football Team", or the Cleveland Indians Baseball Team. Any team can be called by the sport it is.

But would you ever call them The Cleveland Browns American Football Team"? Or the Cleveland Cavaliers United States Basketball Team? Or the Leeds United Kingdom Rugby Football Team?

                              See my point?
