Browns Roster As It Stands..survey
-
I've grown up with "real" football - soccer, to you lot, I suppose - in the UK. I started following the Browns a couple of years ago, in part due to Randy Lerner (who is chairman of my beloved Aston Villa, as I'm sure everyone knows - if it helps, we used to bitch and whine that he was distracted by the Browns all the time); also because I have family in Ohio - it took me a while to realise that there was another team in the state and by then I was already converted!
I watched the superbowl a few years in a row and realised it's actually great fun, so started taking a more serious interest.
Hope that helps

Just FYI, "real" football is Football. What you watch is soccer or futbol. No charge for educational fees.

Let's not get in to that! Just for clarity, both are types of football - American Football played in the NFL and Association Football, played just about everywhere else, so any debate about which is the 'real' football is pretty pointless

FYI, there is no such thing as "American Football". Anyone that uses that nomenclature is assinine.
There is: Baseball, football, basketball, softball, hockey, golf, tennis, bowling, soccer, tiddlywinks, cornhole, chess, checkers, auto racing, rodeo, bocce ball, darts, jarts, wrestling, quidditch, rugby, etc. etc. etc., none of which require qualifyers like Asian/African/European/Arctic/Antarctic/American/Martian/Venusian/Saturnian to them.

Love the word nomenclature, seriously underused these days! Anyway, the term is used by pretty much everyone outside America to describe the sport played in the NFL. To most other people, football means soccer. I'm not sure why it's so important though?
Just FYI, as for other sports not needing the prefix of the place it was invented? Well you've heard of rugby (technically Rugby Football) - this was invented in a town called Rugby. On top of that, you have Australian football, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and if you're feeling generous, Gaelic football. There are probably others, and I'm sure there are a load of stick fighting sports from Africa that are peculiar to that tribe that have been missed out.
Anyway, how about we just agree that when I say football on here, I mean what you mean? And if I want to talk about that other sport, I'll call it soccer?

Here is your second lesson: Fuck all what the rest of the world says or calls it. It is important because when you use that excuse it comes off as being the height of ignorance and arrogance. It IS simply football. There is no other name for it.
Unlike soccer...which, by the way was coined by the British, not the Americans or anyone else.

But that is how it got its name. No one I have ever known ever called it "Rugby Football". Calling it Rugby Football would be superfluous....and confusing to some.
I know there are different versions of rugby, like Rugby Sevens, which you probably do have to distinguish simply because of the number of people on the field, I guess.

Do the people of Australia call their game "Australian football", or do the Gaelic people call that game "Gaelic football"? (Isn't "Gaelic football" also called hurling, or is that a different sport altogether)

That would be wise, and appropriate.

And you're calling him the arrogant and ignorant one? lol

Right. Sorry, did I forget to give you your honorable mention?

Sure thing, ignoramus. The rugby team that I played on was The UD Rugby Football Club. Is it superfluous? Sure. But to say that you've never heard of that term just shows that you really haven't been exposed to much of it.

I didn't say I never heard of it. I said that its use is superfluous. That is the same as saying "The Cleveland Browns Football Team", or the Cleveland Indians Baseball Team. Any team can be called by the sport it is.
But would you ever call them The Cleveland Browns American Football Team"? Or the Cleveland Cavaliers United States Basketball Team? Or the Leeds United Kingdom Rugby Football Team?
See my point?
