  • Referring to Gip's question - here's the next set of the list, which again, is just a list

for the sake of discussion. Nobody is going to think this IS the list:

For that second first, with the players the Browns would want to pick.. gone,

they would "reach" for another player they know will be a great fit, and

the second round pick would probly also be from this list. Maybe.

  • Schwartz has had good days, and bad days. He isn't

a Joe Thomas. He has the feet, and can get the strength. I wonder

if he has been playing banged up...

He has shoved back to the qb...but a -smart- qb would see the field, and make a decision,

and get rid of the ball. So, a bad qb will make the line look a lot worse than it is, relating

a bit to what Shep has said about it. Without Hoyer in there, that is the case, more than anything else. But Lauvao... he isn't agile enough to be a good pass defender, regardless of who the qb is.

not saying i hate the guy....maybe he'd be 2nd string to a REAL RT.

  • yeah they did the BPA a couple of years ago looking for their RT in schwartz.

how has that worked out for them?

I think The Schwartz will be OK. He has had somewhat of a sophomore slump, but that position is one of the least of our worries. Obviously QB/RB/OG/ILB maybe WR are more priority.

  • One other concern to think about: Who might the Browns lose in FA? According to USA Today sports the Browns don't have a single FA coming up this offseason. I find that a bit hard to believe.

Does anyone know differently? I though both Mack and Ward were potentially up.

It would be hell to try to replace those guys in the draft with all the Browns other concerns.

  • Standing pat:

I'd like Derek Carr (1a) & Eric Ebron or Davonte Adams (1b)

(Or even better Jace Amaro or Marquise Lee if our Colts pick was a little higher than I'm thinking)

Yep, Ward & Mack are FAs at the end of this year, along with some other scrubs. Since they were both draft picks, maybe they're ERFA? Not sure how that all works.

  • The Browns are going to be very shrewd about this draft.

If the guy they want is Carr or Bridgewater, they'll pick their qb

    with the first 1st rounder.

Otherwise, they will pick another position, and nab a

Garoppolo, for instance, with the second 1st rounder. I don't see them

waiting til their second pick. A couple of qb's may very well go there

at the top of the second. It's that kind of qb draft.

I haven't given much thought to ILB, but if Jackson gets banged up...

big trouble. So Gip mentioned a guy who is listed as a OLB... but played ILB...

that is serious food for thought.

Quality depth at other positions will, obviously, determine the draft to a point.

Yes, I feel like a knucklehead for talking the draft so soon. But it beats

whining about our pitiful qb/wr/cb situation.

BTW, Owens is hurt, if I remember correctiy. A cb is a must in the top three rounds, probabaly

the third. An OG is also a must, not considering FA. The 340 lb is a thought, if he can

move a lot quicker than Lauvao.

On the CB position, Leon McFadden is going to be thrown in there to see what kind of stones he has. If he does well perhaps we won't need that early round CB.

Ward & Mack will be unrestricted FAs, so we will re-sign one, and possible franchise the other... I could see re-signing Ward and tagging Mack for one year.

Robertson is also a FA, but he is a ERFA meaning we can offer him a veteran minimum and he can either accept it or retire...

The rest of our FAs can leave resulting in no additional holes on our roster b/c none of them are irreplaceable. Biggest one is maybe Lauvao, but not really concerned with him leaving as he needs upgraded anyway.

    what's up with mcfadden?

is he hurt or he just can't make the cut to starter?

I think Garoppolo may move up ahead of our 2nd 1st roun pick unless some issues come up. These guys move up and down so much, it's hard to really know what NFL teams may actually think of them.

He played a few snaps last game.

The one pass that I saw thrown his way was high and probably uncatchable, but he was in good position and was fairly close to intercepting the ball.

I'd like to see more if him, kinda surprised we haven't yet.

Chris Owens is gone for the year so we're going to see a lot of him from here on out ... let's hope he rises to the occasion.

  • Unless you believe Bridgewater or Carr are guaranteed studs (and I personally don't) neither are worthy of a top ten pick. They damn sure aren't worthy of multiple picks. I'd rather take Boyd , McCarron or Garoppolo in the bottom of the 1st or top of the 2nd. Use the first pick for best player on the board who fills a need other than QB. If we need to bundle a few picks to move up in the 2nd to get one of those guys that would be ok.
