  • Well I tried to put you on ignore but computer crapped on me. Glad I didnt. I get you a little more now after that post. You don't have to agree with me. I come from a way diifferent view point when it comes to any sport or game. Its a pure mathematical/game theory approach. Its what I am good at. Hell, its how I make a living.

    Peace fellow Browns fan.

if that's what you are good at maybe you can teach me some of that wisdom.

facts, figures and streaks don't mean poo poo to me, cuz we haven't seen 9 and 7 in how long? yet we have a foundation of solid players on both lines (exceot OL tot he right) and yet with every genious coach and regime change we barely touch the .500 mark.

is it coaching (yes) is it an owner that won't drop the hammer when needed to be, or is the over-hyped draft picks and FA we sign that don't do suadoosh?

  • I work all louisville home games, bridgewater is over rated we do not want him.

Because their QBs have all sucked. And really, just unlucky. They restart the franchise a year earlier and get Manning instead of Couch its likely all sunshines and rainbows. Plus, we are all less cranky.

Everybody here knows QB is most important. I think I disagree with most by HOW much its most important.

Big change from when I was a kid. Couldn't the Bears, Skins, Giants, etc start anybody at QB and win 10 games back in the day? Its kinda a shame. Damn rule changes.

The team that ticks me off the most (aside from steelers) is the Colts. They have a trash roster and a goofball owner, yet they are in the middle of enjoying about 30 years of playoff appearances because they got Manning and Luck.

  • When a team is good enough to win games with Don Strock at the helm then somebody like Bernie Kosar looks great.

Every team in 1st place in their division has had the same QB for the whole year.

Every team at the bottom of their division except for Atlanta and maybe one other has had multiple QBs.

The Packers have only one game without Aaron Rodgers at the helm.

So yes, the only position that needs to be upgraded to take the Browns to a winning record is QB. Getting far in the playoffs and to the Super Bowl will require another WR, 1-2 OG, an RB, an ILB and maybe another CB.

So to answer the question in the subject header, if the Browns don't see the franchise QB in this draft they have several options:

    1) Sign Jay Cutler and address the positions listed above in the draft, and also include a QB that you can sit behind Cutler.

    or:

    2) Don't sign Cutler, draft a QB in the third round that you can sit behind Hoyer or Campbell. Draft for the positions above.

    or

    3) Sign Cutler, don't draft a QB this year, address all the positions listed above in the draft early, draft for depth in the later rounds, and plan to draft Cutler's successor in 2015.

Personally I think the Browns have an excess of assets that they can afford to be aggressive in finding a good QB, and should throw multiple of those assets at the problem. Why? There are only two players on the offense that touch the ball for every offensive play of the game, and only one of them decides what to do with it. QB is the bottleneck of the offense, and that's why it is the most important position in any team sport.

  • Or can we just ban mik? He is by far the worst on this site. He offers very little thought and constantly puts profanity everywhere.

Seriously....Why? Insider info is all welcome!
  • I like to look at a QB like Troy Aikman when talking QBs and winning. Aikman starts career with a crap line, and limited weapons (Irvin) team stinks. Aikman gets an incredible O-line, Smith, Johnston, etc. team wins like crazy. Aikman's team gets old and broken down team stinks. All equals Hall of Fame.

  • I think we should take a good long look at Mallett....seriously. maybe give em like a 2nd and 4th for him and we could draft another guy late.

What has Mallet ever done do warrant a 2nd OR a 4th? What evidence is there of him being any good? If he is so good, then do you really think an organization like the Patriots are going to dump him when Brady is just a couple years from retiring?

I watched him play in college. He was a first round talent with a huge arm that had an incident and dropped. He only has one year left on his contract so New England will want to trade him before they lose him for nothing. I highly doubt he resigns with them because He'll be 29-30 when Brady retires. I was guesstimating the picks it would take.

Not trying to be a jerk but are you seriously basing the possible future of the Browns on how a kid played in college? The Browns have already bet on those stats for the last 14 years.
  • For all you Carr lovers.

Manziel's completion percentage on throws of 6 yards or more is 65%

    Carr's is 54%

Manziel plays against MUCH better competition.

As if facts matter when frantic fans whipped to a frenzy by "experts" go on a QB hunt with their blood up.

    You're being modest... it's at least 90%... 😉

  • It's almost impossible to overrate the impact of a quarterback on today's NFL, much by design and rules changes.

With Aaron Rodgers, Super Bowl contenders. Without? Worse than the Browns. With Manning or Luck, Super Bowl contenders. Without either? Worse than the Browns. With Stafford? Playoffs. Without? Garbage. Before Russell Wilson, great defense and a shot at the 6th seed! With him, best team in the NFL.

Eagles before Foles, Dream Team Losers. With him? 8-5 and hot as hell. Goes on and on. It's undeniable.

Yet it doesn't really work the other way. No matter who plays on defense, or even receiver, Brady and Manning just keep winning.

  • There's no denying Brady, Manning or Rodgers but other than that I wouldn't say that any one QB is better than the next as far as being able to win until you get to the twentyish range if u rank em. Ask Matt Ryan, Eli Manning, Pig Pen, Rivers etc.. how much a supporting cast matter. So unless you're lucky enough to tab an all time great, I'd say its obvious you can win with competent QB play and a great team around em.

True, but it is still possible to overrate prospects... especially if you conflate the two.
