Locked The Browns Board

Here is again where you show your ignorance and lack of knowledge of sports history.

The Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Colts have been around essentially the very same amount of time:

The original Baltimore Colts were in the AAFC with the Browns. Look it up.

Well, the Browns won 4 championships in that same league where the Colts won none.

Then the Colts came into the NFL with the Browns and 49ers, but that franchise went under....but reappeared about 3 years later.

So, in reality the Browns and Colts have the same length of existance.

Did Cleveland have other teams here that won titles prior to the mid-40s. Yes.

But the length of time involved there was more like 20-25 years, not 60.

So, yea Cleveland has a few years head start....and more than double the titles.

Ok, your history lessons are nice and maybe it makes you feel good about yourself....but like you said the past is history and it doesn't matter anymore, so lets look at the present. The Ravens franchise is light years ahead of the Browns and 10x better in every way. period. no debate.

Really? They split the 2 games and neither made the playoffs, and except for a real QB and maybe the RB I believe the talent pool for each team comes down on the side of the Browns

That light year is really maybe the distance to the end of your front porch.

Now you are laughable. Do you wear clown makeup around the house?

After Baltimore lost the bid for an expansion franchise they went trolling for another team. They just happened to find one with an inept owner that was greedy for cash.

Modell WAS a failed owner who didn't know how to run an NFL team. Clearly that is the case because he was kicked out of the league. And he wanted cash....and probably needed it because he was so piss poor at running things he was losing money.

But the "approach" was made by Schaefer and the MD governor. (can't recall the name)

Yeah, once they knew Modell was interested they approached him...of course. First off, you have the CLE side of the story so of course we will never agree....

Well your source on that is incorrect....completely incorrect. Tagliabue hates Baltimore and voiced that, so it had nothing to do with Modells influence. He told us to go build another museum.

No, you are wrong. It is well documented that Modell voted against giving an expansion franchise to Baltimore. Of course this happened several years before he decided he would be a whore.

Modell felt that Baltimore didn't deserve another team. Of course his attitude changed when they held 75 million fresh greenbacks in his nose.

Well maybe that upsets you, but remember what BALTIMORE did as a franchise once they moved had nothing to do with CLE...go look at how many people on the super bowl roster were from cleveland...Stover and Burnett....?

The Baltimore franchise never moved. Or are you talking about the Colts? The Cleveland Franchise never moved either.

So, I agree what Baltimore did as a franchise after Modell was granted the Expansion Ravens franchise had nothing to do with Cleveland.

Finally we agree on something LOL...so many Browns fans say "oh those super bowls should be ours" and blah blah blah. The Ravens have zero to do with the Browns...the franchises are totally different and completely remodeled.

Yes, we do agree on that.

At least you stuck to a fact and didn't call him a murderer. Also, pretty sure Modell isn't rotting in Hell...I can already see that the Modell topic will be too sensitive for you guys to handle.

Isn't that old news by now?

What do you think about Robert Irsay? Just interested.

He's a drunk who spent most days on the job wasted (as his son alluded to many times). Hes a poor business man who drove a franchise into the ground and belittled media members and then snuck a team out of town. His son revived the franchise in Indy. As for him though, don't really care. Hes just a moron, but no real hate for him...he did what he thought was best for his business (that turned out to be the wrong move)

  • @the-gipper said:

I agree. There is absolutely no reason to think that any "curse" the Browns have has anything to do with Modell or Baltimore. It is just bad management that we have had here.

As far as Modell and the HOF....Grossi is right. Modell was kicked out of the NFL. Why should he be enshrined. And FYI, that ship has passed and Modell will likely never be given consideration again.

So, truly, his memory can be wiped out.

Grossi is wrong...While Modell has some black eyes, he has done wonders for this league. Too many too talk about and honestly what he has done for Baltimore is in itself a hall of fame move. You only would understand what it means if you lived here. period.

No, there is not too many to talk about. In fact, there are too few. Name one or two.

FYI, he didn't "move" to bring football back to Baltimore. Just a couple of years earlier he said Baltimore didn't deserve a team.

He moved for one reason, pure and simple: $$$$$$.

If you don't understand that, then you are stupid.

Or, maybe the right move....in his opinion.

He moved to Indy for the same reason Modell tried to move to Baltiwhore: Money.

If you don't understand that, you are ignorant.

But like stated before he wasn't voted in by the committee. Cause they are real good at keepin the people that deserve to be in out! Guess he's just getting Screwed! Such a pity. Least everyone in Baltimore got to jack him off on the 50 yrd line before they violated mother earth with his corpse.

Seriously zombie apocalypse happens I'll risk everything to put a bullet in his brain before any other zombie.

  • To be fair there's differences

    1) Cleveland approved renovations to the stadium, Modell still moved

    2) Baltimore did not approve their new stadium

    3) Cleveland was an expansion team, the ravens were not

Obvious differences, but I'm sure Baltimore is over the colts given that the ravens have won super bowls and been pretty successful year after year.

So is that what this is about....winning? So if the Browns could ever win and sustain it would everyone let the Modell thing go? I mean thats not why BALTIMORE has let Irsay thing go. We've always seen it different in my mind.

Just like the league said it was a black eye when they lost the Colts...but it took 12 years to get a team back in Baltimore...psh think before you write.

Also, your curse has nothing to do with Baltimore....forget about Modell...were talking Baltimore. Theres no guarantees that you would have won jack had Modell stayed in Cleveland.

Just like that idiot Tony Grossi who stands up each year trying to keep Modell out of the Hall of Fame....loser.

Art will never get into the Hall of Fame. And it has nothing to do with Tony Grossi. Think before u write douchbag.

Tony Grossi stands up every year in the hall of fame room to make a speech about why Art Modell shouldn't be in the HOF... most people stand up to make a case not against someone.

  • @the-gipper said:

The above reflects that 10 out of the current 32 teams moved at some point...or 31.25% of all teams.

I think MLB may even be worse. Here are the teams there that have moved (again, move means completely out of market):

    Atlanta/Milwaukee/Boston Braves

    Baltimore/St. Louis Orioles/Browns

    LA/Brooklyn Dodgers

    Milwaukee/Seattle Brewers/Pilots

    Minnesota/Washington Twins/Senators

    New York/Baltimore Yankees/Orioles

    Oakland/KC/Phil. As

    San Fran/NY Giants

    Texas/Washington Rangers/Senators

    Washinton/Montreal Nationals/Expos

That is 10 of the 30 teams or 33%.

looks like Baltimore is just a Bitch Market

Then you are lying to yourself. If the Rats had not won that title in 2000 and the Colts had won the one in 2006, you all would have been all bitter beer faces over it.

But, again thanks to Ozzie and Biscotti you didn't have to feel that way. But trust me, you would have.

You no longer have to worry about Grossi doing that. Modell will not be considered in the future. He has been weighed, measured and found to be wanting.

(by the way....he is not the only one that stood up to advocate a no vote on Modell. Guys from Pitt and Buffalo did too)

Of the two cities which was the last one to have a team in the playoffs of their sport? Cleveland.

those guys didn't fit his argument. But Hey I'm sure he knows more about modell more than Cleveland fans. He was in Baltimore for what 15 yrs to what 50-60 in Cleveland
