Can we get the fuck over this romanticism of "blue collar" horseshit?
I could could give a fuck about blue collar players, for fucks sake just bring in a winner.
In a lot of instances one brings the other. Russell Wilson vs Colin Kaepernick, Andrew Luck vs Cam Newton. I want guys who do their jobs and don't need the limelight to thrive.
I want guys who do their jobs and don't need the limelight to thrive.
yeah? and I want to fuck Scarlet Johannsen.

Walter don't know how long you've watched football, and am not being trying to that smart ass, but guys like Marvin Harrison, Barry Sanders, Steve Young, etc just did their job, smiled and lined up again.

We've supported blue collar players because that's who we get. LeBron sure as hell isn't a blue collar player. People like superstars. We've never had one on the browns since pretty much ever. Enjoy the buzz while it's around because it could dissipate pretty quickly and we could move on again and then Marvin Lewis won't be calling our qb a midget because he's not actually worth mentioning. Or he could be a huge douchey superstar for years. I'm hoping for option 2. Seems like you're hoping for option 1..
Gordon has that "superstar" quality and he's a kucklehead who doesn't know the plays and takes plays off when he's not happy. Give me the Andrew Hawkins' of the world who will run through a brick wall to play.
I completely agree with you but I just don't see how you fit Manziel into Gordons category right now. In like 8 minutes the kid showed more heart than Gordon's shown in his whole career. The guy was a supplemental draftee and he plays like a spoiled 1st round top 5'er.

Most fans, media and the coaches all realize his drive against the Bills was against a soft defense and as soon as he gets in the endzone here comes Johnny Football. Just want him to earn the praise in the NFL and not buy too much in his own legend. You see it more in the NBA where these "kids" come in with the hype, under perform and washout because "everyone has it out for them". Russell Wilson is the polar opposite, he's got a chip on his shoulder because few believed in him and exploits that.
-
I'm pretty sure that when the bills saw him they were as Gung ho to take him out as anybody. Great way to make a name for yourself.

I've been on these boards two days and I can already tell that Bacon Hound has a uncomfortably wierd dislike of Johnny.
Bacon Hound, As a new poster to this board I have to believe others probably have shared this advice before, but opinions are fine, just back the shit up. Johnny was "Johnny Football" the year he won the Heisman. It's not an act. He likes to have fun. He also is a dedicated football player who works his ass off. Give the guy a break. Let's see how he does before declaring he's a bust.

OK, there were plenty of Browns fans that hated the Manziel pick- including me. Not particularly keen about his off-field antics either. However assuming the Manziel Era starts Sunday, I'll be cheering for him to succeed. The last thing I want to see is yet another qb bust.
One thing for sure- rookie or not, Manziel won't be given the kind of slack the fans gave Hoyer from some quarters.I'd say about as much as Brandon Wee-done.
It could have been the Cleveland fairy tale. Downtrodden hometown kid comes out of nowhere to lead the Browns to the playoffs.Story didn't have a happy ending. Time to move on to "the next great thing."

Seriously you Jonny haters are just looking for stuff to whine about.
Think about your lists of grievances against Johnny and ask yourself if you really care.
OK would you really rather lose games behind a guy that gets up early eats a good breakfast and goes to church every Sunday? Really?

This fanbase is dying for something to rub in divisional opponents faces like the gay terrible towel crap. If manziel is great the steelers fans will bitch so hard about the money sign. And it will be sweet. Don't deny it. You know this to be true.

I don't know if I'm dying to use an annoying way to express my fandom. But after putting up with terrible towels and Ravens ripped-off soccer chant, I suppose it would be nice to annoy the fuck out of them right back. But it goes both ways when your team struggles. (BTW, did I see it right when T.Y. Hilton was doing the money sign on a TD catch?)
Another thought...who the hell came up with the awful idea of the "Dirty Towel"? That was incredibly lame and I remember NO ONE using them when they were handed out at a game a few years back.

It's called counterbalancing...

The fanbase is dying for wins... they are what rub gimmicks in the faces of our rivals. We've had two of those this year. Let's get two more. With or without a "gimmick" of our own. Makes zero difference to me...

Yeah there will always be guys like you who just want a win but if you don't think the money sign is going to catch on you're very mistaken
-
Tour one more time, I love Brian Hoyer and wish he didn't suck.
And yes I am anxious to see what our first round draft pick and one of the most celebrated (and admittedly controversial) rookies in the history of the NFL can do.
Aren't you? Really?
I don't see why there has to be a disconnect.
If he turns out to be the worst quarterback in the league then I guess you guys can have a gloating party.

And if the Cleveland Browns are successful under Johnny it will be nationwide like Fonzies "Heyyyyy".
Hopefully he's already filed for the trademark...

What you don't seem to get yet is that you are describing JFF, not just Hawkins. He would run through a brick wall just to win a game. That's how he's wired. Ask anyone who's known him in any sport he has ever played. He hates losing more than he loves winning or "spotlights". In the spring game final scrimmage after he had won the Heisman he took off around the left end, flipped the ball out to the halfback and then took on a couple of LB's so the back could score. Sumlin got all over him about it. His response? "I couldn't help it coach. I wanted the TD!"

Steve, all things being equal, I'd rather WIN with a guy like you just described. Say like a Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers? Now should JFF play like those two, I won't care much if he acts like Joe Namath did off the field.

Yup... I am. Pretty much why I have told you as much at least twice now?
And my mod of your quote was not aimed at you... although I can see how you'd think that. You are not star-stuck. It was meant for those that are. Sometimes a knife cuts both ways...
My mod was meant for those who have been piling on Hoyer through all his efforts.
For those who treat any questioning of JM as heresy.
For those who want to see Johnny play regardless of whether the Browns win.
I want to see the Browns win... as do you. I now think the recipe for wins includes a QB change. I simply choose not to rejoice in the reason the change is now necessary as many, not necessarily you, do.

We "get it". It's a perfect summary of my, and others', greatest fear...
Let us pray...
Lord, give Johnny the serenity to accept that there are walls he cannot runneth through, the courage to runneth through the walls he can, and the control over his competiveness to know the difference.
Amen
Go Browns...

yeah sorta like cam's superman sign caught on sunday vs. the saints.
do that at the wrong team at the wrong time and johnny will get bent like a choir boy over a catholic priest's knee.
