Not a viable starter from what...our last five first round picks....Johnny Rehab, Mingo ate my baby, Aarp weeden, gilbert grape, the other name eludes me...thanks to therapy.
I will be interested to see how many fans will be praising gilbert after this year. He has all the tools and is working with Haden to have a strong season next year. I was happy when the Browns drafted him and look forward to watching his progress next year. With Haden, Desir, Williams, and Gilbert I think we are in good shape and I am glad we did not re-sign Mr. Flag Buster Skrine or feel the need to sign any other over priced Free Agent DB.

This isn't my crazy speculation but it does have........ Mariota a brown???

Maybe Brian, took a few too many shots to the head during his playing days.....but maybe not....

Mariota falling to 12 is a bold prediction, but Leonard Williams falling to 8 is sheer lunacy.

Remember everyone here that thought tho was a good pick? Remember all of the Aggie trolls? Where'd they all go?

everyone is not true. i hated the pick.
all the trolls have left. maybe if manziel makes it to training camp we'll see some back, but the way things are going, i doubt it. who wants to jump on that bandwagon again as it goes over the cliff in flames?
-
I hated the pick also. He's 5'11" and can't read defenses
-
I was a big Hoyer fan and was hoping he would get resigned. The guy just made a huge impression with me the way he came in after Weedon got hurt and suddenly an offense that couldn't move the ball was reeling off 3 straight wins with Hoyer under center and things were looking good until he got hurt. Then this year we were leading the division at 6-3 with Hoyer over half way through the season until we slumped the rest of the year. Some say defenses figured out Hoyer and shut him down but I believe Hoyer is a good qb with a running game but when Mack got hurt and our running game dropped off there are not that many qb's that will do well without having a running game and Hoyer struggled.
My initial thought with McCown was how was this any kind of upgrade? When the club signed Brian Hartline he said he was impressed with what the coaches were building in Cleveland (I have heard a number of players say this now) and didn't understand why the fans wouldn't trust the coaches on McCown. I will go with that. I have a lot of confidence in Pettine. He hasn't made any secret his goal is to improve the defense to be one of the best in the league. We will have the ability to win games with our defense.
With JM the Browns are doing everything they can for him after he gets out of rehab to help him be an NFL quarterback. I see that with some of the coaches they hired and McCown who also is more than willing to mentor JM.

You can keep shooting rainbows out your ass and stay positive, but people spend good money and have a right to bitch and complain when they get screwed over year after year. You dont have to click on the threads or even read them. It will quiet down as moves are made and they are quiet in FA so peeps have nothing to divert to.Personally, I'm just growing tired of the shit-talking pessimists who contribute nothing to this board other than bitching and complaining. This is my attempt to get actual intelligent people like yourself to have conversation, since this requires a little more critical thinking than "MANZIEL is a FUCKING DRUNK and is a FAGGOT" or "fuck haslam fuck the front office fuck farmer we need to shitcan everyone and start over". So very tired. Apparently, it's been a contest with a few people, to see who could be the worst of it.
I figure Gordon will come back after a year, out of shape, stoned on his ass, get dropped out of training camp...
and he'll sue the NFL for not giving him a chance.....

You don't have to spend "good money", either.
Why should everyone else have to suffer because you make terrible financial decisions?

Got away with his girl. Still in rehab. Still 5'11. Still overwhelmed by speed of NFL game.

Still an NFL quarterback, unlike us. Dude's yucking it up.

Yeah, I know, but when you get to my age you don't much care about them as a person anymore, just fucking win.
20 years of heartbreak followed by 20 years of pain and crappy football leaves you a little jaded.
I don't care about your private life, it's all about "what can you do for my Browns". With Johnny so far it's .... not much.

Teams are looking to trade up for Mariota when Manziel is arguably more talented. Clean Johnny could turn into a Steve Young type talent. Running backs run Johnny. Stay at home and off the booze.

I don't give up on him as quickly as most of you guys do. Give him a real line that allows more than 2 seconds and better play calling/design that takes advantage of what he can do rather than stuffing him in a system and you may see the real reason he holds a lot of major SEC records. You only saw a shadow of the real Johnny Football. He's a competitive person and when rehab is done he will show the kind of dedication you all expected rather than a guy trying to live up to a name he never asked for. He has the right QB coach and the right OC to give him the best shot at being a real NFL player. I'm banking on the fact he has always taken up the challenge in the past and done the things he needed to do AFTER he won the Heisman to make himself a better player. That now includes putting himself through a very humbling rehab. process that has put him up to ridicule here and elsewhere.

Did the offensive linemen, OC, and QB coach drive him down to happy hour instead of handing him a playbook? It seems as if you are absolving your substance abusing leprechaun from any blame for how he performed.

I don't think the blocking, even without Mack, was all that bad. It's more like, give him some receivers who
can get open and take off. Without Gordon, they can double Cameron or Hawk, and the secondary and
linebackers just cheat up close to shut down the short/midrange passes. They need a guy like one of the top four
or five wr's, with Hartline, and then you have something for pass defenses to fret over.
Really, Canton Mike and I disagreed about Johnny. I just didn't know if I'd draft him, not knowing
how his skills translated into the NFL game. I wanted Garropolo sp?, but that's in the past.
But he certainly does have skills. And off the charts tenacity, and he loves the game. And very, very smart.
I do disagree with you on one point - JF actually DID "ask" for the notoriety - his "money sign", his wild social life...
but, the kid is serious about getting his life in order, and when he comes back onto the field, watch out. He seems
to be resilient, and very serious to get over whatever he's dealing with - and most of us will want him to succeed.
Good luck to him - I wish him the best, especially in rehab.

Hell no. I will get a Funchess jersey if the opportunity presents itself though
and if it doesn't, I should still get a new jersey. Right now, I have a Braylon jersey haha.
If we resigned Skrine I might have gotten his. Not sure now

A. You are BEING an ass.
B. I know it's stupid, but I'm a positive guy, I was born a middle class, goofball BROWNS FAN comedian child.
C. People make their own decisions. It isn't our fault you are frustrated - who isn't? You think bitching helps?
D. Nobody is getting "screwed over". You think the Browns are trying to piz you off? It is what it is, bad start, wrong fo,
wrong coaches. The Browns have fixed that, and last season was their first. It isn't like they draft in the top three picks.
E. I read them for fun, that's why I've been around here for such a long time. Laughing is good.
F. So, you're whining that the Browns should make stupid, expensive moves in FA, just so you can not bitch so much? really?
G. I admire Farmer, and Pettine - and I'm delighted that Flip replaced Shanny. We're good to go now.
H. Oh, you don't like our upbeatness? Gee..."You dont have to click on the threads or even read them"
I. as in, I don't have to have the Browns go to the playoffs or superbowl, to be a fan. Most of us are that way.
J. You might think you're a "peep", but the rest of us will crow when the Browns get it together this coming season,
and really start having a season better than 7 wins.
K. Yes, that's a prediction, and I'm not a quitter, and I don't bitch. Not very much, anyways......

Nope they did not and I think by now he knows where the blame lies and realizes it's time to be Johnny Manziel and not Johnny Football. He fell into a trap and now seems to want out and has taken very serious steps to do so. The very first thing we ever heard out his mouth (since Sumlin did not let freshmen speak to the media) was during a taped fun tape played at Kyle Field (A&M) when players were asked what their nicknames were. Here he was about to win the Heisman and his answer was almost in the form of a question, "Well some people call me Johnny Football, I guess." Then he started trying to live it rather than just continue to be himself, a talented player out of Kerrville, Texas. He got caught up in way too much premature fame and it damn near killed him. I think when rehab is done we just see a talented player from Texas A&M who wants to be the best he can be for the Browns. After this past year he knows it's far harder than he thought it would be.
