I just want to admire this gem for a bit...

Yep, we should just give up drafting first rounders and hoping they make the team better. Just fill out the roster with a bunch of scrubs who are consistent.

Have the Browns had problems drafting guys in the first round? Yes.....and it is mostly the skill players that they have bombed on.

But, the fact is....everybody had these players ranked highly....so its not like the Browns greatly reached. Here is what we have:

    2014

Mayock at NFL.com had JFF ranked as the #10 prospect, Gilbert at #23

    CBS.com had JFF ranked #7, Gilbert #20

If you just reverse where these two were taken...it would be consistent with their preseason ranking.

    2013

Mayock/NFL.com had Mingo ranked #10. CBS had him ranked #21

    2012

Mayock had Richardon ranked #3, Weeden #35

CBS had Richardson at #4, Weeden at #44

Weeden seems the only true reach. That is what happens when you are desperate for a QB. Weeden had/has all the arm talent in the world....but as someone said, he had the pocket presence of a possum in headlights.

No, I knew that. I just used your post as a jumping spot to show how the Browns didn't draft players that everyone else thought was "no good."

And to point out that there is a bit of serendipity to making these choices. Everyone had TR as the next "Beast Mode"....who could have predicted that he in fact would be "Least Mode" instead.

Steeler fans think they have a god given right to be good....but the fact is to a certain extent, they are just lucky. BR could have turned out like JP Losman instead of what he became.

I mean, look at this scouting report for Brady Quinn.....who some thought he could emulate that other Brady: Tom

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/historical/419111

I mean, if that doesn't cause you to spew your coffee, what does?

Look, I understand that you guys can't conceive of anything but the quick fix or you wouldn't be drumming for the same crap that fails for your team every year. Drafting a stud QB to play in a FUBAR organization like the Browns has never worked and it never will. Why can't you see that by trading down out of the first round and get some quality talent at core positions for a couple years, coupled with allowing a coaching staff the time to gel, might be the only way the Browns can get out of the cellar? It's only been demonstrated countless times........but I know......you guys are the best fans and you know better 😁

The point is, the Browns have not gotten that stud QB...even though they have tried. Had one of these guys turned out like we had hoped....the way BR turned out for you (instead of being the next Cade McNown) then things would be a lot different. Bad luck at drafting those QBs has been partially responsible for the instability. If Brady Quinn had actually been the next Tom Brady don't you think that Phil Savage may still be here?

And the other point here, my obtuse friend, is that very few if any here are advocating that the Browns go after another supposedly "stud" QB this year. And we certainly don't need to "trade down". We can, and should get "core players" at other positions at #12 and #19. They might even get a quality offensive skill player.....a Devante Parker/Maxx Williams. Or more help in the OL/DL/LB spots.

Have you actually been contemplating anything else that is said on here.....or are you too obsessed by the lint in your navel to look outside your own little world.

  • Ban him. Keep vagitron.

If this if that. If the Browns didn't stink they would be good. If they had better players they wouldn't lose so much. If Gipper would take his Browns goggles off he'd see his team has stunk for the last quarter century and the players on his team aren't as good as he thinks they are. Maybe the Browns have drafted some really good quarterbacks over the last 50 years, but they've had to play on crappy teams. Maybe if the Browns didn't ruin so many promising careers some of those top 10 picks would have panned out.

So the difference between the Steelers and the Browns is luck? Got it. I guess it's better to be lucky than good. But you keep telling everyone who will listen how much better your players are and the Steelers will keep winning more games than the Browns. This is the same story every single offseason. It gets worse after the draft when you guys start projecting how your picks have perfectly solved all that ills your team. Then the season starts and about a month later the posts about "being done with this team" start. It's rather funny and very predictable.

Perfect summation. I also must say zombo or whomever changed your name (what was it before?) Knocked it out of the park with this one. I laugh my ass off every time I read trolling for dick.

By the way, when I first signed up here I was "Unbiased". I tried really hard to keep it civil but damn this is a tough crowd. I went away and didn't intend to come back but sometimes I feel like you need some backup to deal with these hellions.

Ha, I figured as much and I appreciate it. Strangely enough I like it here. I appreciate some of the better posters and I enjoy name calling the more pompous/clueless bunch. It is a tough crowd but its also enemy territory. They could perma ban me but they haven't and that's something I can appreciate. I do find it amusing that you haven't been here long but put down a perfect year to year summary of what happens on this board. It could by a psych study.

Like I said before, I've been around for years but never posted. It's too negative. I live geographically equidistant from Cleveland, Buffalo and Pittsburgh, so I've been dealing with Browns fans my whole life. Erie is a football melting pot.

I assume you are a new stupid steeler fan putting his nose into things....given your screen name. The point is.....they DO have better players. Have you been paying attention.....But the Steelers do have the quality players in the right spots....like QB, to make all the difference ultimately.

If Gipper would take his Browns goggles off he'd see his team has stunk for the last quarter century and the players on his team aren't as good as he thinks they are. .

Then you need to inform the neutral ranking agencies that do that sort of thing. THEY, like PFF, are the ones that put out those rankings/gradings

Yes, partially. You are lucky that Brady Quinn was not Tom Brady....and that BR was not Cade McNown.

    Yes, it very well be.

What are we betting old man? How many off seasons are you going to call for the demise of the steelers and fail? They've been going through their down period and still finishing .500 or better. You aren't going to see a long term slump and Ben just signed a long term extension. Our offensive line is geling and our skill positions are ridiculous. The defense has been retooling the last three seasons. Soooo what are we betting? If the steelers have a winning season your name gets changed to imaloudmouthprickwithsaggyballs and if they have a losing season I will disappear for 12 calendar months. Zombo can ban me. The name change remains for 12 calendar months

Yes, partially. You are lucky that Brady Quinn was not Tom Brady....and that BR was not Cade McNown.

I guess it's better to be lucky than good.

    Yes, it very well be.

But you keep telling everyone who will listen how much better your players are and the Steelers will keep winning more games than the Browns.

Trade QBs.....and you would see that I am right.

If you are SO confident, you would agree to that.

This is the same story every single offseason. It gets worse after the draft when you guys start projecting how your picks have perfectly solved all that ills your team. Then the season starts and about a month later the posts about "being done with this team" start. It's rather funny and very predictable.

With the loss of LeBeau, and BR about to go over that hill, you will be finding out fairly soon likely.

Again, we've been through this before, in your opinion the Browns have better players at most positions. In my opinion the Steelers do. Your objective evidence is some 3rd party geeksquad site and my evidence is the fact that your team sucks and mine doesn't. Opinions mean about as much as the paper you wipe your ass with. You can have your clearly superior roster and I'll have 11-5. By the way, here's another couple opinions and guess what it means....nothing.

    here's another....

If the Browns are superior at most positions why are they rated so low to these people? I know, you don't have a qb. I feel bad about that. Your defense keeps getting more and more cred but they're still just average. What where they 23rd in the league last year?

Lets see if you can respond without calling someone stupid. It just doesn't look good for someone of your maturity and superior intellect Gipper.

    "imaloudmouthprickwithsaggyballs"...classic.

  • So which of you fags went home to your Steeler board and told all your buddies to raid us? That's pretty pathetic. I enjoyed some of the debates we were having and now the board sucks.
