OK, right. At some point I have no doubt...unless they trade all their picks away, that they will draft for some O Line depth.

  • Mud, The Sliver in Scott Soloman:: Let's agree first T.B. and Tenn. are not The Steel Curtain of Defense's or Coaching.. Pettine is a Defensive Coach and gave Scott a Shot in his system because he knows what kind of player it takes to play it. I thought Scott delivered the best technique tackle of all last season and Pettine is the Perfect Coach to Coach this Kid.. Pre-season games will be Big for this Roster. See you There..

  • Our ST is so Undisciplined with all the flags has got to get fixed. T. Lockett or J. Hardy at WR and Kick Returns will make you forget all about M. Moore. It is a need we must address in this Draft. J. Leonard won't be there to Fair Catch it ,how Boring..

  • Time to update this thread. Maybe just start a whole new one on the same topic.

  • Ok.....so in the next week or so, we will add about 10 draft picks, plus probably several more UDFA's.....

Last year we added something close to 20 new players to our roster and Im thinking, with the upgrades in talent, that isn't very likely to happen again......so, for the sake of this post, lets assume we add only 10...(only???).....which means, of course, that some familiar names from the 54 man roster will have to go.....

So, I decided to look at our veteran depth and see which 2nd tier players are on the bubble and likely to be replaced and which ones are we looking to for growth and a more prominent role this coming season...

Ill start with the ones I think have the best chance of staying....and work down to the "uh oh's"....

Michael Bowie OT - He is the reason I think we wont be drafting an OT anywhere, although people keep mocking them to us. Started for the Seahawks in their first Super Bowl until a knee injury and played very well. We stole him....healed him....and now he will compete with Schwartz to start.

Billy Winn & Desmond Bryant - Both prominent players for us, but also players at a position in flux. We lost Rubin and added Starks, but now could be adding one(possibly 2) more players to the line.....If it's 2, then at least one of these guys is likely to move on(maybe 2).......(Ima say it's Bryant)

    I. Kitchen DT - I think his time is up.

Tank Carder MLB - after 4 years, Im thinking he's not gonna suddenly get good. A great candidate to upgrade.......

Travis Benjiman WR - Ditto above comment. (word for word)

Marlon Moore WR - The "other" WR on the bubble.....7 years in and still a ST. I think he has the advantage over Travis simply because he can still return kicks.....

Robert Nelson CB - The "other" rookie CB....... we dont hear much about him, but he has played well when given the chance(did we actually draft 4 good CB's in one year?????.....wow!)....deep position, so he better hope we dont draft yet another one....(if desir moves over, that will buy a spot)

Jordan Poyer FS - OK, Poyer hasn't done much. Very good tackler. Not so great in coverage. It was telling that Leonard(SS) was used to replace Gipson, instead of Poyer. With Leonard gone, Im thinking he is a weak link in an otherwise strong group. Look for Desir to take his job.

    J. Bademosi SS - Has been very solid on ST and our main gunner. Has a good chance to stick simply because of his ST skills. Still not a solid back up at SS though, and(with Poyer) a sign that S really really needs depth.

Scott Solomon OLB - Late season pick up who played 1 great game for us. The Browns are talking him up, but the reality is that he has done zero in his previous 4 years in the league. Tenn and TB didnt work out for him, so Im not putting too much faith until I see it. A monster OLB is really what I want to see and dont think Solomon is it.

    V. Painter & R. Seymour OL - These are the 2 guys we are hoping can prevent last years nightmare from happening again. Both are 2 year guys and show "some" promise. Not enough for me. Draft depth here and get some talent.

Tight end - No names because I honestly dont know how to rank the 3 that we have....Barnidge is a solid, dependable blocker that can catch some balls......Dray is our hands guy, but not much of a blocker or deep threat......and Housler?....who knows......so, any of these guys going? or are we set at TE?........who's 1 -2 or 3?

So..................I dont hate any of these guys, but dont have much faith that they will bring us more this year(or any year, ftm) or get notably better......the only exceptions being Bowie, Nelson & Seymour, who are very young and could pop.....

Ive had enough of Benji, Carder, Kitchen & Bryant....so would like to see them replaced with newly drafted players(who beat them out, of course)......

Have a small sliver of hope for Solomon...but still would like a new OLB too......

Thoughts on who should - could - will go?......or who will step up and surprise????

    I. Kitchen DT - I think his time is up. ...Hello Danny Shelton......!!

Tank Carder MLB - after 4 years, Im thinking he's not gonna suddenly get good. A great candidate to upgrade.......Hello Hayes Pullard...!!

Travis Benjiman WR - Ditto above comment. (word for word)...Hello Vince Mayle.....!!

Robert Nelson CB - ...deep position, so he better hope we dont draft yet another one...Hello Olomu, Gaines and more....!!!

Jordan Poyer FS - Look for Desir to take his job....And say hello to Marte Sears too.....

    J. Bademosi SS - not a solid back up at SS though and a sign that S really really needs depth.....Hello Ibrahiem Campbell....!!!

Scott Solomon OLB - A monster OLB is really what I want to see and dont think Solomon is it.....Hello Nate Orchard....!!!

    V. Painter & R. Seymour OL - These are the 2 guys are not enough for me. Draft depth here and get some talent....Hello Cam Erving....!!!

Tight end - No names because I honestly dont know how to rank the 3 that we have....Barnidge is a solid, dependable blocker that can catch some balls......Dray is our hands guy, but not much of a blocker or deep threat......and Housler?....who knows......so, any of these guys going? or are we set at TE?........who's 1 -2 or 3?.....Hello Telfer and Johnson.......?!!?

So....Ive had enough of Benji, Carder, Kitchen & Bryant....so would like to see them replaced with newly drafted players(who beat them out, of course)......And.....Ill say it......I hope all 4 are gone....which means we just got better....again

  • Ill take it one further even tho its so early.....and speculate that the top 6 picks are sure to make the final roster and at least 2 look like PUP/red shirters........(so, at least 8 outta 12 to stick?....is that even possible?)

Shelton, Campbell, Erving, Orchard, D. Johnson and Cooper......all in.....

Olomu and Telfer....PUP players for development....(or 2016 rookies in waiting)

and the rest are gonna have to earn it.......I think Mayle & Pullard both have a decent chance too...(cause Carder and Benji just aint cutting the mustard).......

  • Pullard is in - Carder doesn't seem to have much instinct for the game - and Pullard

    has instinct bigtime.

  • My question would be around 3rd NT...

Shelton, Phil and ??? May be enough to keep Kitchen around. Plus Pet mentioned hopes for him in one of the Pressers. Hughes is the other reasonable alternative, but I get the feeling Pet likes him as one of his "DEs".

If the above is true, then the logjam will be at DE.

Starks, Winn, D. Bryant, A. Bryant, Hughes, Cooper, Barnett, McDaniel, Meder, Topou

Maybe we keep 5 of them on the active... plus one PS...

Last four look like auto-cuts, but none of the first six make it to the PS.

I could see dealing one of the middling guys.

  • yep....caught the Kitchen mention the other day too....def made me think....cause I had Hughes as playing end, but rotating inside as the 3rd NT alternative....

I agree...throw the last 4 out(or PS, wherever)....and we can assume AB spends less time at DE and more time at OLB.....

Maybe leaving room for a 6-7 man rotation?? (plus AB)......My assumed locks are Hughes, Shelton, Taylor, Starks, Cooper

Leaving Kitchen, Winn, D. Bryant, Barnett, McDaniel and the rest all fighting for 1or 2 slots.....love it

Out of the last group. my vote is 100% to keeping Winn......

  • Love my Billy, but loved the leaner 2013 version even more...

Hard for me to pencil AB in at OLB just yet... a transitioning DE to a spot with one opening and a draft pick in waiting. Of course there are others there he should surpass if the experiment is successful at all... and he'd carry the dual position advantage...

    Will be interesting...

Yep...at some point he has to be counted as line or olb....wonder if the position coaches barter for that slot....you know, I need another Lbr cause he's really D line.....then.... NO, I need another de cause hes Lbr....hmmm

  • so a few hold overs from last season have already dropped....practice squad players Keith Pough LB and Calvin Barnett DL were just cut.....(a good sign, I think, unless your Pough or Barnett)

and Nick McDonald OL is gone as of today......(what took them so long)(ha!)

  • Pough was specifically mentioned by Farmer pre-draft as someone who could make the step up. So I guess if we're cutting him we have better players...?

  • it looks like they've placed an injury designation on Pough so, if he should clear waivers, we have the option to keep him by placing him on the injury list.....

It appears we've already used the 2 spots created when we cut these guys, by picking up another LB named Mike Reilly and another OL named Eric Olsen.....

  • Yep, saw that. Roster churning, looking for special players cut by other teams, as happens every year.

  • Paul Browning - WR

    Darius Jennings - WR

    Kevin Cone - WR

    Travis Benjamin - WR

    Rodney Smith - WR

    Tyler Loos - LT

    Darrian Miller - LG

    Vinston Painter - LG

    Karim Barton - RG

    Andrew McDonald - RT

    Jim Dray - TE

    EJ Bibbs - TE

    Kevin Haplea - TE

    Connor Shaw- QB

    Glenn Winson - RB

    Shaun Draughn - RB

    Luke Lundy - RB

    Jamie Meder - DE

    Dylan Winn - DE

    Jaccobi McDaniel - NT

    Ishmaaily Kitchen - NT

    Darius Eubanks - ILB/FS

    Rodman Noel - ILB

    Mike Reilly - OLB

    Brandon Stephens - CB

    Robert Nelson - CB

    Micah Pellerin - SS

    Landon Feichter- SS

    Kendall James - CB

    Charley Hughlett - LS

    Travis Coons - P

    Tank Carder - ILB

    Johnson Bademosi - SS

    De'Ante Saunders - CB

Bolded players are practice squad eligible

I think that gets us to 53 - not counting Ifo, Pough and Gordon on the exempt/IR list.

  • I don't see them cutting Benjamin.......who are they gonna have returning punts? Duke?

He would be a great option.....other possibilities could be Gilbert, Gabriel or Gaines.....our own little 3G network

    Gilbert, Gabriel, Moore, Duke.

This team is not lacking in speed and shiftiness.

  • I agree.....I just do not see what they see in Benjiman......I figured he'd be cut this year for sure, but the Browns really seem to be talking him up so far......

Bottom line....I see too much talent on this team to keep a one trick pony....if he earns a WR spot, then so be it.....but I think cutting a good player elsewhere, to keep an average kick returner is a luxury we can not afford.....

Bring me a returner like Cribbs or Hester and we can talk......
