Or he improved simply because he sobered up and started trying.....

Are you suggesting he gave the same effort this year as last?......if so, thats not very objective.....

Its a little weird that you are crediting "coaching" with his improvement, while driving the train to fire em all......

I don't think you know what objectively means.

And I've never said fire them all. I've said Fire Pettine and O'Neil, because they are bad coaches.

    @tour2ma said:

That would be a mistake. Before he clears his locker JM should have to propose a Self Improvement Plan for management approval.

And, unlike TC's narrative, Pet's agreement as well with concerns registered noted from the vetting process.

I think you can draw the line there if your purpose is to deny Pet for any credit for anything good occurring under him. I've no doubt Flip has added value to the effort... as has O'Connell.

However, I do not see denying Pet's role in setting the stage either in 2014, before Flip arrived, or in 2015, when Pet spent time in the QB room with Flip and Kevin.

The one variable that changed was the OC and QB coach. I'm just playing the game you were trying to play, and not attributing anything to anyone that there isn't evidence of.

The facts are that Manziel was awful last year, now he looks better. McCown has been awful almost his entire career, now he looks like he could be a borderline starter for some franchises. And the only changes were adding Flip and O'Connell for the explicit reason of progressing the quarterback.

Anything else past that is just conjecture. We have no way of knowing how much influence Pet has in the QB room, if any at all. But if we're being objective, the facts are that we added Flip and O'Connell, and that Manziel and McCown are having the best seasons of their careers.

For the love of all that's holy: Manziel is not remotely good.

He does not "look better" - he was simply given a longer audition. And he's shown why he's not a starter.

There are not praises to go 'round.. there's blame. Because he sucks. And that's being objective.

Hint: If you actually think he doesn't suck, you get to explain why the linked article doesn't matter.... or your post is fanboi BS.

  • maybe it'd be an accordion concert and you'd be the headliner. this time they aim for the stage.

oh wait! there is no such thing as accordion concerts.......... forgot.

I think he sucks just as much as a rookie should suck only 5 full games into their career.

I didn't say he doesn't suck. I said he looks better, because that is objectively true.

That article has been debated on here many times. It was an awful performance and it brought forth many concerns.

However, if you look at the All-22 from the Steelers game, you'd find that he had a better grasp of the offense and had fixed some of the mistakes that were shown in the linked article. It wasn't a perfect performance against Pittsburgh either, but it was better than against Cincinnati. He was buying into the offense, hitting open receivers, and not pressing for portions of the game - exactly what you'd expect from someone who is learning.

I don't want to proclaim him a franchise savior. All I want to see is if his next performance is better than his last.

We've seen what Johnny Manziel the drunk can do - that was 2015. I want to see what this supposed "new" Manziel is about.

  • Looks like The Onion is really hitting the Browns organization...

Mike Pettine Worried Bengals Gave Rest Of League Blueprint To Beat Browns

CLEVELAND—Following a 37-3 loss that saw his team outperformed in nearly every phase of the game, Cleveland head coach Mike Pettine admitted his growing concern Wednesday that the Cincinnati Bengals may have given the rest of the league the blueprint for beating the Browns. "You know, Cincinnati completely shut down our offense and ran all over our defense, and now I’m worried that other teams are going to be able to study exactly how they did it," Pettine told reporters, adding that he fears Sunday’s loss may have exposed some of the key weaknesses of his 2-10 team. "The Bengals totally figured us out. Any team that wants to know how to establish a passing rhythm against us or get to our quarterback will be able to figure it out just by watching the game tape from last week. It’s definitely a big problem moving forward." Pettine went on to express some confidence that even if the Browns’ upcoming opponents attempt to recreate the Bengals’ game plan, most teams will hopefully lack the personnel to slow down their 32nd-ranked run game.

I think this shows just how clueless he apparently is.

Unstated is: "and we are too dumb to make adjustments to anything the opponent may do".

And besides....it couldn't be satire.....because it wasn't printed in Pink
