    But my worry is that we draft the future, then ride the hot hand, which pisses off the future, so we trade the future thinking that we can ride the hot hand to the SB, then the hot hand cools and we're stuck without a QB...again.

    Maybe a bit.

    The upside potential is great and I have been quietly voicing my support for RG3 for more than a few seasons. Do I like RG3 as a prospect more than Wentz? I'm not sure.

    I wonder if Sashi thinks that we can trade back from #2 to somewhere in the early teens and still conceivably nab Wentz, and RG3 is more of a hedging of his bets than anything else. Granted, I don't really see who would trade up, nor what they would trade up for, but I wonder if that scenario has been thrown out.

    Time to come up with another far fetched scenario...

  • I'm listening to the radio show, and what they're saying is that it appears our management and coaches are not high on McCown, and he might be let go. McCown either has no guaranteed money, or very little (they didn't know), and cutting him wouldn't hurt our team financially. Honestly, this is something I never even considered given that McCown did pretty well last year, and especially well when you consider the lack of offensive talent we had at WR.

    I'm not sure how I feel about this. I think it's safe to say our OL will take a step backwards next year, and do you really want an old QB playing behind a leaky line? If you're McCown, do YOU really want to play that way? Our franchise is obviously making a pretty drastic "youth movement" right now, and given that philosophy, it kind of makes sense that McCown will be let go. What I see happening is us taking a QB at #2, AND signing RG III. I believe Hue Jackson will want the rookie to start, with RG III backing him up.

    they didn't look at sportrac? McCown only has $1 million guaranteed this year.

    I don't think that the trade down scenario is thrown out at all. I think it may be enhanced. So say the Browns get RG. To me, that sends a signal that they may not in fact be taking a QB at #2.....but other teams may want to climb up there and be the first to grab one of those QBs. Dallas maybe, Rams, 49ers.

    Other than Cowboys I am not sure what we could get from them.....but the Redskins with RG kinda set the market bar, no? Three first round picks?

    If draft picks are the gold standard by which our analytics guys play....then that could be a treasure trove for them.

    Totally agree....... No matter who we sign and/or draft. Josh had better be on the team.

    I should have said "thrown around", not "thrown out". An RG3 signing, to me, points to us trying to move back and gain some picks, while still getting one of the top two QB's.

    While a trade-down could be exciting, the biggest concern some of us have is RG3 has been more fragile than agile to be the exclusive plan. Not only that, but once he had to be a pocket passer - it was overwhelming enough to the extent Colt McCoy outperformed him in 2014 and Kirk Cousins outperformed him in 2015. Unfortunately, I have yet to read Hue saying he wants to keep McCown even at the bargain prices he's been willing to play for here. I'm hoping that changes because I think it would keep us open to all different scenarios.

    There's a lot of teams beside Denver, SF and Dallas that need QBs especially if we count the teams with older QBs like Arizona, NE, New Orleans, and San Diego. Pittsburgh's QB was drafted the same year as Rivers and we can also add the Giants (w/ Eli) to that. I wouldn't be surprised if Jerry Jones trades up with TN especially if he wants to be us or anyone else to the pick of the litter at QB. Now that first QB are more affordable than ever, what's to stop Elway from trying to trade with TN for the first pick overall? If Elway or Jerry does move up to take Hue's perceived pick of the litter at QB at #1 overall - this is one scenario where I could see us trading back unless Hue has his first 2 QBs rated dead even.

    It'll be interesting - that's for sure.

    Right....anything is possible. But the Tits have said they will want a King's Ransom to trade out of their pick....and with the history of RGIII in Washington, perhaps at best the other teams will want to give up at most a Squire's ransom.

    The Browns will only trade down if they have Goff and Wentz rated equally, and no farther than the Cowboys #4. BTW, Jerrah already has said he's not trading up, if you want to believe him. Going any lower than that and the Browns miss out on your fave Bosa, if they're not taking a QB, which I seriously doubt. The only QB needy team that might have a realistic chance to jump the Browns is the 49ers, and if they still have Kap, it ain't happening.

    LOL- I saw on Pro Football Focus Chris Collinsworth has the Rams trading up to #1, to make a big splash in LA. It would take an RG III type deal to get the Titans to drop that far. & why should the Rams do something dumb like that- they were the beneficiary of the RG III deal, and Lynch should be sitting there for them. Denver moving up to #1\#2 overall? No way in hell. The Titties\Browns would probably start by asking for Von Miller, TJ Ward, their first round pick, and a couple more.

    @the-gipper said:

    It was just McCown's $1 million guaranteed money I posted. If we keep him around it goes up, but not hatefully so. $3.6 million with a $750k roster bonus.

    Maybe. But there's no guarantee of that. And considering the cream of this crop is rated higher than either of the last two years, and we have pick of the litter, it wouldn't be a very prudent move.

  • @tour2ma said:

    Why?

    Because, like I said...it is a veteran presence. A fairly steady hand to turn to if things go wrong...or if someone is hurt.

    You go into the season with the fragile RGIII...and he is backed up only by untested Shaw/Davis/rookie QB? Sure, it can be done....but wouldn't it be better to have McCown to turn to. RG isn't that old or experienced. Even if he is playing he could use his backup/player coach there next to him. Sure, he would have an OC and a QB coach and an HC etc......but this would help him, help the rookie, help the team.

    How much is McCown costing? Not that much I don't think.

    @the-gipper said:

    Because, like I said...it is a veteran presence.

    Circular logic is not very compelling.

    As for keeping anything going... First, you have to have something going. We won't... not for a couple years anyway. Then we will have use of a quality back-up, veteran or not, to step in and lead a win or two, if the starter has to sit a couple weeks.
