RG3 set to be a Brown ?

Locked The Browns Board

  • The following QBs DID make it to the SB with the team that drafted them:

    Bart Starr

    Joe Namath

    Craig Morton #

    Bob Griese

    Terry Bradshaw

    Ken Stabler

    Vince Ferragamo

    Joe Montana

    Ken Anderson

    David Woodley

    Dan Marino

    Jim McMahon

    Tony Eason

    Phil Simms

    Boomer Esiason

    Jeff Hostetler

    Mark Rypien

    Jim Kelly #

    Troy Aikman

    Neil O'Donnell

    Drew Bledsoe

    Steve McNair

    Tom Brady

    Donovan McNabb

    Peyton Manning #

    Rex Grossman

    Ben Roethlisberger

    Aaron Rodgers

    Joe Flacco

    Colin Kaepernick

    Russell Wilson

    Cam Newton

Thus, 32 QBs went to the Super Bowl with their original team, 27 went with a subsequent team. So it is almost even in this regard.

    # see previous post

Bottom line: don't overlook the "secondary market" when getting a Super Starting QB is concerned.

as couch replied above, why risk anything when you have the #2 pick with 2 qbs that have been rated higher than any QB that has come out in the last 2 yrs?

make the pick. if the guy busts then we will all know once and for all that god hates the browns (or bernie sold his soul to the devil and this is his payback).

Because, to quote Sonny Weaver "I think they are busts".

And you're about the only one...

I was responding to someone mentioning that next year the quarterback crop might be better. Unless we go 0 and 16 we won't be able to get that top guy anyway.

To your point how many of those quarterbacks were failures on their original team or traded quickly?

    WSS

I actually documented this a few weeks back. But here are a few examples of Super Bowl starting QBs being on their 2d, maybe third team. Its not that all these guys were "failures" with their first team....but that first team decided for one reason or another not to keep them around:

    Len Dawson....original team: Steelers

    Darryl Lamonica: Original team: Chargers

    Earl Morrall: 49ers

    Joe Kapp: (Canada)

    Johnny Unitas: Steelers

Craig Morton: made SB with Cowboys that drafted him...but also later with Broncos

    Billy Kilmer: 49ers

Fran Tarkenton (started with Vikings....went to Giants, then back to Vikings)

    Ron Jaworski: Rams

    Jim Plunkett: Patriots

    Joe Theisman: Dolphins

    Doug Williams: Bucs

    Steve Young: Bucs

    Chris Chandler: Colts

    Brett Favre: Falcons

    Stan Humprhies: Redskins

    Trent Dilfer: Bucs

    Kerry Collins: Panthers

    Brad Johnson: Vikings

    Rich Gannon: Vikings

    Matt Hasselback: Packers

    Drew Brees: Chargers

Kurt Warner Rams then Giants then Cardinals.

    even Peyton Manning: Colts

even sorta Jim Kelly (drafted by Bills, but played with USFL)

I will say this though: For the past 6 Super Bowls, the starting QBs were drafted by those teams.

And both Elway (Colts) and Eli Manning (Chargers) did not make it with the team that drafted them...but were traded on draft day or shortly thereafter.

And so that list isn't really relevant to what I wanted to know. Reason being? Kaepernick, Pryor and RG3 are faield quarterbacks hoping for a resurrection of their careers.

So how often does that happen? Carson Palmer?

  • Cleveland is expected to reach agreement with former Redskins' QB Robert Griffin III today, per team source. Griffin III to be a Brown.

Let me go ahead and post what others will say ahead of time:

  • Good pick up. Nothing but ceiling with no risk or huge financial commitment.

I think it depends on whether or not we draft a QB at 2 personally

So, you can have Bo Callahan, I will take Vontae Mack.

Paraphrased. Sonny said "I think he's a bust" I said "I think they are busts".

What's more fun is that I take this stance, then watch you guys get into a dither as if I were LeBron James making a tweet.

Sure it is relevent to what you wanted to know. You wanted to know if a guy who was given up on by a prior team can resurrect his career and have success. Almost all those SB QBs that I listed had that exact thing happen to them.

Whatever. I could care less about the bullshit. Maybe somebody else can answer the question?

  • RG gets 2 years, 15$ million with about 6$ million guaranteed.

I think they want him to compete to start, and will re-sign him this offseason if he succeeds. They have the cap room to add their franchise QB.

I'd say this lessens the chance they take Goff or Wentz, but I wouldn't rule them out, or rule out a 4th rounder, or later.

    But Schefty disagrees with me:

Signing RGIII not expected to have any impact on what Cleveland does in draft. A QB still expected to be the pick.

  • This 2-year deal for @RGIII can be worth up to $22M. Which underscores what we knew: Josh McCown will be playing for another team in 2016

  • Since it's a done deal, Thread Closed guys- hit the new one with your comments.
