I want us to make the position better.

    Manziel made it worse.

Let's just say I'm not thrilled at the prospect. He was rookie of the year. If Hue brings him in- I'll live with it. You'll also have to. Or you think Hue is an idiot too?

I should have said "thrown around", not "thrown out". An RG3 signing, to me, points to us trying to move back and gain some picks, while still getting one of the top two QB's.

Or, it could mean they will want to try to go with RG for a year or two.....get a mid rounder this year....and wait for another year when the QB crop is better.

as couch replied above, why risk anything when you have the #2 pick with 2 qbs that have been rated higher than any QB that has come out in the last 2 yrs?

make the pick. if the guy busts then we will all know once and for all that god hates the browns (or bernie sold his soul to the devil and this is his payback).

  • Report: Teams expect Browns to sign RG3

    Mar 23 2016, 8:05 AMDavid P. Woods

It appears increasingly likely that Robert Griffin III will soon be a member of the Cleveland Browns.

A day after ESPN's Adam Schefter said the Browns are "definitely interested" in signing the former Washington Redskins passer, FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reported Wednesday that the prevailing feeling among NFL coaches and executives is that Griffin and the Browns will eventually reach a deal.

The Browns are said to be doing due diligence and digging deep into Griffin's eventful time with the Redskins to determine if he's a personality fit for new head coach Hue Jackson.

Jackson worked alongside Redskins head coach Jay Gruden with the Cincinnati Bengals, so it's likely the Browns will be able to use that connection to get the complete story of why Griffin's time in the nation's capital turned sour.

If the Browns are convinced there's nothing to Griffin's nature that makes it likely his time in Cleveland would end the same way, a deal could be struck.

50% of Super Bowl starting QBs did not go their with the team that drafted them. They went with a subsequent team.

    Food for thought.

I was responding to someone mentioning that next year the quarterback crop might be better. Unless we go 0 and 16 we won't be able to get that top guy anyway.

To your point how many of those quarterbacks were failures on their original team or traded quickly?

    WSS

  • Not my first choice of free agents but what choices do we realistically have. We keep talking about who we want but who wants to come here is the real question and what do we have to choose from. I think Hue is talking to the higher ups and trying to get the best he can for the 53 man and there just is not as many options as we the fans would like there to be.

I actually documented this a few weeks back. But here are a few examples of Super Bowl starting QBs being on their 2d, maybe third team. Its not that all these guys were "failures" with their first team....but that first team decided for one reason or another not to keep them around:

    Len Dawson....original team: Steelers

    Darryl Lamonica: Original team: Chargers

    Earl Morrall: 49ers

    Joe Kapp: (Canada)

    Johnny Unitas: Steelers

Craig Morton: made SB with Cowboys that drafted him...but also later with Broncos

    Billy Kilmer: 49ers

Fran Tarkenton (started with Vikings....went to Giants, then back to Vikings)

    Ron Jaworski: Rams

    Jim Plunkett: Patriots

    Joe Theisman: Dolphins

    Doug Williams: Bucs

    Steve Young: Bucs

    Chris Chandler: Colts

    Brett Favre: Falcons

    Stan Humprhies: Redskins

    Trent Dilfer: Bucs

    Kerry Collins: Panthers

    Brad Johnson: Vikings

    Rich Gannon: Vikings

    Matt Hasselback: Packers

    Drew Brees: Chargers

Kurt Warner Rams then Giants then Cardinals.

    even Peyton Manning: Colts

even sorta Jim Kelly (drafted by Bills, but played with USFL)

I will say this though: For the past 6 Super Bowls, the starting QBs were drafted by those teams.

And both Elway (Colts) and Eli Manning (Chargers) did not make it with the team that drafted them...but were traded on draft day or shortly thereafter.

  • The following QBs DID make it to the SB with the team that drafted them:

    Bart Starr

    Joe Namath

    Craig Morton #

    Bob Griese

    Terry Bradshaw

    Ken Stabler

    Vince Ferragamo

    Joe Montana

    Ken Anderson

    David Woodley

    Dan Marino

    Jim McMahon

    Tony Eason

    Phil Simms

    Boomer Esiason

    Jeff Hostetler

    Mark Rypien

    Jim Kelly #

    Troy Aikman

    Neil O'Donnell

    Drew Bledsoe

    Steve McNair

    Tom Brady

    Donovan McNabb

    Peyton Manning #

    Rex Grossman

    Ben Roethlisberger

    Aaron Rodgers

    Joe Flacco

    Colin Kaepernick

    Russell Wilson

    Cam Newton

Thus, 32 QBs went to the Super Bowl with their original team, 27 went with a subsequent team. So it is almost even in this regard.

    # see previous post

Bottom line: don't overlook the "secondary market" when getting a Super Starting QB is concerned.

And so that list isn't really relevant to what I wanted to know. Reason being? Kaepernick, Pryor and RG3 are faield quarterbacks hoping for a resurrection of their careers.

So how often does that happen? Carson Palmer?
