Don't be intimidated. Both Steeler and Bengals boards generate enemy related topics.

The bungles have an AFCN sub forum called "AFC North Chatter".

Perhaps an idea for this board for those like you that want to maintain their safe space.

I actually enjoy talking about the other AFC North teams, and with their fans as long as it is a honest-to-dog convo, not a troll session.

  • A really interesting article comparing Rudolph, Mayflower, Arnold, etc. as it pertains to 3rd down efficiency....from 3rd and short to 3rd and long.

Holy Toledo! Rudolph is a TD machine on 3rd down!...28!!!

Then your bubble bursts when you scroll down and see freakin Landry Jones blowing everyone away at 41.

  • Well....again, that is the Big 12 for you.   Lots and lots of QBs come out of there with gaudy statistics, yet none of them have had much success in the pros.

So, it is a concern for both the Beaver and the brickbuilding  caribou.....as to whether or not either of them can have success in the pros.   Rudolph may just be a younger Landry.  Mayfield may become a short version of Andy Dalton.

Who the hell knows at this point.

  • I hope he gets arrested for gay rape.

  • @runyon27 said:

Same things were said about Landry Jones and how Dobbs would develop blah blah blah. Rudolph will never be more than a fringe starter. I do not fear Mason Rudolph, in fact I hope you think he is the future, he is pedestrian.

No, they were not. I don't know how I feel about Rudolph. I certainly didn't believe we were going to draft a qb. However the steelers had a first round grade on him. They sure as hell didn't with Dobbs or Jones and no one, I repeat no one talked about Dobbs or Jones like they have talked about Rudolph.

If they had a 1st round grade on him why did they wait until the 3rd round to draft him? Typically most teams have around 15-20 players that have a 1st round grade. So I dont believe, no matter what they say, that they had a 1st round grade on him. I heard many Steelers fans high on Dobbs last year, that is until they saw him take the field in the pre-season. He was dreadful. Rudolph is the better talent coming out of college of the 3, but I heard many a Steelers fan high on Dobbs and he being the potential heir apparent. I think of a Rudolph as a better Landry.

Yes, sort of, but he cleaned it up after he was drafted.

There was some incident like pot, that made him drop into the 3rd round.

What jumps at me is how accurate Mayfield is. He really is a move the chains QB.

Rosens are on par with Allen. Kinda funny when the Allen haters loved Rosen because he was so much better.

The pressure really turned up on Ben and Tomlin now.

Super Bowl win this season or everything short of that is just failure.

Bens partially right. Its win now at all costs and quite frankly, Landry Jones played well when Ben was out last season.

I've never really went along with the consensus among steeler fans that Landry Jones sucks.

He has performed as a good back-up should.

Rudolph wasn't the only player the Steelers had a first round grade on. They waited till the third because they were obviously drafting based on immediate need.

When the 3rd came they  traded up to get him.

I don't know about other teams, but many "experts" had a first round early second round grade on him. This was also a rich QB class.

Third isn't what I would call a 'late round'.   The article you linked yourself pretty much shows that.

  • Rumors are, this kid is gay. Do not have a  problem with that, props to Steelers for giving him this opportunity and not being overly worried about the locker room shake out or public perception.

    That's vey true.

Using that link I was just emphasizing that all good QB's are not 1st rounders..

    I suppose I coulda Googled "successful 2nd/3rd round qb's".

I did that sort of thing on a  number of threads.  And, yes, there have been a number of successful 2d/3rd round QBs.   But, statistically....a QB does have a much better chance of being successful if he is taken in round one.

This really goes for all positions.   See this:   The number of HOFers taken in round one is more than double that of players taken in any other round. (and note on this list...that about half of the second rounders here would have been in the Top 32...so first rounders today):

Gip did that. For every 3rd round Joe Montana, there's 5 Charlie Frye's and Colt McCoy's. For every 6th round Tom Brady there's 20 Spergon Wynn's. The stats say the higher you pick a QB, the better your odds, and even first round isn't a sure thing.

I think you'll find that in most positions, the percentage of hits and misses.
