I just don't see now a no knock raid for no legit reason is valid - and breakdown down a door, (or picking lock?) ....
shooting someone dead because they have a gun in their hand? That is criminal with no justification.
What to they EXPECT in a no knock raid?
1. Minnesota - Castle Doctrine.
https://www.gunlaws101.com/state/law/minnesota/castle-doctrine
2. Yelling "police by several policemen? sounds like loud terrifying noise, I think, to people just waking up at night.
Have to wonder what "CLEAR", "POLICE".... "GET ON THE FLOOR", "HE'S GOT A GUN", "HANDS", "SEARCH WARRANT"...etc etc, all at the same time sounds like to someone who was asleep a moment before.
3. Amir was NOT the person they were after. There was no excuse for a no knock raid. No drug house, etc - where the bad people KNOW it's the police.
4. The officer who shot made a fatal mistake, should be tried and prosecuted. Years ago, an elderly neighbor had police knocking on his door, he answered it with his pistol in his hand. A storm incident caused their alarm to go off - the Sheriff and our neighbor had a nice talk, laughed about how it happened, everything was fine.
JBlu is correct - just having a gun is ZERO justification for being shot. And yes, he did NOT point the gun at anyone, and he had his finger OFF the trigger.
Police have the legal responsibility to do things properly. If Amir had pointed the gun at an officer, surely it would show on the film.
All the police had to do, was simply pound on the door, while one officer in charge yells "POLICE" and "SEARCH WARRANT"... then wait til they answer the door. And enter, having been identified, and go in and get whoever they were going to arrest.
or, station police there in the early hours of the morning, and get the person(s) when they come out the door.
but no knock exploding into a house- not for a very, very serious reason. Like I posted, what if they had the wrong house completely?
Would the shooting be described by anyone as "justified" ???
