    I can't stand that qunt!

  • Late to the party, watched the game but working this weekend. Very encouraged with Shedeur's debut, he showed command of the offense and ability to read (albeit vanilla) defenses. Maintained accuracy after a shaky start and made some throws I've never seen a Browns rookie make since '99. Didn't panic against Panther's starting defense like DTR so let's hope we have something long term here. A good starting QB on a 5th round salary would make this team superb.

The team as a whole looked quite good, Graham and Schlesinger are studs and I hope Floreia makes the team despite his hamstring injury.

Yeah, nice catch.  But of the midget receivers I was more impressed with that Gage guy, Larvadain #84.  He did the better job with the punts.

It's kinda' sad that the media is what it has become.  Click bait and hype.  It's a competition.  Everyone has to overblow everything.  They have to get people to read THEIR stuff....and to get people to quote THEM and THEIR thoughts.  Now a coach can tell his team to 'block out the noise' all he wants...but he can't take their phones away from them.  They're all walking around with the 'noise' in their pockets.

Hopefully Sanders stays grounded.  He did some good things out there.  But he's got plenty to work on.  And Gabriel is going to get his shots at staying ahead of him on the depth chart.

I'm glad that the team had some success in their first pre season game.  But it IS just pre season.  And they were playing the backups for a team who's starters weren't that good last year.

Larvadain was better on punts, I think Floreia muffed his. I hated the Gabriel pick and said so here on draft day before Shedeur was drafted. Personally I think he's a career back up but I guess they have to go through the motions.

There's the 1st World According to Wundumson called Flugel of the season; and I'm sticking to it...

It was a fun game to watch both sides of the ball and ST kickoffs. A lot of highly motivated and contagious play out there. I think this will be a fun season to watch regardless of the final record. The truth will lie in how this FO makes its cuts to the final 53. If Ford and Strong are still on the team, then Berry & Depo should be cut.

Not sure what Depo has to do with cuts.  Any evidence he does?

As to Ford and Strong, I don't disagree.  Strong can be replaced by several of the guys who showed up on Friday night.

The thing Ford has going for him is experience.  Coaches place a lot of value in that, maybe too much. I don't think experience at running back means that much.  At least as much as a lot of other positions. Any rookie can take the hand off and run to the planned blocking hole.  If it isn't there, do your best.  I don't know that experience helps out a whole lot there.  Shoot, it might be the one skill position that requires the least experience.

I wouldn't be shocked if we cut or traded Ford.  He is just an average back. Is he a player we will look to extend?  I don't think so.  At least from an initial look, we have 3 other rookie running backs that can fill his shoes.  The next 2-3 weeks might change my mind.

I have long said that unless you have one of the special ones, backs are a dime a dozen. The difference is opportunity. Give someone else the opportunity and we could easily replace what Ford brings.

I think that was the plan.  He was to be Draft Pick '26's backup.  Unless he turned out to be great.  They had Gabriel as the #2 QB in the draft.  In the 5th round they adjusted their plan.

Or maybe the draft changed their plan.  I don't think we ever thought Sanders would still be there in round 5. At that point he was worth any of the extra baggage, perceived or real.  The 5th round is at that point where it is pretty easy to wash your hands and cut a player.

Some people are going to moan about cutting any drafted player but cutting a 5th rounder isn't going to cause any real backlash.

The flip side to this is a whole lot of people are going to be pissed if anybody else gets any kind of rep at QB.  Sanders looked good, but it's way early to sell out and go all in.

Two peas in a pod. YOu don't think Mr. Analytics has anything to do with player selection? Go watch the movie Moneyball then. That was him and players selected & kept seemed to be quite a bit of it.

Racism don't have a damn thing to do with it.. She's a hack reporter and a mouthpiece for the Browns... Her and Tony Grossi are an embarrassment... They have been such since the 80's... Bill Livingston and Bob Kravitz were just as bad in the late 70's through a better part of the 80's.. When they were writers for The Plain Dealer.. They were never the quality of someone like Rick Tellander (Chicago Tribune) or Frank DeFord (Washington Post) or even Bob Ryan (Boston Globe) who could be annoying at times... For me... The best Sportswriters in Cleveland were Bob August, Joe Menzer(Cavs) And the late great Hal Lebovitz.. All three of them had class.. And weren't wrapped into the latest sound bites or carried an agenda... They reported the facts regardless of whatever party affiliation they may have had.. Most of the Cleveland Media for the last 30 years have been a bunch of germs...

“This Sanders story has just turned into a huger joke. The media is just not capable of an objective intelligent analysis. He did a few things pretty well and a few things not so well. Didn’t do bad and was ok overall. Some of the The headlines are a joke,” Banner posted on X.  -  Joe Banner

No disagreement.  I don't think I ever stated Sanders was some sort of lock.

OK-then google "Does Depodesta help draft Browns football players?". You'll find an article where it documents his involvement with Berry and Stafanski in selecting the 2020 draft. I can't get my copy and paste working at the moment, so you'll have to find it. It's very clear he does.

It was an ok debut by Sanders. Some good and some bad, but there wasn’t a whole lot of completely awful. No Ints and only 1 sack.

I was at Blossom last night taking in a concert, so I couldn’t watch the game.

I just finished watching the replay on NFL Network, and I agree with you.

Let’s not overreact, we’re Browns fans and we’ve seen this before in preseason.

Good idea CD. 1 week at a time. The regular season is a whole different ball game - where opponents will be prepared with what they want to exploit as well as knowing the Browns offensive tendencies.

I don't know if many of our fans are old enough to remember the preseason heroics of Eric Zeier; but when the Browns had to use him in the regular season...  He didn't look anything like the QB he was exciting people with his preseason performances.

Here's his 1st 2 years in the NFL showing the 1st season with the Browns:

    image.png.f8286e260059c0f89c1b79da4b32529b.png

  • Somewhere in all this we need Cliff Clavin to deliver the inconvenient news.  THIS FO wants their guy (Dillon Gabriel) to succeed and we'd by lying to ourselves if they aren't going to do all they can to make sure he looks good in the pre-season.  Having said that, this is all dependent on if he's healthy enough to play. Half the the QBs here have pulled hammys?   For now, I guess we should be happy Colonel Sanders was able to serve up some finger lookin good passes here and there.

As we know, there's always going to be plenty to work on as a rookie QB especially given the reality there's 3 other QB that want to start.

  • Schwesinger (#49) lead the team in tackles.  4 solo, 2 assists.   Sanders had a 106.8 QB rating.
