  • I think the kid switched from D to offense because of ball skills and he is a bit frail to be making tackles.

His legs look like ink pens.

  • Lol, if you thought Braylon was bad w/r/t drops, you'll just LOVE Ginn...

  • He's a Niner now so the point has become moot

edit: traded for a 5th round pick

    That's what I thought he'd go for.

If you were told that you would draft a WR in the 5th round, and you’d get 36 catches for 460 yards a season, you’d be ecstatic.

  • And if I drafted him in the 1st rd, I would be looking for work.

  • Damn we missed out, that would have been a great pick up for a 5th

  • And if I drafted him in the 1st rd, I would be looking for work.

And so just because he doesn't produce as well as a 1st rounder should, and he was originally picked in the 1st round, he isn’t worth a 5th rounder, even though he outproduced what you’d expect from a 5th rounder?

    Dude, you make no sense.

actually, he makes perfect sense. if i work as a buyer for my company, and i buy a high end product that turns out to suck, i would be out of a job. there was a lot of money invested in ginn and very little return on investment.

But the statement was made in response to whether he was worth a 5th round pick or not.

He clearly was a steal for the 49ers for a 5th rounder.

How does whether Parcells/Irleland making a poor pick and be worth getting fired over have anything to do with his worth as a 5th rounder?

that's a hole other discussion. i wasn't commenting on the 5th round aspect of it. a 5th round pick is decent for a guy with stats like ginn. however, we still don't know how he will produce. it's still possible that it would be the wrong choice to get rid of a 5th rounder for him. probably not though.

But that's what we were discussing. Not that the pick as a 1st rounder was bad.

  • were taking Dez Bryant theres no other way to explain why we wouldnt do this trade. Holmgren said we need to add a receiver, he said this WR class is pretty weak in depth, he backed off on character issues saying he can work with some guys, and now we dont get Ginn for a 5th.

With the 7th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, The Cleveland Browns select.....Dez Bryant

That is not going to happen.

We will take a Berry (I hope not—although I am starting to warm up to the idea), Haden (this is my pick if we stay at #7), or trade back for Odrick.

What is your definition of "clearly a steal"? In a pass oriented offense, a good QB can get a walk on 36 catches. Also, his YAC last year was a miserable 1.3yds per catch........He could've just fallen down forward and gained more YAC............Yep, Niners got a steal alright.

So I guess you are proving my point even more then. Ginn never had a “good” QB.

Plus his average per catch was 13 yards. With 36 catches, that is just over 2 catches per game. Additionally, he had some runs in there too (end arounds usually result in 0 yards or first downs, and he had quite a few yards). So lets say he averaged 3 first downs a game. That is in addition to being one of the top 10 return men in the NFL.

Everytime he got a touch, he got a first down. That’s pretty good.

  • Bout what he should have gone for. Wouldnt even come close to calling it a steal. Worth a chance, yes, depends on what you are trying to get him for. If you need a returner than this it is a good deal. If you are expecting him to be a receiver then probably wont work out very well. Ginn is not an NFL caliber reciever. You might be able to put him on the field a few downs and run the deep ball and use him as a gimmick guy but as a true reciever he is a liability. He has always been an athlete with raw receiving skills that never amounted to much. Glad we passed. I think our front office knows as far as ginn the receiver goes we can do a lot better! Now if we needed a returner then yes he would be worth a 5th but we obviously dont need that.
