I'm sure you're selling Trent short. Be prepared to be amazed at the production he puts up when healthy. McCoy, Richardson, Gordon, Little, Cameron = Playoffs this season boys! I can't wait!
...I would have loved to add Cribbs to this list as he deserves it but it appears that he's headed to AZ...
PG, that's the ONLY reason (injury) Trent gets a mulligan on last year's performance. I said before the draft taking a RB in the top 10 was stupid- Mike Lombardi happens to agree with me, perhaps the first smart thing he's come up with. Who was the better value, Trent or Doug Martin? Doug hands down. If you look at RB stats, it's littered with guys who were drafted way lower than Trent- or even undrafted, as is the case with Arian Foster, and had better statistical seasons.
Based on last year's performance, I'm not even sure Trent is as good as Ray Rice, and I can about guarantee you he's never going to be as good as Adrian Peterson- healthy or not. If you take a RB that high, that's the standard you hold him to- multiple Pro Bowl selections. TR does have excellent field vision and moves- but I hate to tell you he's not the beast you want to make him out to be. I saw him get solo tackled- and even arm tackled a bunch of times last year- and you can't attribute all that to injury. Jim Brown he ain't. Trent's major problem of getting to the elite level of running backs is he doesn't have (and never had) the breakaway gear guys like Peterson or Barry Sanders have (had). Yeah, I DID watch some of Trent's college stuff- and he got caught from behind a couple of times- those other guys NEVER did.
I love your rah-rah attitude PG, but you have to temper your enthusiasm with an occasional dose of reality. The older you get, the more objective you get.
So- Josh Cribbs is 100% gone, McCoy is probably 75-90% gone, 25% odds Phil Dawson will be back. Richardson will have to come back 50% improved to justify his draft position. That's the cold blooded reality PG, sorry if you don't agree.
The problem is Holmgren and Heckert swung for the fences with the Richardson and Weeden picks, hoping they'd land the next Emmitt Smith and Dan Marino- they knew it was win now, or else. They might just have hit a pop fly to right field instead.
