That running game is more effective when Johnny plays....Interesting, hunh? The Johnny haters won't like to hear this, but I don't think it's just coincidence. That kid MAKES things happen!
Mike
You and mud are getting too damned optimistic. LOL!

You and mud are getting too damned optimistic. LOL!

Hahaha.....I can fix that.....see below....

Yeah like Ex-QB's Staubach and Tarkenton.

But seriously he stood in nearly every single snap (other than the quick hitters) going through his progressions. Some QB's have that internal clock then go off and throw the ball away. But some have that same clock go off and look for play extension while still looking for receivers. That is what we have in JM. At some point he will add the "throwaway" to his repertoire as the 3rd and last option. That day is not far off in my opinion. When JM starts beating a bad play into his head with his tablet, it usually sticks.
He definitely has improved.....but, to balance all the enthusiasm......his best game is still slightly "below" McCowns average for the year.....and we ALL know what so many have said about him , right?
So....with McCown, what is known as "average" and "13 year back up quality".....is consider "great"(by some) when Johnny does it...
I gotta say there were some very very scary runs too......in fact, twice(2 times) he ran 30 freaking yards the wrong way.....and almost got crushed both times...plus also had a very near safety.....so, he really really needs to play smarter and realize his feet can hurt us as much as they can help....
So, he needs to avoid canceling the good runs with bad runs......as good as he runs, McCown still averages more per rush....and Id say the difference is that he ....1) dumps the ball faster and more often....and 2) avoids those backwards runs.....
BUT....I see where this is going and Im down.....I think if Johnny keeps getting better(and I believe he will), then he can be the guy...
A couple more games, on par with this, probably buys him a starting job......somewhere....and hopefully its here, if he keeps it together
-
I agree with you. I want to see Johnny starting next year, with McCown backing him up.
I want to see our franchise QB on the roster. If that turns out to be JM... great. If not, great...
In either case, if we have our future franchise QB in pocket, then it does not matter who starts.
Angry Johnny Manziel smacks himself in the head with a tablet
Yup... nothing like extending a lack of impulse control to the field to say, "I'm your future franchise."
Sorry, but that was out of control. JM was lucky he did not split his forehead open*. JM was lucky he had McC next to him to explain that there were 11 guys in white jerseys out there trying to hurt him.... he did not need to help them.
*Edit: Did just see a reply and showed he had a cap on... and the stitched logo did provide a little padding.
-
And what percentage, exactly, ARE from outside of the pocket for those?
10%.
Scrambling cannot be the only useful part of a QB's game.
You're an idiot.
You're an idiot.
Lol says the guy that basically told Johnny manziel's cock out of his mouth long enough to tell us that he's the god future of Cleveland. and for basically doing nothing but beating the equivalent of the Browns reflection in the mirror.

I don't think Manziel was in any danger of going through a concussion protocol when he smacked the tablet on his forehead as the worst outcome was at most a broken tablet but I did like the fire I saw from him on the sideline which I will take every day of the week as compared to this...^^^^^

Well, that was Hoyer gagging it up....and JFF only laughed in response to what he said.....so, why the shit for Johnny and none for Hoyers?
And Kyle Shanahan? Boy he is doing a stellar job. He has Matt Ryan so fucked up he can't think straight.

I faulted all of them last season, not just Manziel. You shouldn't be acting like that on the sidelines when your team is getting whipped 23-0.
Contrast that with what I am saying now. I liked how Manziel handled himself yesterday as a leader on the field and when I saw him on the sidelines you could tell his head was totally in the game and he was focused on winning. The abuse he gave the tablet was some good anger and showed the desire he has to improve and win. I am all for it. Tablets aren't that expensive...at least he can afford it. Out of control anger is not good. Controlled anger can be very good.

And it took him just about the same amount of time as it did with Hoyer.
PS-and even Pet thought it was a good thing JM was upset enough with himself over "a bonehead play" that he gave himself a few whacks.

Actually Mudfly, I would disagree with you. And I have the evidence to support it. Let's agree that QB rating is established as an accurate tool to assess a QB's performance. If you look at QB ratings for 2015, Manziel has the best game of the year for the Browns (by far) in Week 2 against the Titans. In fact, that was the 19th best game by a Cleveland QB EVER (with 15+ attempts). Kosar had a better game on 4 occasions in his career. Vinny did it twice, as did Couch. Quinn? McCoy? Hoyer? McCown? Never.
Over the last 6 games of the season, Manziel's two games have QB ratings both above 92 (week 10 at 95.8, last week at 92.1), and those other 4 games with those other QB's were all below 90. Lowest QBratings for the year? McCown's 63.3 in Week 6, and Austin Davis' 71.2 a week ago.
As far as QB play ON THE FIELD is concerned, the evidence is pretty clear who the best option is for the Browns. The two of three wins with Manziel underscores it as well. When you consider Manziel doesn't have a single season of games (cumulative) under center, and I would think there is plenty of room for enthusiasm. At least as far as the QB position goes.
-
The only issue is QB rating can't be used as an 'end all be all' tool. While you're at it, McCown's body of work has been over the course of more games than Manziel while Johnny starts have (coincidentally enough) aligned with playing the two teams slated to pick ahead of us in the draft.
In golf we say the ball has a great lie.

Well, a 89 qbr, and a ESPN total qbr of 57 after a few games means he doesn't totally suck-yet. Considering Barnidge and Benjamin are his only legit targets, and except for SF no running game, he's not doing too bad.
Just can the party circuit Johnny.
PS welcome to the Asylum.

Yup.. saved by the logo...
Point is that there's a whole lot of higher ground between inappropriate clowning and self-flagellation...

On the radio, Bernie Kosar defended Manziel, he joked that it just
shows genuine passion.
He said back in the day, if he could have had some big computer monitors
on the sideline, he'd have gone through about 30 of them.
and, it shows he is intense, and has the fire and wants to win.I was against
drafting JM, but the kid can play, and if he can keep it together off the field,
and keep growing as qb....
I'm all in. It hasn't been easy for Browns qb's in the past, with an oline that doesn't function
well at all, all the time Now, the oline is solid, but the offense needs a blue chip, elite star WR.
That is taller than 6'.

No, let's not....because I don't think it is all that accurate.

I think what there is room for is tempered optimism. JFF has played well against the bums of the league: Titan/49ers (The Browns really are a better team than all these). Against a good team, say, the Steelers....he got a lot of yards but few points...and scoring points is what it is all about.
But I do think the next 3 games could be very telling.

Right....not putting too much stock in this argument, because passer rating is one small part or the equation.....and picking ONE game and using that as your argument doesnt work.....hell I could pick his worst game and then debate that he's the worst ever too(cause he DID have the worst game ever for a Browns QB).....
BTW....Gerome Harrison has the Browns all time best ever rushing game for a Browns running back.....whats that tell ya....cause I can tell ya it doesnt mean he's the best Browns RB ever....
Body of work is the only way to rate a player.....and Johnnys body of work is limited and divided....
Part I was terrible.......Part II is showing promise........Part III is yet to come.....

I do believe I detect a note of, dare I say it, HOPE!
You and Tour are starting to scare me.BTW Tour-please grade out that OL. Best blocking of the year both in running game between the tackles and in QB protection. Let us know if the TE's and RB's did well with protection as well. Sure seemed all in sync.

I'm just glad we won

Ag.....Ive always had hope.....and always get excited when Johnny plays.....and pray and pray that he will succeed here.....
And....Im waiting for the day that you get to stand on the table and scream at the top of your lungs...."I TOLD YA SO"...
Because...for me.....THAT will b a great day!......
