I’ll be rooting for them in the postseason. Thank goodness Ohio has one baseball team worth a darn.

@dutch-oven said:Having an Italian like Al Pacino playing Paul Brown makes as much sense as anything you've spewed on this topic every three times a year you bring it up, I suppose.Hollywood man, they always fuck things up

We all just disagree.  No matter now, he is gone.  I see no big loss.

Interesting ?

@flugel said: Good points Nicks but it wasn't just the defense he ass puckered. There's no way I see any of that beating the Giants at the time.  They had the best LBer Corps in the NFL; and they attacked with it (Elway's still having nightmares - just a guess though).  If the Browns couldn't handle Gastineau -  what do we think they would have done to Kosar? Yeah... If's and what's don't matter now... The past is the past.. Although the Foreskins could've been had...

@mddawg said: https://x.com/sharkymark123/status/2005099174954762403?s=20 Thanks!  I didn't know whether laugh or swear in a brand new language.  Sad.  The rich get richer and nobody with the power to help the rest of us is willing to lift a finger. Roger Goodell is the biggest phoney pretend he cares about the health and safety of players and yet their inexplicably playing on Mondays, Wednesdays (if it's a Holiday or Xmas Eve), Thursdays, Fridays (if it's a holiday), Saturdays & Sundays aside from now making these guys play 17 games.  Look how many QBs are either injured, playing with injuries, concussed/post concussed. A lot of people aren't aware of what percent of the revenue the owners get from TV Monopoly.  It was 95% which exceeds home attendance by a ton.  It's a shared revenue so owners of the Jets, Browns and Raiders don't have to step up their game to get their equal shares of the profit now coming in from the other side of the Atlantic Ocean and in countries near the one in South America the US is bombing boats at.  Amigos, PLEASE stop waterskiing or fishing - Roger Goodell wants you healthy & safe so you can contribute to the TV Monopoly he has going.

@bob806 said: I'm 99.9% certain it was Kevin Mack's 1st game back after the coke bust. He gave a new definition for the "crack back" moniker lol. If you really want to get aggravated, and re-live another Browns-being-hosed moment, well...1988 Browns-Oilers I was living in Rochester, NY at the time and Bruce Smith had similar issues with Coke.  Both players were lucky they had a good support system so that drug didn't ruin them. I'll never forget when Mack trucked Greg Lloyd to the tune of Lloyd waking up to smelling salts.

I watched the 49’ers beat the snot out of the Browns in 1984. It was a clinic that Joe Montana put on in front of the Browns faithful, and I left at halftime. Final score, niners 41 & Browns 7

@claretbrown said: It was a bit surreal for me yesterday. Actually seeing the team in the flesh and seeing so many browns jerseys was great. Yesterday I realised I wasn't alone ? Hardly anyone I talk to about the nfl has any interest, or they might have fleetingly watched over the years and liked certain teams, usually patriots, 49ers, dolphins.....but no one, no one ever, has said to me 'i like the browns'. I saw a browns jersey once, a guy queuing outside a supermarket by me during lockdown.... that's how rare it is, I actually remember the time and place!!! So to see so many like minded souls yesterday was fantastic. Garrett, ward, baker, thomas, schobert, even manziel jerseys wherever I looked.  It's ashame we couldn't win but at least we were in it right to the end.  Would love to make the trip to cleveland one day ?? Those of us who grew up outside of Cleveland, in the 80s and 90s, without cable, in the pre-internet world know exactly how you felt and today how you feel.

@texasag1969 said: And with that kind of NIL money, why take a chance this year when the Browns have all that draft power when he can stay at Texas another year and maybe get another team to take him in 2027? Plus how much more will Texas fork up to keep him another year? If he plays well you can bet it will be more than $6.5 million.    PS_Wouldn't that be mirific!!? Eggs-actly Aggies!  I think a few of us were thinking Arch would stay at Texas for more than just the 2025 season when we had this discussion about 2-3 months ago.

I thought this was amusing. The thing that caught my eye is that’s a pint of Graeter’s ice cream from Cincy next to Bill.

@flugel said: I was at that playoff game.  That return was electric!  It's definitely an entrenched memory as well as Clay Matthews intercepting Jim Kelly at the goal line to secure the win!  We drove there from Rochester, NY in a very heavy snow quall that weekend.  I miss that old stadium and the fun in Flatts. The Dual in the Dirt! The 1989 Browns are my clearest and most organic early Browns memory.  Not something I was told about or read about, but something I followed, kept up with, and watched weekly thanks to my Grandma filming games and mailing to us.  Getting to watch the comeback in Houston and this game live were an absolute treat!

@ap1 said: The only thing I disagree with is your assessment of Baker's situation in Cleveland and some of the Watson dynamic. Regarding Baker, I think he hit his ceiling in Cleveland. Maybe the organization needed to surround him with different coaches. The Panthers and Rams also passed on him. Maybe he needed a couple of extra seasons of maturity. Maybe he needed salty ocean air. Maybe he needed three organizations passing on him to create a chip on his shoulder. Maybe he just needed Mike Evans. Who doesn't? 105 TDs and 15.6 yds a catch over 11 seasons. Regarding Watson, athletic QBs have been dominating college football for 150 years. It's easy to capture lightening in a bottle in college. Dabo hasn't put together anything that resembles the teams from 2015-2019. There are athletic QBs that burst onto the scene and keep DCs and defenses on their heels because of improvise and pocket escape. It doesn't happen to everyone but it happened to DW. Either the DCs figure out tendencies. Maybe a step is lost. Maybe an inability to keep his hands and penis to himself psychologically screwed him.  I think it's safe to say that some athletes feel like they own the world when they get away with every sexual advance but once the first chink appears in the armor, it all comes crumbling down. Tiger Woods dominated golf lightyears more than DW ever dominated a football field, but the same thing happened to him. I don't blame the Browns for Baker. I do blame the Browns for DW and agree with you 100%. The Browns were the fat, bald, smelly guy in ratty sweats with food stains all over his crusty white t-shirt that begged the prostitute for sex. Eventually, they offered enough money and gave the caveat of payment whether the happy ending took place or not. Thanks!  Great job with that AP1!   Watson had success in Houston leading them to playoffs twice and making 3 Pro Bowls so there was NFL film available for the Browns. It was time for Baker to go and none of his teammates spoke up for him after he was released. That said, there was a far better way to do that IMO - especially considering how long they tolerated a LT that refused to give them a professional effort.  I will say I remembered Matt Hasselbeck defending Baker that year he played through an injury to his non-throwing shoulder.  Anyway, he said he had that same injury and it was easily the worst year of his career constantly getting planted on it (by quick 260-270 lb edge rushers) with a running start. He said that'll make anyone antsy in the pocket.  What hurt most was everyone forgot the good he did prior to that especially the media and fanbase.  At the time, he said he hoped Baker wasn't going to go through the same thing he did.  Well... He did.  All that said - the rest of the country outside of Cleveland looks at that whole thing like Jimmy got exactly what he deserved.  There's a Pro Bowl LT in Tampa today...  Some teams get it - some don't ever seem to.

@nickers said: I just paired down down my service and knocked off 70 bucks off my bill.. I don't watch the Guardians since they changed names... They aren't getting any money from me... Fuck Paul Dolan... He's a scum bag rat! I didn't and still don't agree with the name change. I don't follow the ownership/FO like I do the Browns. My Dad and I didn't have much in common, but the Brownies and the Tribe. He raised me a fan out of market and I'm raising my kids as fans out of market.  I'd venture to say there aren't alot of Generation Alpha Cleveland fans outside of Cleveland. But I've got a handful in my house.

@ibleedbrown said: I’m ashamed to admit l didn’t get down and dirty watching O-line play last year. In years past l would spend hours slo-moing a game to watch blocking schemes unfold.  I have a high opinion of Bitonio, he’s definitely in the conversation for the HOF. Maybe a step back season last year.  Something was amiss with the blocking scheme last year. Pulling guards is one of the funnest things to watch in football imo, and there was less of that. Tiamat or Flugel may have better insight there. Joel Bitonio, Brownie for life has a nice ring, no matter when he decides to hang it up. Thank you IBB!  I felt the same way as you.  New OL Coach, new OC, injured LTs, and an aging Bitonio.  My background in high school football before I coached it a few years was playing RG in a wishbone.  Ironically, when I coached we ran the Delaware Wing T.  The pulling and trapping as an OG required good chemistry and continuity of adjacent line-mates.  If I'm trapping to the other side of Center - someone has to fill my vacated area immediately usually the Center which means the play-side Guard has to down block the area the Center vacates while the Tackle has to down block the area the playside Guard vacated.  This leaves the defender that lined up across from that tackle unblocked until me as the trapping Guard often ends up blindsiding this guy that never saw me coming (while he thought he had a gimme tackle for loss).  This hit by me usually took place the in the free blocking zone so I didn't have to get my head in front of him on the initial contact for it to be legal. Free blocking zone is an invisible 3 yards deep by 5 yards wide on each side of Center.  Anyway, at the beginning of my freshman year I bellied back on a trap and tripped up our QB in practice.  Needless to say, it was a teaching moment I wanted to crawl under a rock to avoid the loud/high testosterone Shakespeare. Trapping Guards have to take a lateral step aiming for where the Center's fanny was pre-snap understanding he's firing out at the snap.  It's a 100% trust you have to have there. If 1 guy does the wrong thing or misses his assignment on a trap play or even a QB bootleg/waggle pass or a power sweep using a pulling Guard - the whole play gets blown up.  Chemistry & continuity is of the utmost importance for that reason.  Last year, that wasn't often possible with the injuries to our tackles and influx of players within the new system.  Before last year, I used to get really frustrated with Wills because when he's supposed to be down blocking to the inside when they were trying to trap block/seal the area he vacated - the guy he was supposed to down block would blow up the play because he never got there.  That's lazy, unprepared and unacceptable for a veteran tackle this team kept entitling as the starter until injured.  IMO, there was too much unfolding last year with the new playbook and influx of injuries for any of us to waste time comparing what was supposed to be done vrs the actual results.  I think that had a lot to do with why we felt the way we did about it all IBB. Hope that made sense.  My wish here is the impressive number of Pro Bowl honors Bitonio earned when he was at the top of his game is enough for him to make the HOF.  His long term durability,  efficiency and reliability were a commitment to excellence we have to go all the way back to HOF OG Gene Hickerson to find an equitable comparison.

@syd said: dont worry ballpeen, Here is what I would do if i was in charge (i will use detroit as a example) they get myles and we get gibbs and next years 1 and 2nd  round draft picks and their 3rd round pick in the following years draft, and they fill have to restructure his contract Maybe, but Detroit wouldn't. I doubt Gibbs would be in play and teams aren't very keen to trade their 1st and 2nd in the same draft.  From a picks standpoint, it would look like a 1st and 3rd this year, a 2nd next year. JMO

The onside kick has always been a very low percentage, desperation play.

@ap1 said: There is an element of the 21st Century Football mindset that believes this to be an archaic form of troglodyte football, but it's more of a hybrid of the West Coast and Run 'N Shoot.  It was fun football to watch. TEs playing with their hands in the dirt. QBs playing under center, having to know how to read and entire defense and true slots that weren't afraid to go over the middle. Well said AP!  I like the philosophy of spreading the field horizontally to exploit any/all opportunities that opens to beat people vertically.  For example, overtime against Pittsburgh in 1986 - guess who beats Pittsburgh over the top for a walk-off 36 yard TD reception?  Webster Slaughter.

@flugel said: Definitely!  The other thing was upgrading their secondary in the off-season to competitive - very competitive... After what Barkley has gone through.. I honestly never thought he would play like hes playing again... Kudos to him for his efforts
